Statistics engine fixed!

Feb 23, 2008

We just fixed our statistics engine. Top Items data, as well as the Statistics pages, is now available again. The problem, like many computer programming problems, stemmed from a phenomena that is well defined by the following poem:

I don't like this machine
I think that we should sell it.
It never does just what I want,
But only what I tell it.

New Sermons Uploaded from SEYC 2008!

Feb 3, 2008

Good news! The sermons from SEYC 2008 have been uploaded. For those of you still looking for the Conway's seminar, we will post it once we receive it from SEYC. Also, we regret that Clifford Goldstein's second seminar was not recorded. We still have posted his first and third seminar. Thank you for your patience and happy listening!

Change in How We Calculate Statistics

Jan 29, 2008

Several times in the last year, we noticed very large spikes in the number of downloads on this website. We have often traced this phenomena to a single IP address (which usually means a single computer or a small group of computers in close vicinity) that appeared to be downloading the same recording over and over and over again, thousands to ten-thousands of times in a single day. However, no two spikes appear to have been from the same IP address. We haven't been able to trace the source of the problem, whether it's from buggy download managers, individuals trying to interfere with our statistics, or other phenomena. There have also been smaller spikes that we never noticed but were of a similar nature. Whatever the source of the problem may be, we deem these events to be erroneous at best, and malicious at worst.

The good news is that we have finally implemented a solution. From now on, our website will only report the number of downloads per media file, per IP address, per day. Thus, the most that any faulty computer program or malicious visitor could skew our statistics is by downloading every single media file on our website once per day. While this could still visibly affect our statistics, we believe this will yield numbers that are much closer to the intended meaning of what we report (which is the number of different people downloading each media file.)

This change is retroactive back through December 7th, 2007, which is when we launched the last major revision of this website. We will also apply this strategy to the numbers prior to this date, if we can find a reasonable way to do so.

Happy downloading!

GYC 2007: Finished Posting

Jan 17, 2008

It's taken a little while, but we are pleased to announce that ALL of the GYC 2007 recordings have been processed. We were waiting on the Jay Gallimore / Paul Ratsara seminars due to some editing complexities. Special thanks goes to Hope Media Ministries for the large part they played in recording GYC along with AudioVerse this year.

Enjoy!

Top Items Bug Fixed

Jan 11, 2008

Were you wondering why our Top Items list wasn't changing much over the last week or two? So were we. And today, we finally decided that something must be wrong, so we put on our thinking caps and went bug hunting. The good news is that it's fixed now! We apologize for this problem and for inadvertently having provided misleading numbers.

Stats Page Upgrades

Jan 11, 2008

Just FYI, we are working on an upgrade to our Statistics section. The goal is to add graphs and a world map to aid in interpreting our data, as well as splitting the section into multiple pages for quicker loading. Enjoy! Please pardon our mess, and let us know of any ideas you have.
