Looking Unto Jesus

My Father which is in heaven, Father what a great joy and privilege it is to be here with your children.

Father, 10 years ago I never thought I would have this great privilege of being able to share what you've done for me as a result of this ministry.

Lord, I want to be the first to say that these 10 years of my life have been the best years of having you in my life.

And Lord, I'm so thankful that you have kept Anthony and I on that straight and narrow after 10 years.

You've kept a strong and faithful father.

Him and I have seen many people who have come into the faith with us leave.

And I pray that this weekend, if there's anyone here, Father, that's on the verge of leaving, if there's anyone here that's on the verge of giving up, that they will look to Jesus and find hope.

Bless us, Lord, as we open up your word, in Jesus' name, amen.

The Bible says, a very familiar verse in the book of Revelation chapter 12 verse 11, the Bible says, and they overcame him, who is him?

And they overcame the devil by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

The Bible says that there's 2 ways of how we overcome the devil.

All right, I'm Hispanic and I need interaction.

The Bible says there's 2 ways of how we overcome in this Christian walk.

And I want to let you know something that when you have Jesus in your life, when you accept the blood of the Lamb, all of a sudden you have a testimony to give.

The Bible says, friends, that when Jesus comes into your life, He changes your life.

And so friends, if tonight you've accepted Christ into your life, you have the great privilege of telling the world what Jesus has done in you.

And tonight, friends, I get a great opportunity of sharing with you how Jesus has touched my life by starting from the very beginning.

My father is a full-blood Mexican born in Chihuahua, Mexico.

My mother is a full-blown Puerto Rican and I am thankful to be part of this wonderful Latino family.

And my parents had another child by the name of Christina.

She loves serving the Lord, and I'm so thankful for that.

This is the only picture that I was able to find amidst all the pictures that my family have in their album of my whole family together.

Because at the age of 6, My parents got a divorce and they split.

But you know, growing up in this family was a wonderful thing.

My parents took me to a Christian church and I loved it.

I grew up in a good home, but my God was basketball.

And I remember, friends, he just loved the Lakers so much.

He would dress me in Lakers attire, taught me how to play basketball from a very young age.

In fact, friends, 1 of my first words as a child was not mommy and daddy, but was 1 of the players of the Los Angeles Lakers.

We used to watch on the 12-inch TV screen that my father had, we used to watch every single game of the Lakers.

And every time Magic Johnson had the ball, I would say, magic, magic.

And that was 1 of the first words I've ever said.

I would sleep and dream about basketball.

You know, friends, the dream of me becoming a basketball player came to a screeching halt when my parents decided to get a divorce.

I didn't understand it, why father was not at home, why mother was struggling so, and why this separation, why did this take place?

And from a very early age, friends, after the divorce, my life just went downhill.

You see, my family, a lot of my family are into drugs or were into drugs and so I grew up in a drug abuse home.

I remember as a little boy I would be, I was in my, I went to spend time with my mother and she was sharing an apartment with 1 of her family members and I remember 1 night, I'm kneeling down to pray.

My father's a good Christian man And he taught me how to pray every time before I would go to bed to pray, lift my heart out to God.

And I remember 1 night I was kneeling down on our bedside and all of a sudden as I'm praying all of a sudden I hear a voice clear as the noon day and it said, David, get out.

I looked my mother in the eye and I said, Mom, we gotta get out of here.

And so my mother, my sister and I slept on a tiny bed together that night.

And in this dream I saw a lot of angels flying around.

And I remember I woke up And there was a cloud of smoke in the room My uncle was doing so much drugs that literally the smoke of his drugs was getting into the room and I could barely breathe Horrendous, and so I was shaking I was nervous.

I looked at my mother, I said, mom, what are we going to do?

I opened the window up, helped my mother, my sister, and then I went out.

Before that, I locked the door of the bedroom door.

We went over to another friend's apartment nearby, and I remember I was laying down on the floor of this lady's room, and I could still hear my family member screaming and cursing.

And all of a sudden I heard this big bang.

He broke through the door that I had locked of our bedroom window and he began to scream, hey where are you?

And so growing up as a little child, I was in constant fear of what drugs were going to do to my family.

Several times, my family members would try to kill me as a little age.

I remember walking into a room, and I saw my aunt literally being killed.

My uncles were doing drugs, and her hair was being pulled out.

And I was watching this as a little boy, looking at the destruction of what drugs does to someone's life.
