Friendship Evangelism - Part 1

We had falafels and hummus and just all kinds of wonderful things.

And now our bellies are full and our minds are dull, right?

Well, what I wanna share with you this afternoon is going to be just a little bit lower key than what we had this morning, and it's not really a sermon, or it's more of like a training.

And I know Allison is going to be sharing with you a number of the things.

She's probably going to be cringing on all the things I'm going to say today, because these are things she's going to want to share with you.

She can share them again, because you'll probably forget them by then.

Now, how many of you are medical students here, or nursing students, or nurses, or some kind of medical something, anything medical.

And part of my, part of the thing I'm going to say to you today is going to be for you as well.

Now this is certainly not everything that I'm going to say today, but a lot of it is in here, some of it is in here, and you'll be able to follow along.

I can see that I didn't put page numbers on this.

I had to put it together at the last minute.

But if you look about roughly halfway through it, it says appendix.

So I apologize that I did not get page numbers on here.

I made a new document and copied and pasted what I wanted in there and I neglected the page numbers.

But if you look in that little section, There's a number of resources in there I put there for you.

I have some community surveys that you can do in your neighborhood.

You can go door to door, knock on the door and tell people you're with Advent Hope, which is a youth group that's looking to help improve their community.

And you can, you know, ask them, you know, you have a, if they have a few minutes, you'd like to ask them a few questions.

And you'll find that many people are open to that.

You just move on to the next person, right?

So there's a few surveys, and there is a community health survey that you can do.

There is a church visitor canvas, and I'll probably talk a little bit about that today, but how do you visit people that visit your church?

Let's see, there's a six-point invitation plan.

There is, I put evangelism resources at the top.

It's various places that sell these products that are wonderful for using in evangelism work and training, so you can, there's a sheet there for you and there's a number of things back there, You can explore those later on.

What I want to talk to you about right now is towards the front of your syllabus, your little handout here, and it's on page 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

Page 6, if you're counting from the front, I really apologize I forgot to put the page numbers.

So it's called Friendship evangelism, section 2.

And we're gonna talk a little bit about how can we connect with people outside of your little circle of friends.

And friends are great things to have, but sometimes when we only talk to our friends, it becomes difficult to reach out to others who need to have Jesus as their friend, right?

And many times we have friends that all know Jesus and that's great and that's wonderful for support, but sometimes God calls us to step outside of that, right?

God wants us to step outside of that and reach out to those.

Now I would go to, I would venture to say that right here on Loma Linda campus there's probably a number of young people that need to know Christ.

How many of you would agree with that statement?

This is the first time I've ever been here so I don't really know but my guess would be that.

Because many places I go I find that to be the case.

And so you don't even always have to look very far for that, do you?

You don't even sometimes you don't even have to go off campus, you don't have to go out into sometimes they're within.

So whether you're looking to reach people within or without, during this hour or 30 minutes I guess, I want to share with you a very powerful potent principle that will really help you reach across any barrier, any difficulty, any obstacle to be able to embrace someone and begin to win their hearts for Jesus.

So let's have prayer together and then we're gonna dive in, okay?

Father in heaven, we thank you so much for this time, and thank you so much that we could spend a few hours together this afternoon studying more about how you have won, you won us to win others around us.

So Lord, give us grace, give us your spirit, and draw our hearts near to you, we pray in Jesus name, amen.

Whatever you learn here today, which we can only learn so much in an hour and a half, but what I want to teach you today, the little bit I'll share with you, but more importantly what Allison's going to share with you the next several weeks, when you learn something about winning souls to Jesus, you become responsible.

Not only do you become responsible, but you also become accountable.

What do you suppose you're being accountable for?

You're being accountable for the things that you've learned, not just to learn them and say, that was just another wonderful informational seminar that I can add to my little Adventist collection in my mind of wonderful information and put it up there beside GYC and all that, but this training is not just another seminar, right?

It's something that God expects you to use in your personal walk with Him to reach out to those around you, amen?

And God wants...if you look around you, friends, there are people everywhere that are perishing to know Jesus.

And it's really sad if you just buy a local newspaper, look in the obituary section, and you'll find that there are dozens of people every day that are perishing.

And Sometimes I'll just buy that newspaper and I'll look at that section and I'll say to myself, did that person know Jesus when they died?

And I look at their life and I say, man, they're really accomplished, but did they know Jesus?

You can be the most accomplished person in the world, but if you don't know Jesus, it's off or not, right?

And we as Seventh-day Adventist Christians, you as young people, you know, God wants to use the Adventist church, but within the Adventist church, we're told that God wants to raise up an army of youth.

I didn't have time to mention this quote this morning, but there's a statement where Ellen White says that God is waiting to fill the young people with His Spirit so that they can do His work of finishing sharing the gospel with the world.

Not only does God want to use the Adventist Church, but He specifically wants to use each 1 of you.

Now, not just the youth, but those of you that are in the medical field is even a finer honing, and God has a powerful plan for each 1 of you.

And look, you're not just going to medical school or nursing school just to make good money You're going because you have a very unique opportunity to reach a particular almost anyone becoming a doctor becoming a nurse becoming a physical therapist or whatever your field may be and God wants to use that to reach the people around you, amen?

So we'll talk more about that here in just a minute.

How many of you are willing to accept accountability?

If you don't, you better jump up and run out now before I start talking because whatever words fall on your ears you're going to be responsible for, right?
