120 Years In His Shoes

Dear Father in Heaven, as we study your word, as we go through this message that you've put upon my heart, I pray that each person here would place themselves in the situation which we're going to be talking about and see the relevance.

I pray that your spirit would be here and bless my mind, bless my heart, bless my words.

And that you would bless the hearers that they would understand the importance of the times we're living in.

I pray for those who have gone estranged from you, that you would draw them back.

And as we study together, I pray that each person would follow the mission of Advent Hope to help others prepare for eternity.

And I pray these things in Jesus' name, Amen.

So if a timeline was given for the layout of the Bible.

The first 6 chapters would cover the first roughly 1600 years of Earth's history.

And the next 1100 chapters would cover the following 2500 years of Earth's history, leading up to the time of Christ and the early church.

The following 2, 000 years covered primarily in types and symbols in the book of Revelation, as well as in other parts of Scripture.

But throughout Scripture, there is this conclusion, this culmination that is spoken of, and we as Adventists call it the Great Controversy, where sin will finally be removed from the universe, and God's people will be reconciled back to himself.

But before that happens, there's a foretold execution of judgment that's going to take place.

And it's going to take place upon all humanity.

Now, this is the final judgment, but it's actually the second of its kind in magnitude.

The first being by a deluge of water, the second by a consuming fire.

So what we're going to do is we're going to spend most of our time together going through those 6 chapters in the book of Genesis.

And I'm hoping you can find a parallel in the life of Noah with your own life.

We're going to be putting ourselves in Noah's situation.

We're going to see if we can see the relevance in what the Bible says, as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be in the coming of the Son of Man.

The title of my message is 120 years in his shoes.

But as an opener I'd like to start with something maybe some of you if not most of you already know and we're gonna start in Genesis 5 verse 21.

Genesis 5 verse 21, we're going to be reading to verse 24.

And Enoch lived 65 years and begat Methuselah.

And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah 300 years and begat sons and daughters.

And all the days of Enoch were 300 and sixty-five years.

And Enoch walked with God and he was not, for he was taken." So Enoch was translated to heaven, and he walked with God.

But before he walked with God in heaven, he also walked with God on earth.

But what does it mean he walked with God?

Was this more like if 2 must walk together, they must be agreed, did they just agree on things or was there more to it?

1st John 2, 5 and 6, But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected.

He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also to walk even as he walked.

So what does it mean that Enoch walked with God?

Well, let's just read it in reverse and see if we can come to a better conclusion, because that was pretty meaty.

Enoch walked with God, and in order for Enoch to walk with God, God abideth in him.

And if God abideth in him, the love of God is perfected in character.

And how is the love of God perfected in his character?

There's a systematic way about which way you become walking with God.

The love of God was perfected in his heart, and because of that, he was translated.

So if it was possible for Enoch to walk with God and be translated, it's also possible for us to walk with God and be translated.

So Enoch walks with God, but during this time he also begat a son, which we read about.

So in verse 25 of that same chapter of Genesis, we're going to go back to Genesis, and Methuselah lived 187 years and begat Lamech.

So Methuselah lives a hundred eighty-seven years and begats Lamech, and then we read in verse 28 and 29 that Lamech lived a hundred eighty-two years old and he begat a son.

And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because the ground which the Lord hath cursed." So Methuselah lives 187 years and he begats a son, his name is Lamech.

Lamech lives 182 years, he begats a son, His name is Noah.

And then if you read in Genesis 7, 6 Genesis 7, 6 says, and Noah was 600 years old when the floodwaters came upon the earth.

So from Methuselah to Lamech 187, from Lamech to Noah 182, and Noah to the time of the flood 600 years.

If Methuselah would have lived until the time of the flood, he would have been 969 years old.

And for those of you Bible students who are familiar with this, Noah did live to be 969 years old.

And we have that in verse 27 of Genesis 5.

And all the days of Methuselah were 969 years and he died.

Enoch, who walked with God, who had the love of God perfected in his character, who was translated also by inspiration of God, predicted that there would be a judgment that would take place upon the earth and he named his son Methuselah, which means when he dies it shall be sent.

It was a prophecy in the name of his son as he constantly walked around that the judgment was going to take place upon the earth.

My point is that we have 2 people here who served as witnesses.

Enoch served as a witness that he walked with God and the love of God was perfect in his character.

We have his son who was a testimony that there would be a judgment taking place upon the world.

And whether you believe it or not, you're also a witness.

You're either witnessing in favor of God or against it, whether you realize it or not.

You are always witnessing to some regard.

But we're not gonna be spending our time talking about Enoch or Methuselah.

So let's read in Genesis chapter 6, verses 1 through 7.

And it came to pass when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, chapter 6, verses 1 through 7.

And they took them wives of all which they chose.

And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he is also flesh, yet his days shall be a hundred and 20 years.

There were giants in the earth in those days, and also after that.

When the sons of God came in under the daughters of men, and they bared children to them, the same became mighty men, which were of old, men of renown.

And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

And he repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

And the Lord said, I will Destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast and the creeping thing and the fowls of the air, for it repented me that I have made them." So what's going on here?

We have a lot of wickedness taking place on the earth.

We have evil continually escalating and growing.

And we don't know the extent of this evil, but it wasn't even just the evil acts that they were doing, their heart was evil as well.

Even their thoughts were continually dwelling on evil things.

And it just seems like it couldn't get much worse.

Because it contrasts the daughters of men with the sons of God.

The sons of God are the righteous, the daughters of men are the wicked, and it says that they were commingling themselves 1 with another.
