In Every Tongue

We are to preach to every nation, tribe, tongue and people.

Paul wrote the following in 1 Corinthians 14, So likewise you, unless you utter by the tongue words easy to understand, how will it be known what is spoken?

And of course, we need to preach to people, for people to understand, we need to get the message in a language they can understand and preferably that they can understand well.

Usually, it s something special to get things in a language you know and you like.

It's different to hear it in your mother tongue.

Anyone of you know How many languages do we have in the world?

It's the best 1 so far, I think at least.

100, 000, no that's too much, that's too much.

Maybe if you count dialects, I don't know.

Most AdMTs publications appear in the major languages, you know, in English, Spanish, French, you know, German, you know, major languages, Portuguese.

And these languages are understood and accessible to many places around the world, also in emerging nations.

You know, these languages are accessible to educated people and to the elite.

But to reach the common people in this, in many, many places around the world, in many, many countries around the world, we need to publish it in the mother tongue.

Most of what I have in this presentation I got from a little powerful booklet.

It was made some years ago by William Carey book foundation.

And basically, so probably the numbers are a little different, but it gives a good idea.

It's not 2001, I think, to publish it, but still.

In that, when they made a pamphlet, The complete Bible was existing in 371 languages of 6, 800.

And in comparison, SDA publications, we had it in 295 languages.

Periodicals in 74 languages, and Ellen White books in 141 languages.

In comparison, Jehovah's Witnesses publication in 361 verses 295 and periodicals 139 verses 74.

And according to the general conference, or yeah, and this, also the Jesus video, it's a powerful video that has been really a powerful tool in evangelism.

It has been translated 542 languages, and this video was made in 1979.

And now according to general conferences, the Adventist message is oral in 803 languages, but printed, they said, in this statement, in 310 languages.

So in other words, we are present in 803 languages, but of these languages, 493 do not have any printed publications, nothing written.

And now, on top of that, Even worse, in the languages we actually have books, and Ellen White books for instance, and Amethyst literature, we maybe don't have many, or not a lot, right?

And maybe if we have, where we have had stuff, they are not maybe currently in print.

They're maybe old language, old translation, and maybe they are like this.

We have 5 copies of different Ellen White books.

Like, we are far from where we should be.

We are like it's sad to think about it, but it's good to do a reality check.

Now I think we have some things to learn from your witnesses and from Campus Crusade for Christ with the Jesus video and also from Wycliffe Bible Translation.

They are in a very organized and systematic manner, they are approaching the translation.

So I want to share something, I think it's inspiring to see how they are, you know, moving forward with their work also from this booklet.

Wycliffe Bible Translation at this time when it was printed, they had been translating, or been involved in translating the New Testament in 500 languages, quite a lot, right?

Reaching out to 30 million people, so I guess that's 500 smaller languages, not because probably they had already in the bigger ones, yeah?

They had, they were at the moment, it was printed, engaged in 1095 languages, I guess that's on top of that, as far as I understand.

And they had a presence in 1, 571 languages.

And the goal was that at least a part of the Bible would be translated in every language in 2025.

To, you know, to finish, we need to plan for it, to make it happen, yeah?

Success in any line demands a definite end.

The Jesus Film Project, or yeah, currently, or when this was printed, 3, 000, still 3, 000 people groups who do not have the Bible in their language.

The Jesus Film Project, that's really powerful and really something that should inspire us I think.

They have in, Let me see, or before I say that I can say, the mission of the Jesus Film Project was to basically to show the Jesus Film to everyone in the world in his or her language.

Made in 1979, their mission is that everyone in the world will hear, watch this video and thus hear the gospel in their own language.

And so basically at the time when it was published they had scheduled to translate it into languages, every language with 75, 000 or more primary speakers.

So that is 1, 154 languages they were, they had scheduled translations for.

And that would basically cover 99% of the world's population.

So if you reach about that, you cover almost everything.

And that would be, or to date, or in that time, they had already 542 translations when this was, you know, printed.

And they were working on 215, 215 hundred languages in progress.

And that, according to their schedule, every 7 to 10 days they would have a new translation.

So that's quite powerful, they're pushing forward, let's reach out to everyone, and that's how we should plan.

And now, that's when this was printed, right, in 2001.

So I checked up just this week, like to see, to learn some more on how this project had developed.

I found that, you know, it was released, you know, in 1979.

In 1989, 10 years later, they had it in 542 languages.

They had it in, they had 147 translations in 10 years.

It was translated, it's like the amount, about the same amount that we have Ellen White books in 100 years, you know.

In 1999, they had, they reached 500 translations.

In 2002, 793 languages, which is 85% of the world, it covered.

In 2007, they reached a thousand translations.

2009, they set a new goal, that is to reach everyone, every language that has 50, 000 or more speakers.

So that is 865 more languages than they currently have at that time.

And January 12, 2016, this week, you can look exactly on how many languages they have, you can look on an interactive timeline of everything since they started on their webpage.

Think we have something to learn from their work.

And not only that, basically since they published the video several billion viewings, several billion times this video has been viewed.
