Choose Full Life, Tell the World!

Happy Sabbath to all of you at Advent Hope.

I'm thrilled to be here with you this morning.

This is actually my second time at Advent Hope.

And I'm always, when I'm in town, which is not that often, I like to come here in the morning and spend time in Sabbath with you, listening to the inspiring messages and the Bible studies that we have.

So it's a thrill for me to be here this morning with you, especially to talk about something that is a passion of mine.

I think probably Carlos mentioned, I just recently had the privilege to be now serving as the director for health ministries at North American Division.

And this has been a passion of mine, health ministry, and the whole concept of bringing health and restoration to people, communities, as God has called us to do, has been a passion of mine for many years.

I'm a nurse practitioner by training, but have been very involved with our churches doing this.

And I feel so blessed with this opportunity now to do this.

And especially, I'm thrilled today because 1 of our interests is to really engage our youth, our young adults, our younger generation in this ministry.

And I was so glad to see here in your bulletin that you have Advent Health as a ministry here.

And so I'm thrilled to be here and to share this message with you this morning.

And I entitled this message, Choose Full Life and Tell the World.

The text for us this morning has to do with that.

But Before I share our text, I would like to pray and ask God's Spirit to be with us again.

Dear Heavenly Father, I am so grateful to you this Sabbath to be here and to worship with this wonderful group of people that love you.

We adore you, we are here to worship you.

And as we now dig into your word, to study your message for us this morning, I pray that you may empower me with your Holy Spirit.

Empower each of us here with the presence of your spirit so that we may be able to discern what you wanna teach us this morning.

Please use my lips, but may the words I say be not mine but be yours, and may it reach the hearts here this morning so that every need that is out here may be met by what you have to say to us.

I'd like to share with you the text this morning, which is actually in Deuteronomy 30, verse 19.

And if you can turn your Bibles with me to this text, God is talking to his people, just like he's talking to us this morning.

And He is telling them in verse 19, again, chapter 30, Deuteronomy, verse 19.

I have set before you life and death, Blessing and cursing.

Choose life that both you and your descendants might live.

God is telling us today, I have set before you life.

So choose life and tell the world is our message.

I came across this text here by Herbert Agar.

And he wrote, the truth that makes men free is for the most part the truth which men prefers not to hear.

Many times, The message or the truth that will set us free is that very thing we don't wanna hear about.

And so I talk to myself many times when we talk about life and health.

Many of us may have areas that we don't want to hear about.

But this area is actually what can set us free.

And we'll see that life, full life that God wants for us, many times have to do with these things that we might not want to hear about.

And this was years ago on the Dialogue magazine, I think, 19, I can't even read from here, but 1998.

And it says there, see, it's a scripture God telling us in Jeremiah 21 verse 8.

See, I have set before you the way of life and the way of death.

Similar to what Deuteronomy just said in the Bible.

But then he said, make level paths for your feet in Proverbs.

We'll turn around and say, oops, but there's a shortcut right here.

And we turn around instead of listening, and we decide to go the way we think is best.

Well, it says there, God made mankind upright, but men have gone in search of many schemes.

And these schemes have many times made us into not what God had intended us to be and had brought a lot of suffering, a lot of death in our lives.

I'd like to share with you that this is not true only today.

And here you can see a little history of our world all the way from creation to the end of the story of redemption in heaven when we'll be with God.

And because we have chosen our own ways, God in his love and mercy had a plan.

And throughout the history of this world, he had presented for us a present truth that would actually help us to get back to his original plan.

So we see in Eden, the fall, we choosing our own ways, God goes and sends a message and he says, I will send someone and he will be your deliverer.

In Noah's time, same thing, that people were so wicked.

It was to a point where it could no longer exist.

He said, preach, tell them that this is gonna come to an end but I will save you, this is my plan.

And he told him, build a boat and you know the story.

So there was a present truth for that time.

Again, he said, I need a people in this world that will show my whole creatures who are gone away in their own ways that I am love, that I am truth, and I have a plan.

So he said, Abraham, I'm going to make of you a great nation.

And that was the present truth at that time.

We're going to have a people, and you will be able to shine and to tell the world who I'm like, my character.

And so as we go along, we get to actually the next point in this chart here.

Jesus himself, after the whole story in the Old Testament, came as the Lord with the present message for his day saying, the kingdom of God have come and I am here because I want you to have abundant life and I want to restore what has happened.

And Jesus himself, Word made flesh, was here with us sharing about this wonderful plan.

And so, you know, this message that he came to share is the message of restoration, a message where we, despite our decisions, have a chance by God's grace, His gift of grace, to receive full restoration again, and to be able to follow what He has told us was originally the way of life, the best way for us to live.

And so I'd like to suggest to you this morning that when we talk about health, when we talk about full life, God had 3 main purposes for this message.

Throughout the story, and as we will see this morning in studying the Bible and his inspired words, that throughout these times, he had these 3 purposes with this gift of grace.

I truly believe that this message of restoration, the message of health, the health message that we know, is a gift of grace.

And I don't know, dear friends, about you, but if it was not for grace, I would not be here today.

I am passionate about this because I have experienced in my own life what it is to receive the gift that you don't deserve.

A gift that, despite your bad choices, God gives you a new start.

And you are able to restore, to find healing emotionally, physically, mentally, spiritually, and all around, whole person healing.

And so God's gift of grace is what this health message is about.

And the first purpose for this gift is an abundant life.

Again, the text that we read this morning, I have set before you life and death.

In Jeremiah, as the little cartoon showed, verse 8 in chapter 21, again, I have set before you the way of life, how to get there.

And then in Psalms, David says, you have shown to me the path of life.
