The Wars of Religion - Lessons Learned

Well, my family went on vacation to Europe.

And when I was planning this, the last couple of months, more and more people started to say, hey, let's go on that trip with Roger.

So planning 14 people on this trip, yeah, 14 family members, They didn't realize at the time, but I turned it into a great controversy tour of Europe.

So we're gonna talk about that today a little bit.

It was a great trip Until about 3 hours before we were scheduled to leave out of Krakow, I got a text that said your flight's been canceled.

So we got rerouted and I'll tell you that the trip back to California, to LAX, was like the resurrection.

Number 1, because as the plane lifted off, it felt like we were coming off the ground and we were going home.

And the other way was that when we arrived at our destination, we didn't have any baggage.

Next time you get really upset about the fact that you're baggaged, because when you get to heaven, you're not gonna have any baggage anymore.

All right, so, by the way, you should have air tags.

Put them in your baggage, you'll be able to tell where your bags are immediately.

Real quick story before we begin and pray.

So I'm sitting on the plane in Munich, supposed to go into Paris so we can get our flight, we need a connecting flight, and I'm sitting there in the very back of the plane, it's a 3 and a 3, on the aisle, I'm sitting on the aisle, my wife and my daughter to my right, my youngest daughter, Ashley, is sitting right in a row ahead of us on the left, right on the aisle.

And it's Air France, and so, you know, the lady comes on, bing bong, she says something in France, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.

And I hear the people on French going, oh, they're groaning.

And then she says it in English, and it's like, excuse me, your attention, we are flying to Paris, and the airspace over Paris has very bad weather, and we are in restricted, so we are going to be delayed for 50 minutes at least.

So me as the adult, as the ones who's sort of leading the trip, I'm thinking about, What are we gonna do?

I'm going through all of the things in my head, okay?

Because adults have power to do things, right?

3 minutes later, lady comes on again, says something in French, then she says something in English.

She says, oh, we just checked, and they said that the restriction is gone, and we're gonna start right away.

My daughter, Ashley, right in front of me, she turns around to me and she says, Dad, I guess that's the power of prayer.

And I started to realize, this is exactly what Jesus is saying when he says we need to be like kids.

Because when we are like kids, we are powerless.

It's like, we are adults, and because we're adults, we feel like we can do, but who should we turn to?

Dear Heavenly Father, please be with me today as we go through a lot of information.

And it's a message that I think is really important.

Please help me to deliver it and to keep me on track.

Okay, so there's Ashley right there on the aisle.

See, we should pray that this microphone works.

Please pray with me because I've got like 100 slides, okay?

And this is a message I think is really, really important.

So let's begin because this is something I really want to get through.

We're going to go through 300 years of French history.

And I'm going to give you what the lesson is with those 300 years.

Theodore Roosevelt is not French, but here's the thing that I want you to make sure that you understand.

The more you know, he says, the more you know about the past, the better prepared you are for the future.

His nephew, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, in his 1933 inaugural address says, so first of all, let me assert from my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert, retreat into advance.

Let me give you a quote that is even better than that 1.

We have nothing to fear for the future except we as shall forget the way the Lord has led us and is teaching in our past history.

You know, I know that there's a lot of Reformation tours that you can take to Europe.

I'm going to give you today a personal Reformation tour that you should never forget.

This is right out of the great controversy.

So the first part of this is we're gonna go over the history of France, and then I'm going to give you the lessons that are learned that are applying to us today.

It says that there is a time coming that is unlike has ever been on the planet.

So that means that we can say, what is the end gonna be like?

It's gonna be like, and you can name something in the past, but then you can add to it, but it's gonna be a lot worse.

When I tell you what the stuff that sort of went on in the French Revolution and how that happened, it's gonna be quite enlightening.

So this is primarily out of chapter 12, and chapter 15 of the Great Controversy.

The Roman Catholic Church were coming out of the Dark Ages.

They were controlling the monarchy, and the monarchy was controlling the people, but also there was this reformation of the people called Protestantism, was known as the Reformed Religion.

And this is the reality of how things were.

The problem was is that the Catholic Church saw it differently.

They saw Protestantism as a direct threat to themselves.
