Aaron Koh Ice-breaker Interview

Thank you Antoinette for the introduction and for the thoughtful devotional.

For the icebreaker I decided to interview our speaker for tonight and I'll use this opportunity to also introduce him.

And I'm introducing basically my friend Aaron Koh.

Aaron, you might remember we first met last year at our integrative training of bio balance.

And now we have crossed time since then, since we both live in Melbourne, so that's very convenient.

So I wanna tell you that Aaron is a general practitioner practicing here in Melbourne, and he's married to Jesselyn, who is a GP registrar.

And beside his work as a GP, Aaron also has a passion for medical missionary work.

And I can tell you he's been very active in his local church, contributing to projects such as church planting or the We Explore Center of Influence in Melbourne.

The first center of influence here in Melbourne, so we're a bit jealous of that.

I am part of a group we are also trying to start a center of influence but Gateway and We Explore has beat us to that so congrats guys.

Erin has also been very active to the new Online Church Melbourne ministry.

My understanding is that they've commenced in March of this year and they are targeting people looking for spiritual truth particularly in this challenging COVID-19 times.

But I believe Aaron will tell you a bit much about Online Church Melbourne.

So for now, Aaron, tell me a bit about yourself.

How does your faith and your medical missionary focus influence your day-to-day clinical practice?

And you know, over the years I have grown spiritually as I spend more time mingling with my mentors in Gateway and outside of Gateway.

And I firmly believe, I come to the idea that our faith and our work are not to be separated.

They are to be intermingled together and as I take pride as being a Seventh-day Adventist number 1 and secondly being a doctor And with that mindset that I have, every time that it changes my life and the way that I view ministry, that every person that walked through to my clinic is someone that Jesus has died for.

And it's someone that I prayerfully try to reach and reach out to them in sharing the gospel as well, apart from just healing them from their physical or emotional or mental ailments.

I think that also touched a bit on what Antoinette was saying about how our spiritual approach should transpire in everything we do in our day-to-day life, but especially in our work with our patients.

Tell me, could you Share with me 1 of the most rewarding experiences you've had in your clinical practice so far.

I'm currently working in general practice here in 2 places in Doncaster and Chadston.

And every day it's a rewarding experience.

And it's hardly a day when I walk away that I don't feel that, you know, and that God has not blessed me with the day.

But some of the most rewarding experiences in my general practice, it's able to reach out to people spiritually.

I think that is something that I could not describe in words but looking at the patient's faces light up when you offer to pray for them.

Looking at their demeanor changed when you offer them hope with a glow tracks, something for them to take away with, and getting patients to come back and say, thank you so much for that book that you gave me, the desire of ages that I've read about Jesus and that changed my life.

And those are the things that are especially rewarding, able to pass on the love of Jesus and getting that spiritual connection with my patients.

On a lighter note, what do you like to do in your spare time?

What are your hobbies for you and your family I guess?

Yeah, Horacio, you know, this year has been fairly difficult for all of us here in Melbourne, Victoria and certain places around Australia and across the globe as well.

And 1 of the hardest thing was the lockdown that we can't travel more than 5 kilometers away from where we stay, because just like myself, we love to get out into the country.

And we love to drive to new places, into a country home where we can, you know.

1 of the things I particularly enjoy most is really jumping off my ride-on mower and put on my headphones and listen to Audioverse as I total work and reflect upon the ministry that God has given us and what we can do more moving ahead.

In a very challenging time, but somehow we pulled through and we're so excited here in Victoria that we've had more than 4 weeks without new COVID cases.
