The Butterfly Effect of Literature Evangelism

It's a Sabbath, but you know what else is a special day for today?

It's my mom's birthday today And she's actually not here right now, but it is my mom's birthday.

And in light of my mom's birthday, I want to give you guys a gift.

Okay, so the ushers are set up at the back, and they're going to be handing out to you a gift.

How many of you guys have heard of GLOW before?

So we're gonna give each of you a little gift.

But as we're handing that out, I wanna share with you a little bit about the department that I work with.

I work part of SECC's Literature Ministries Department.

That's Southeastern California Conferences, Literature Ministries Department.

We work under the Evangelism Department of our conference and we are excited to be here today to share with you just a little bit about what we do.

Literature Ministries in this area, at least in our department, has started.

2007, we kind of got an entrance at La Sierra University.

There are some good things happening at La Sierra University, amen?

Amen, there are some good things happening at La Sierra University.

Now I wanna share that youth rush is just 1 of those good things that is happening there.

We have a team of cold porters, for those of you who don't know what a cold porter is, it's 1 of those crazy people that goes door to door and tries to do what the Jehovah's Witnesses and the Mormons should be doing.

I guess it's kind of like the counterfeits.

You know, we know that for every genuine that God has, the devil has a counterfeit.

And so we are there trying to hold up a standard, trying to show the community what the true gospel is.

And so we've been there for a number of years.

We have students, If you maybe have any friends or dare I say children over at La Sierra University who would like to earn their way through school and at the same time be spreading the 3 Angels message through 1 of the appointed methods that the pen of inspiration has given us, You can join the Youth Rush program over at La Sierra University and you can make a huge difference.

We're having Bible studies taking place, we're having lives being changed, and it is just powerful to see what God is doing there.

That's 1 area of the department that we work with.

The other area that we work at that's very exciting is what we call full circle ministries.

And that is another way of explaining what we do as Bible workers, where we go to a church and we'll be there for an entire year and have Bible workers at the church.

We'll have training seminars, we'll have a globing there, we'll have a number of different kind of trainings and outreach programs and things like that that the church can get involved with, but then it's capstone with an evangelistic series.

How many of you guys are excited about evangelism?

We just finished off our series in San Diego, California.

He was so good that we did not know what to say.

We were kind of expecting this much, and the Lord delivered much more than what we had expected.

And the last area, the area that I'm excited to share with you about this morning is the area called GLOW.

And yes, as Carlos shared earlier, I'm the GLOW Director for Southeastern California Conference.

GLOW stands for Giving Light to Our World 1 Page at a Time.

This morning I want to share with you guys something that I like to call the butterfly effect of literature evangelism.

But before I pray, I always ask of 2 simple requests everywhere I go.

Would you be willing to entertain my 2 requests?

I tend to have the quality, whether it be a virtue or whether it be something negative, I tend to talk quickly.

And generally my experience has been when you talk quickly, you generally say more things.

And the more things that you say, the greater chance there is to say something foolish.

Have you ever have you ever found yourself with your foot in your mouth before?

You wouldn't be able to believe it but up until this moment I've had a sore throat.

I've lost my voice and but I believe that God is going to be supplying the strength that is necessary for that.

And number 2, I have a simple request that you would pray for yourself.

It has been my experience that when my heart is not in tune, maybe I didn't spend the time in devotions or maybe I've just been distracted this week, it has been my experience that when my heart is not ready, oftentimes I miss the blessing that God had wanted me to have.

Perhaps you've been to a church program and you go there and you just leave as if like, what was the sermon about?

You know, My dad gave me a good piece of advice when I was really young.

I've had that chronic fatigue problem that would happen every time you came inside the church building, you would fall asleep.

Some of you guys know what I'm talking about, so I'll be keeping my eye on you guys today.

But he would tell me, why are you sleeping?

And he says, Justin, Justin, Justin, he says, something I've learned in my experience is that every sermon you can at least get 1 good thing from.

Whether it be your best friend preaching and you love to hear them speak, or 1 of your favorite pastors or evangelists, or maybe it's just some random kid who's up in the front like today.

There's at least 1 good thing you can get from that.

So number 2, would you pray for yourself that you would not miss the blessing that God has desired for you to receive this morning.

So number 1, pray for me, that God would use me to communicate a blessing.

But number 2, would you pray for yourself that you would be able to receive the blessing this morning.

I'm gonna kneel and we'll have a quick moment of silence where you can pray for those 2 things.

Father in heaven, I want to ask you to take control of my mind and my voice this morning.

Lord, we have not come here today, me especially, we have not come here today just to hear me speak but Lord we have come here today to receive a blessing on your Sabbath day.

And so Father bless my words and Lord I pray that you would bless those who hear my words.

Lord, ultimately, if could be, Lord, they would not be my words, but they would be your words.

And so Father, we pray for a miracle this morning.

Lord, we know that you have spoken through the saints of old.

And Lord, we ask that you would do the same thing for this sinner this morning.
