Hello friends, Pastor Doug Batchelier is away this weekend, but this is a live, interactive, international Bible study.

And if you have a Bible-related question, we would love to hear from you this evening.

But why don't we start the program with an amazing fact.

The record for hiding away from family and friends was made by a young Chinese college student by the name of Cheng Lim.

He was studying engineering at the University of Michigan, but was doing very badly in physics and math.

If his studies did not improve, he would have to leave school, quit his job as the janitor at the Ann Arbor First Methodist Church, and take the humiliating news of his academic failure back to his father who was a school teacher in Singapore.

Finally, 1 day in October 1955, Cheng disappeared.

His friends, including the Reverend Eugene Ransom, pastor of the church, called the police, but they found no clues.

Cheng's Methodist friends had another mystery to ponder, strange bumping noises that came out of the church at night.

Early 1 morning, 4 years after Cheng's disappearance, a pair of private detectives called by Reverend Ransom heard a trapdoor to the church attic slam.

Together with the police, they climbed up and they swept their flashlights across the attic.

And there, crouched above them in the rafters, was Cheng.

For 4 years, the attic of the church had been his home.

The bumping noises had been Cheng skipping rope to keep in shape.

During the day he slept on padding from a pew and at night he walked around the church and helped himself to food from the church kitchen.

Physically Cheng seemed unaffected by his homeless experience, but As the police hauled him off to county jail, his four-year preoccupation with loss of face suddenly vanished.

Well, did you know, friends, that the Bible speaks of a time when the devil will be forced to sort of live the life of a hermit.

The Bible tells us in Revelation chapter 20, beginning in verse 1, Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.

And he laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, and cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished.

But after these things he must be released for a little while." So here we find the Bible speaking of a time when the devil is bound in something called the bottomless pit.

Now if you study that subject out, you actually discover that the bottomless pit is really a reference to the earth in a broken down desolate condition after the second coming of Christ.

Now Pastor Cruz you're new to California and you've just joined the Granite Bay Pastoral team right here and so we work together we are colleagues at the church.

Prior to you coming to California I think you've been here what about a month if that?

Okay prior to that you were doing pastoral work and where were you located?

I pastored in Michigan for almost 7 years.

All right, and I know we have a number of folks who listen in Michigan, so some of the people might even know you from that part of the world.

But we're just delighted that Pastor Aaron is with us and joining us.

He's also got a wonderful wealth of Bible knowledge.

And so he'll be joining me as we answer these various Bible questions and looking them up.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the opportunity to be alive today and to have minds to think critically about what your Word says.

Lord, open our minds to hear your answers from your Word this evening.

All right, well, Pastor Aaron, let's go to our first caller for this evening.

All right, we have Phillip from Arkansas.

Phillip, hi, welcome to Bible Answers Live.

There's a prophecy in Hosea 6-2 that's part of an interesting passage there, But I was wondering, have you guys ever applied that to end time prophecy, especially if you assign 1 day for a thousand years?

Let me read it, so those of you who are traveling in your car, you might not have your Bible in front of you.

Hosea chapter 6, verse 2 says, After 2 days he will raise us up, and on the third day he will raise us up.

After 2 days he will revive us, I need to add.

On the third day he will raise us up, that we may live in his sight.

Now, it's interesting when you look at this prophecy here in Hosea, we have a time period after 2 days and then on the third day we'll be raised up.

It's a reference to Israel, that's the most immediate context and deliverance that'll come to God's people.

But I think it's quite clear that this is a prophecy not only related to literal Israel but it's also a prophecy related to Christ because Christ rose from the dead on the third day.

It's also interesting that I believe Hosea, Pastor Cruz, mentions that Israel came up obviously as we know out of Egypt but there's also a prophecy with reference to Christ and it says I called my son out of Egypt and of course we know Jesus when he was still a baby just before Herod slaughtered the babies in the area of Judea that Joseph directed by an angel took the family down into Egypt and then Jesus was brought up out of Egypt.

So we see a parallel between ancient Israel and we see a parallel with that in the experiences of Christ.

In particular, we have a prophecy that refers to Christ's death and his resurrection.

Of course Jesus, also speaking of his death, he says, tell that old fox, speaking of Herod, that I work today, tomorrow, and the third day I'm perfected, or completed.

So we do have a number of references, but I think this is a clear reference here to the death, burial, and crucifixion of Christ.

Yeah, I get what you're saying, but if you apply a day for a thousand years to it, you could see where the third millennium would be after 2, 000 years since Christ's baptism.

We would be starting that third millennium when Jesus would raise up.

Yeah, I think you're onto something for sure.

You know, Peter tells us that 1 day with the Lord is a thousand years, and a thousand years is as a day.

We know the earth is inhabited for about 6000 years, and then Jesus comes, and then we have that 1000 year millennium, or that 1000 year Sabbath, and we actually spoke about that in the opening.

So we believe that we live in very close to that 6, 000 year mark and soon Jesus will come and for the redeemed they will be raised up.

So I think you can apply this prophecy to final redemption, as well as to Christ.

The Silence Is Telling

Now, Here's your host from Amazing Facts International, Pastor Doug Batchelor.

Hello friends, would you like to hear an amazing fact?

An anechoic chamber is a very carefully insulated room designed to eliminate all sound.

Orfield Laboratories in Minnesota has built what is listed as the quietest place on earth.

A chamber so quiet that the longest anybody has been able to bear it is 45 minutes.

It's 99.99% sound absorbent and it holds a Guinness World Record for the world's quietest place.

The inside of the small room is lined on all 6 sides with deep fiberglass wedges, a double wall of insulated steel, and 1 foot thick reinforced concrete.

Inside the room it's so silent that background noise is actually measured in negative decibels.

It is so quiet you'll hear your heart beating, your stomach gurgling, I hear that anyway sometimes, and your bones grinding.

But the room isn't just for torturing people.

Companies rent the room to test their products and to find out just how loud they really are.

Even NASA has sent astronauts there to help them experience the absolute silence of space.

You know, Pastor Ross, sometimes when you live in the city and there's all this background noise you long to find a place where you can have a little bit of peace and quiet.

Even if you get out of the busyness of the city and you go to the country, you find a quieter place, but you still hear the wind blowing, you hear the chirping of the birds and so on.

But a place where there is absolute silence, you can understand why somebody can only be in there for 45 minutes.

Yeah, they used to call them, I think, isolation chambers where it would kind of isolate you and separate you from all sound.

For some reason, that sounds attractive to me.

Some people, when it's totally quiet, it unnerves them evidently.

I'd like to take the test here and see if I can make it more than 45 minutes.

But you know, it makes me think about a verse in the Bible that talks about silence in a place where you wouldn't expect it to be absolutely silent.

In Revelation chapter 8 verse 1 it says, he opened the seventh seal and there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.

Now normally in heaven you figure that the angels are singing, you know, the vision that Isaiah had of God on his throne.

The angels are crying out, holy, holy, holy and in the presence of the Lord you just picture there's going to be this awesome music and to have that you know They say the worst thing you can do in radio is have what they call dead air.

That's where you have no sound and people will change channels.

In heaven to have dead air, it says about the space of half an hour.

Well you know it's interesting, you do find these different time periods in Bible prophecy and the Bible tells us as a principle when interpreting Bible time prophecy 1 prophetic day is equal to 1 literal year.

So scholars have done the math there are 360 days in a Hebrew year 24 hours in the day so you divide 360 by 24 you end up with 15, 15 days which would be our time, but here the verse says they silence in heaven about the space of a half an hour, so you would need to cut that 15 day and a half.

So 15 days prophetically would be about an hour.

Then a half an hour would be, well, 7 days, about a week.

Now why would it be quiet in heaven for a week?

Well you'd think it would be quiet in heaven because something very important is happening.

And we know that when Jesus comes the second time, he's gonna bring all of the angels with him.

And if there's anyone else left in heaven, I'm sure their focus is on what's happening here on the earth at the second coming of Christ.

So the half an hour of silence in heaven is really taking place in the future when Jesus comes the second time.

And it's at the end, I guess it's the seventh seal.

Well, that makes sense because it does say there in prophecy that when Christ comes, it says he's coming and all the angels with him, not some angels.

So if all the angels that sing God's praise in heaven are gone It would be quiet now.

It is interesting if there's 7 days of silence in heaven Well, that would mean that it would probably take about 7 days for the journey from earth back to heaven I don't think it takes 3 and a half days for Jesus to come with the angels and then 3 and a half days to go back because you know angels can travel at the speed of thought.

So I would assume then that Christ and the angels come quickly to the earth and then the journey back to heaven takes about 7 days.

Well, we're looking forward to what the Bible calls the blessed hope when Jesus comes again.

And there's several references to the second coming in the prophecies of Daniel and revelation.

Yes that amazing fact was actually perfect for the question I have today, and as I always say, I'll try to be concise.

In general, my question is, what is the role of the range of emotions when it comes to worship?

And I know we tend to, you know, try to be more reserved in church and more reflective and solemn in church, but is there a role for the emotion of excitement?

I'm trying to figure out what's the biblical balance for the 2.

You know, when you read the Bible, you'll find examples.

Well first of all, let me just set a big context for this.

In 2019, contractors in North Yorkshire, England, were renovating someone's kitchen.

After prying up the old wooden floorboards and breaking through 6 inches of concrete, they unearthed a glazed cup similar in size to a soda can.

In and around the cup they found 260 gold coins dating between 1610 and 1727.

The coins were likely hidden there by Joseph and Sarah Fernley Masters, a wealthy merchant couple that once lived in the house and evidently didn't have much faith in the local banks of their day.

The estimated value of the treasure is more than $290, 000, which had helped pay for the remodeled kitchen.

And I don't know what you think, Pastor Ross, and they'll have some leftover to bury under the floor.

That's right, maybe for the next person who buys the house.

But you think of all of the hard work that they put into trying to gather this treasure and then they bury it and evidently they didn't pass it on to their children or they died tragically, they forgot about it.

You know, many years later somebody uncovers it while they're remodeling their kitchen.

If they could have used it for the benefit of others at their time, wouldn't that have been better than just burying it?

Yeah, it's sad when the people, they hoard money and they think they're making at least, you know, pass it on to their heirs or something, you know, give it to a foundation.

But this got buried and discovered centuries later by strangers.

And I think there's actually a proverb that talks about that.

And Jesus tells us in Luke chapter 12, verse 16, He spoke this parable to them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully.

And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, since I have no room to store all my crops?

He thought a little bit, and then he said, This is what I'll do.

I'll pull down my barns, and I'll build greater, and there I'll store all my crops and my goods and I'll say to my soul Sold you have many goods laid up for many years.

Take your ease eat drink and be merry But God said to him fool this night your soul will be required of you then whose will those things be for which you have provided so as he lays up treasure for himself and is not rich towards God you know it's an amazing parable here you have this person who has been blessed and they think well I'm going to hold all of these blessings to myself but in reality would have been better if you used it to build up the kingdom of heaven.

I'm reminded of the other verse Pasadag that says lay up for yourselves not treasure on earth but rather in heaven and where your treasure is that's where your heart will be also.

So the principle that we find in the Bible is that there is an investment that believers can be involved in that actually earns dividends throughout eternity.

And you know it is true, and I don't want to sound like a prosperity preacher, but there is some truth to the scripture and the principle that with what measure you meet it will be measured to you.

And Jesus tells us that if we are generous that Men will heap into your bosom.

God says if you prove him, test him when it comes to tithe and offering.

He says see if I don't open for you the windows of heaven.

So even in this life it's more blessed to give than receive because it seems like blessings ricochet.

You know a lot of people are wondering what are the biblical principles for money?

As you mentioned, Pastor Doug, there's some confusion even in the Christian world as to how we ought to use our resources.

It's called In God We Trust and it deals with the subject of money.

Jesus said quite a bit about finances and how we ought to use money.

I have a question in regards to Ezekiel chapter 4 verse 9.

I'd like to find out if that has any relation to the Ezekiel bread that is sold today, and verse 12, if that has any relationship to do with verse 9.

Yeah, well, some people have taken the verses here in Ezekiel, and let me read it for our friends that are listening, who always wanna remember that 90% of the people listening to the program, they can't maybe look it up right at the moment, but it says here in Ezekiel verse 9, and this is a prophecy that came to the prophet Ezekiel from the Lord, Also take for yourself wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet, and spelt.
