Hello friends. Welcome to the Seed Pod for kids. Thank you for joining me today as we spend time with our friend Jesus. Spending time with Jesus is the best way to start your day. Let's begin our time together, praising him. This song was written by Fanny Crosby. She wrote thousands of poems that were put to music and we sing many of them today. Did you know that Fanny was blind? Although she was blind, her grandmother made sure that Fanny would enjoy life. Eunice Crosby, Fanny's. Grandma would read to her the many classics in literature, and it was her grandma who as Fanny would later recall, brought the Bible to me and me to the Bible. So let's sing this song. Redeemed Together, Redeemed how I love Brooklyn through his treaty. Mother redeemed, Redeemed His child forever. Im I know there's a crown that yonder for and at home, the Lord I shall redeem. Redeemed. Redeem by the Lord of the Redeemed. Redeemed Am Welcome to hide his word, a special program where we take a few minutes to hide God's word in our hearts. Let's go ahead and get started. We only have two more verses, and then we know all of Psalm 23. Isn't that amazing? We're gonna learn those two verses this week. So let's just jump right in and get started. Verse five of Psalm 23 says this, listen carefully. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil. My cup runs over. Okay, so there's kind of two parts to this. The first one is preparing a table and then anointing his cup or his head, not his cup, anointing his head with oil. And then all the blessings that God gives us. Our cup, my cup runs over. That means I have so many blessings, I can't even count. It's almost like when you pour water into a cup. You have so much that you just keep pouring and pouring, and even though the cup overflows, you still have more blessings. You still have more water. So let's say that again. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil, my cup runs over. Let's do that again. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil. My cup runs over. Try to imagine what the words are saying. Maybe even come up with some actions like a table. Pretend like you're spreading a tablecloth in the presence of my enemies, and you're looking around at your enemies. You anoint my head with oil, poor oil on your head. My cup runs over almost like a fountain. It's bubbling up, runs over. So when you do those motions, it can help you to remember and to know what comes next. Okay? I'm going to say the first phrase, and I want you to repeat the phrases after me. You ready? You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil. My cup runs over. Good. One more time. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil. My cup runs over. You're doing a great job. Keep up the good work. Have you ever seen somebody but not known their name? And so you go, Hey, hey, hey, you. Come here. Come here. And maybe you're trying to get their attention, you're waving at them. Come on, come on. But you don't know their name. It makes it a little hard, doesn't it? Well, there is a girl in our story today that we don't know her name. And so instead of saying, Hey, you or this little girl, we're gonna call her little maid. But before we learn this story, let's bow our heads and pray for God to be with us. Dear Lord, we just thank you so much for the way that you work in our lives and how sometimes even when bad things happen, you can bring about good. And I thank you for that, that you are God and you are in control, and you are amazing. Be with us today as we study and learn more about this special story that you put in your Bible. Thank you for it. In Jesus' name, amen. Little maid's, parents lived in Israel. Do you remember where that is? That was over kind of near the Jordan River, right? You have Israel and Jerusalem and Bethlehem. Actually, that was in Judah, but you had Samaria and oh, there were lots of people that lived there. Her parents lived in Israel, and they were among those who were faithful to God from the time Little Maid was born, they taught her to love and trust him with all of her heart. Is that what your parents are doing? Helping you to learn, to love and trust Jesus, to memorize scripture and to spend time with him? I hope so. She and her parents knew about Elisha. We've been learning about Elisha, haven't we? He did all kinds of miracles that we've been talking about. And no doubt her mother had told her about how he had helped people and about the wonderful miracles that God had done through him. Little made loved God with all of her heart. She had chosen to belong to him and to trust him as long as she lived, no matter what happened, and a lot was happening. In fact, there were a lot of sad things that were happening. The kingdom of Syria was right next to the kingdom of Israel. That was where little maid lived, right? Those two nations were enemies. And when the Syrians took one of the cities away from Israel, then King Ahab had to fight to get it back. But you know what happened? Oh, no. The Israelites lost the battle, and Ahab died ever since then when no one was expecting them. The Syrian soldiers often would come into Israel and fight with them. And it was during one of those times that little made was kidnapped. She was taken to Syria. Oh, how terrified she must have been, and how terrible her parents must have felt there. She went, taken away by the Syrians. I kind of wonder how little Maid was feeling. Was she remembering Joseph, that he had been carried away as a slave to Egypt and now just like Joseph, she had a choice to make too. Who would she still keep trusting and loving God? Or would she turn her back on God and be mad because he was allowing these bad things to happen, even though she felt as if her heart was breaking, she made the same choice that Joseph did. She would keep on loving and trusting and obey God no matter what happened to her. Sometimes boys and girls, things happen to people who love and obey God. Sometimes people think that, well, if you love God and you follow him, then everything will be perfect. Everything will go just fine. But that's not how it happens. We live in a very sinful world, and sometimes bad things happen to good people. What did Joseph say about the bad things that happened to him? Let's look that up in Genesis chapter 50, verse 20. So we're going to Genesis, that first book in the Bible, Genesis chapter 50, and then verse 20, Genesis chapter 50, verse 20. Let's see what that says. But as for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring it about as it is this day to save many people alive. Even when bad things happen, God can take those bad things and make good come from the bad. Do you think that that's what's gonna happen to Little Maid? I think so. You know, I was thinking about a story that illustrates this. There was a man named Nikolai, and he lived in a country where it was illegal to be a Christian. They would get in big trouble if they went to church, but Nikolai knew that no matter what, he must obey God. One day he got in trouble for being a believer, for loving God. And so the police took him to the police station and they interrogated him. That means they asked him lots of questions, and then they said, you know what? We're gonna send you to the, the remote north where there's snow and cold in the winter, and where there is mosquitoes in the summer. It's awful. And so they put him on a train and off they went. There were other people on this train too, and there was one particular man that Nikolai started talking to. And as they talked, they had a wonderful conversation. And in the end, the man gave his heart to Jesus. Isn't that wonderful? Nikola knew that no matter where he was, no matter how bad the circumstances were, he was going to follow and trust and obey God and be a witness for God wherever he was put. Even if it was on a train going to the remote reaches of Siberia, he was still going to be a witness for God. Isn't that wonderful? If you wanna read that story, it's an incredible story called The Seventh Day Ox by Bradley Booth. It's a great story. My boys and I have enjoyed it immensely, and in fact, throughout this week, I might share a couple more stories from that book. But I wanna encourage each one of you that even when bad things happen, to ask God to help you, to be a witness for him, to be able to be a light in the darkness. Because when we show Jesus to those around us, that's how we're being a witness. And an example for him, I wanna be that today. How about you? Dear Lord, we just ask and pray that you will help us today to be a witness and an example for you, even when bad things happen, just like little maid having to leave her home and go be a slave, she was still faithful and she was a witness telling her master and mistress that there is a God in heaven who can heal, who can work miracles. We just thank you that you are that God in heaven for us, and that you want to do the same thing for us today. We love you so much, amen. Our memory verse this week is a great one. It's from Proverbs chapter 22, verse six. It says, train up a child in the way he should go. And when he is old, he will not depart from it. That means that what we learn when we're young, we're gonna follow and do when we're older. So is it important to learn good things and to learn to love God and follow him when we're young? Yes it is. And that's what you're doing by spending time with Jesus each and every day. Train up a child, train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old or when he is old, he will not depart from his Proverbs 22, 6, train up a child, train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, when he is old, he'll not part from Pit Roberts 22 verse, What started as one little dream has become hundreds of families tuning in during the week to spend time with Jesus.
