Hello, friends. Welcome to the Seed Pod for kids. Thank you for joining me today as we spend time with our friend Jesus. Spending time with Jesus is the best way to start your day. Let's begin our time together, praising him. The words to this hyn were written by Maltby Davenport. Ba Babcock. He was a Presbyterian minister. He was also an athlete, and he loved nature. When he was in his first church district in Lockport, New York, he would go for walks in the morning saying, I'm going out to be in my father's world. It reminded me of when we lived in Cadillac, Michigan. It was our first church district. My husband is a pastor, and right out of college, we moved to upstate Michigan. We ended up renting a house on a small cove of a lake. We love to go out with our kayaks. In the early morning when the mist was rising off the water, the water was so very still, the turtles were on the logs waiting for the morning sun to warm them up. There was a stillness, a calmness that just soaked into your bones. It was amazing. I imagine that is how Pastor Babcock felt as he wrote the words to this song. This is my Father's Rings. This is my father's strong. This is God. This week, we're only adding three more books of the Bible. Are you ready? Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations. That's it. Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations. Let's say that five times. Are you ready? Here we go. First time, say it with me. Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations. One more time. Isaiah. Jeremiah Lamentations. So who wrote the book of Isaiah? Guess who? That's pretty easy. Isaiah did. He was a prophet. And this book is divided into two sections. The first section, chapters one through 39, are all about a group of people who've turned their back on God and the judgment that follows the second section, or the last 27 chapters, focus on the hope that God brings to them in a savior and the promise of heaven that it's to come. So the first part talks about kind of the sadness and these people who've turned their back on God. But then the second part talks about the hope that they can have because of God and the Savior that he was going to send and the promise of heaven to come. It's a promise for us, boys and girls. So here we go. Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations. Let's start at the beginning. Ready. We're gonna add these three books to the ones we already know, starting with Genesis, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, judges Ruth, first and second, Samuel, first and Second Kings, first and second Chronicles. Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, song of Solomon, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations. Great job ab. Hey, boys and girls, I'm glad you're here with me as we continue learning about how God created our world and what happened on that day. But before we get started, let's bow our heads in prayer. Dear Lord, thank you so much for each boy and girl who's joining me today, who's listening and who is taking that time to spend with you. Lord, we pray that you will come into our hearts and our lives and help us to follow you and learn something today as we study from your word. In Jesus name, amen. When God first showed Adam and Eve their beautiful garden home, he carefully pointed out two very special trees. One was called the tree of life. As long as they ate of that tree, they would live forever. The other was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God warned them not to eat the fruit of that tree. If they did, they would be choosing to disobey him and to obey an enemy that wanted to hurt them and they would die. Let's look at Genesis chapter two, verses 16 and 17. Genesis chapter two verses 16 and 17. Genesis is the first book in the Bible and chapter two, that's right at the beginning of Genesis. Then we're gonna look for those little numbers. Once you find chapter two, that big number, the chapter, then we're gonna look at those little numbers for verse 16 and 17. Genesis chapter two, verses 16 and 17. Let's read that. And the Lord God commanded the man saying, of every tree of the garden, you may freely eat, but of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat for in the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die. So there was one tree in the garden that God said, do not eat of it. Hmm. That seems pretty simple, right? You don't eat of that tree. You have hundreds, if not thousands of other trees that you can eat the fruit off of. But don't eat it from that one tree. Well, we're gonna find out what Adam and Eve did and how Satan tried to trick them. You know, God had told Adam and Eve the very sad story about what had happened long ago in heaven. They knew about Satan, or his name was Lucifer before he sinned. Right? They knew that story. They had heard it. God had told them about how Lucifer and the angels had chosen to believe the lies, and then they were forced out of heaven. Lucifer's name had been changed, and now he was called Satan. They knew Satan hated God, who had made our world, and he was gonna try to spoil it, anything he could do. So he thought that if he could tempt Adam and Eve to disobey God, then he would be king of our beautiful world instead of Adam. But God told them that there was only one place where Satan could tempt them. Where do you think that was? It was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. One place Satan had access to, but nowhere else. He couldn't follow them around right behind them, tapping them on their shoulder. There was one place where they could not pick the fruit, and that was where Satan had access to them. Would there ever be any reason for them to even go near it? No. They could avoid temptation. They could stay away from that tree, and they would never have to be in contact with Satan. They could have any other kind of fruit that they needed from the other trees. They could be safe and happy forever if they chose to obey God. You know, it reminds me of a little girl named Katie and know this is not a story about me. This is a story from Uncle Arthur's bedtime stories. But I think it, it serves her point. Well, Katie was so excited because her mother had said that she could have her little friends over for dinner. And so her mother was doing a lot of baking that afternoon, and her mother said she would bake Katie a special treat for the little get together that her friends were gonna have at their house. So her mother did, and Katie had been playing outside, but she came in and she was so excited, and her mother said, Katie, your special treat is in the cupboard. Don't go near it. Don't touch it. Don't look at it. I want it to be a surprise. And so Katie was so excited, and then all of a sudden, the neighbor lady came over and the neighbor lady needed the mother to come and help her because her baby was sick and she needed mother's advice. So as mother was going out the door, she turned to Katie and she said, now Katie, do not open that covered door. It's a surprise, and I want it to stay a surprise. Don't open it. And she went out the door. Katie sat there and kind of twiddled her thumbs and looked around, what should I really, really wanna see that? Oh, what should I do? Should I obey mother or not? Oh, but I really wanna look. And finally, her curiosity got the better of her. And she got a chair from the kitchen table and she scooted it over to that kitchen cupboard. She climbed up on the chair and she opened the door and there was the prettiest little custard cake you could ever imagine. And she was so excited, and it looked so pretty, and there were strawberries on it and whipped cream. And oh, it looked amazing. And she reached out her finger and she took one little lick, and all of a sudden she felt something brush against her leg. And she quickly turned and she looked over her shoulder. She thought maybe mother was coming, but she didn't see anyone. And so quickly she closed that covered door and got down off the chair and put the chair back, and she acted like nothing had happened. Well, mother came in a little while later and she said, okay, Katie, it's almost time for your friends to be here. Why don't you go and get the special treat out of that cupboard? And Katie said, okay. She looked a little guilty, but mother didn't notice. And so she pushed that chair over again and opened the door. It's gone. It was gone. There was nothing but crumbs left on that plate. What had happened, mother came hurrying over and looked at it and said, why? What happened? And she looked at Katie and she said, Katie, did you open this cover door earlier? And Katie said, Yeah, mother, I did. I'm so sorry. Can you please, please make another one? I'm so sorry. And mother said, well, what happened to it? Did you eat It? No, I didn't eat it. Well, What happened? And they looked around and, and Katie said, I, I dunno. All I know is that when I opened the cupboard door was sitting there, it was so pretty and it looked so good. And I took one little flick and, and then, And then they heard something from inside that cupboard. They heard a, And she opened the cupboard door further and peered back into the back of the cupboard. And there was their cat. Their cat had jumped in, and when she had felt something, she had turned to look away. And when she was turned away, the cat jumped into the cupboard and ate the cake while Katie was distracted. And when after she had closed that door type. So they got the kitty out, oh, you naughty Nty Kitty. And they kicked it out of the house and well, not really kicked it. They, you know, put it out of the house. And then Katie went and said, well, mother can. Can't you make another one? Mother said, oh no, it's too late. But I wanna, and Katie Was crying and oh, mother felt very bad. But she knew that Katie needed to learn a lesson. There are consequences when we disobey, just like for Katie, they didn't have that special cake when her little friends came over, just some bread and butter. Adam and Eve were told not to touch the fruit. There was no need for them to touch it. There was no reason for them to touch it. But they decided that they were going to trust a serpent rather than trusting God in boys and girls. We're gonna find out more about that next time. It is so important that we learn when we're young to obey, because obedience is what brings us safety. Obedience is what brings us happiness forever. If we choose to obey boys and girls, do you wanna choose to obey? Obey the parents that God has put in your lives, obey the grandparents that he's put in your lives. Obey the teachers, the principal. Obey the pastors. Obey those who are in authority. I know I do. It is so much better when we obey. Let's pray. Lord, help us to obey as we learn and study more about Adam and Eve, the choices that they made this week. I pray that you will help us to purpose in our hearts, that we will obey, that we will make that choice, that we will flee from temptation, and that we will do what you want us to do. Be with us today and go with us. Give us your love in our hearts. In Jesus name, amen. It's our memory verse today. It's from John three 16. And I bet, I bet you know this verse, just a hunch, for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
