Let’s Go Home!

Our Father in Heaven, Lord, I thank you so much for the gift of life, but more than just physical life, I want to thank you for the spiritual life that is given to each 1 of us that flows through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Lord, to Him be all glory and praise and honor.

He is worthy of praise, for He has created all things, and for His will and pleasure they are and we are created.

Lord, may we always do those things that please You, just as Jesus did.

I pray now as we reflect on the soon coming of Jesus Christ that we would see even more clearly and more earnestly our need of preparation.

Lord, help us all to be ready and may not 1 be missing.

Well, our subject this evening is, let's go home.

And I want to begin with a thought question, and that question is where is your home?

Is it some physical place, a geographic location?

You know, to me, growing up, home was kind of always where my parents lived.

And I grew up a pastor's kid, And so wherever my parents moved to, that was home.

And being a pastor, you know, there's moved, we've moved many different times.

And so, but home was where my, my mom and dad were.

In fact, even when I grew up and got married to my wife, my parents always gave me and left me a key to the house so that I could come back anytime I wanted.

I didn't have to call or say, hey, can you come and unlock the door so I can come in the house?

You have a key so that you can always come in at any time.

And my mom went a step further and said, we are always going to have a room for you in our house wherever you go.

I have a sister, myself, it's just, they're just 2 siblings, myself and my sister.

And even after we grew up and left the house, there's always going to be a room for my sister and a room for me wherever they go.

And so even though they're just the 2, they would always have a room.

Well, unfortunately, my mom passed away from breast cancer about 13 years ago, and as I mentioned, my father passed away last year from a heart attack.

The question becomes a little more challenging.

As I mentioned, growing up a pastor's kid, we moved to many different churches, always in the Carolinas.

My dad pastored 7 districts in North and South Carolina.

And by the time that we moved, actually this last, when I resigned my position working at Mount Pisgah Academy, this is my 20th time moving to a different location.

I'll give you, that is about an average of 1 every 2 years for how old I am.

But since we are living in this world of sin, it reminds me of a greater home that we all have.

A greater home and I think you know what that home is.

There's a well-known saying, a cliche that says, home is where the heart is.

So could I ask the question differently and say this evening, where is your heart?

If your heart is where your home is, where is your heart?

Well this evening I would like to submit to you that our true home is not here on this earth.

We have a far different focus and understanding than the rest of the world, and our focus I think is described in 2nd Corinthians chapter 4 verses 17 and 18.

2nd Corinthians chapter 4 verses 17 and 18 the Bible says, for our light affliction, which is but for what?

But for a moment worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.

Now notice, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen.

For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are unseen are eternal." Our eyes are fixed on those things that we cannot see.

We can only see them by faith, because they are revealed to us in the Word of God.

Well, what description has Jesus given us Himself of some of the things that we cannot see?

If you have your Bibles, John chapter 14, well known passage, John chapter 14 and looking at verses 1 through 3.

Probably all of you can quote this with me, whether you realize it or not.

John chapter 14, verses 1 through 3, a description of Jesus himself and our home, which now we cannot see, but only through faith.

The Bible says, John 14, Jesus himself speaking, let not your hearts be troubled.

If it were not so, I would have told you.

I go to prepare a place for you, and if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there you may be also." You know, this is again, as I mentioned in our earlier presentation, the value of memorizing Scripture, because why is Jesus promising to return?

The reason why Jesus says he promises that he might receive us unto himself that where he is there we may be also.

I'll say amen for you because that is so awesome that where he is we might be able to be with Him, that we might be in the immediate presence of our Savior.

That is an awesome, awesome promise that Jesus Himself has given to us.

He wants us to be with Him, that we might always live together with Him for all eternity.

You know there is a statement in the Spirit of Prophecy, I don't have it in my notes, but Ellen White says, I believe it's in a compilation called, The Truth About Angels.

And it's also, this statement is in another periodical.

But you know God's purpose for creating human beings was to repopulate Heaven.

After the fall of Lucifer and his angels when his tail swept a third of the stars out of the heaven, a third of the fallen angels, the purpose of God in creating human beings was to repopulate Heaven.

And further, although it seems that Satan has thwarted that plan, it's only temporary because the redeemed of God will repopulate heaven just as God intended from the beginning.

What a glorious promise is ours that's held out to us in the Word of God, to repopulate heaven, to live with Him.

God is a people person and He longs for His people to live with Him.

Well, I have heard some actually say, this is a shocking statement to me, that it's selfish to look forward to Jesus' Second Coming.

I have heard some say that we should rather focus on working to establish God's kingdom on earth instead.

Well, I want to examine this idea by noticing some passages of Scripture and the words of Jesus Himself in the Word of God.

So turn in your Bibles to Matthew chapter 6.

Matthew chapter 6, and this is in the middle of the the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5, 6, and 7, and we're going to read some verses.

In fact, you probably don't even need to turn there because you already know these verses.

And Jesus speaking says in verse 9, after this manner therefore pray ye, our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven.

Jesus is teaching us to pray for His kingdom to come.

He is teaching that we would pray for His kingdom to Come to this earth.

I want to read to you from thoughts from the Mount of Blessings That relates to this point right here the servant of the Lord illuminates and says the disciples of Christ were looking in their day for the Immediate coming of the kingdom of his glory but in giving them this prayer Jesus taught that the kingdom was not then to be established.

They were to pray for its coming as an event yet future.

But this petition was also an assurance to them.

While they were not to behold the coming of the kingdom in their day, the fact that Jesus made them pray for it is evident that in God's own time it will surely come." In God's own time it will surely come.

So Jesus taught his followers to pray for his kingdom to come.

I want you to notice something else Jesus said about his kingdom in John chapter 18.

If you flip over now to the Gospel of John and Jesus in speaking to Pilate, John chapter 18 verses 36 and 37 is going to give us a clue an insight a powerful insight as to his kingdom John 18 verse 36 Jesus speaking to Pilate and Pilate asking him a question about what is truth.

John 18 and verse 36, Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world.

If my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight that I should not be delivered to the Jews.

But now is my kingdom not from hence." Verse 37, Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then?

Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king.

To this end was I born, And for this cause came I into the world that I should bear witness unto the truth Everyone that is of the truth here with my voice.
