Bangladesh Mission Report

Well, I just wanted to share with you, I guess, our experience.

We took a team of 42 members, many from Avinhope, and a lot of students from the campus here.

And we also had some other people from the community and out of state join us this year for our annual Bangladesh trip.

Our trip was in September, towards the end of September.

We stayed there for about a week and were able to serve.

And we just wanted to share that experience with you this morning.

We share this experience for a couple of reasons.

1 is to show that God can use sinners like myself and you, and that we can be a part of this wonderful work and service to mankind, that we can bring hope into a country where often there is very little hope.

And the other reason is to inspire others to get involved, that we can see the challenges and to meet it.

And that is kind of the reasons why we do what we do and we share these experiences with you.

I know that there are several, if not many, from that trip that came on and that's in presence here and I thought maybe I can kind of acknowledge you by asking you guys to stand.

We have a handful here that were part of that trip.

So yeah, it's nice because they're not all part of the members here, but they are coming to worship with us this morning.

And lastly, our presentation is kind of special this morning.

We have 5 presenters from different departments and they're going to be kind of sharing their experience with us.

It's a short video that kind of gives you an overview of what the working conditions were and what we did there.

And after that, we're going to get into our presentation.

So I guess we can just start with a word of prayer just to invite the spirit into our presence here.

Dear Heavenly Father, we want to thank you again for life, for we know that many did not wake up to see another day.

We thank you that we can call you God and that we can turn to you with praises and with our needs.

Lord, we invite you into our presence that you will continue to work in our lives, that we may be a force of change and hope in this world.

We pray, Lord, that you will continue to help us to walk in your will, and we acknowledge that Even our most righteous deeds are filthy rags.

And so we invite you to continue to join us that we may be co-laborers in your work and that your presence will be the power behind all that we do.

We thank you again that we can come to you and for this time that we can worship as believers.

For this we pray in the name of Jesus, amen.

150 million people in a land the size of Iowa.

In September 2008, 40 Americans journeyed there to minister to Jesus in the person of suffering humanity, to minister for Jesus, the only Jesus many there will ever know.

We had 1 medical student, a senior medical student.

We also had 5 dentists, 20 dental students, 4 dental hygiene students, 1 pre-dental student.

We also had 2 teachers, 1 engineer, 1 physical therapy doctor.

It's pretty diverse, the group that we took.

Anyone can be used as long as they're willing to be used.

They had 4 buildings, and we were able to utilize all the rooms in the buildings.

We had a room with all our supplies, all the dental materials, slash sterilization, along with 3 mobile units in that room.

So we were doing fillings along with sterilization.

We had another room that allowed us to provide strictly hygiene work.

We were able to clean, we had our Cavatrons going.

The whole time we were there, we also had our custom designed vacuum that allowed us to have suction.

And our last room is what we call the surgery room, where we did all our extractions.

Outside of that, the building, we also had an area where we took radiographs.

It's digital radiographs allowed us to see the tooth instantly, allowed us to better diagnose the conditions.

We also had other buildings where 1 in particular was used by the medical team, general medicine, and it was partitioned with sheets and allowed us to have 3 physicians there taking care of basic general medical needs in that room.

And we also had a room just strictly for eye care, which allowed the dispensement of glasses along with some basic eye examinations.

This year we were able to add, thanks to Tim Riesenberger, the emergency department.

We also had Vacation Bible School, which was genius to prepare.

You know, when you think about the purpose of a mission trip, medical missionary work is the right arm of the gospel.

And this year, praise God, we were able to introduce the Gospel a little more proactively than we did last year.

I am really extremely happy and thankful that Loma Linda group came to Bangladesh and to Jolshotro.

I am very thankful to our loving God who allowed this second trip actually.

This is the second trip and as I compare what was the last year and this year, it is even more successful, more powerful, and we treated over 2, 400 patients during only 5 days.

And for this territory, for this country, it's great help.

Because the majority of them suffer with different kind of diseases, dental diseases, all need cleaning and other needs.

I've been asked, you know, why do you keep going to the same spot?

You know, There's so many places in the world.

I hope that something is developing here because the consistency yields rapport, and with rapport comes trust, And with trust, you can share Jesus.

And your friend will be open to at least hear, you know, the friendship that you've developed with these patients.

And that's what's happened in just 2 years.

We have rapport, we have trust, we have repeat patients.

People know about the church in that area, and they recognize it as a source of help, a source of relief, a source of healing.

This year as I drove away and drove into the immediate community surrounding Jal Chhatra, I realized how big the task is once again.

What is 2, 400 patients, Not all of which we prayed with or shared Christ with, but in some way or another provided some care.

Last year we nicked the surface, this year we scratched the surface.

I want to bring my Bangla brothers and sisters to Christ.

And you know when you do something exciting and an adventure, you want to come back and you want to tell everyone about it, right?

The difficult part was from this trip, actually, there was several parts for me beyond just the medical team, but I actually came back with like 1, 700 pictures and they told me you know 10 pictures only.

How am I going to share with 10 pictures?

So I'm just going to give a little introduction here when they get...
