Fighting the Metabolic Disease Conspiracy

All right, I want to just a reminder that yesterday as we were leaving the second session in the morning I asked to pause and we pray for this tent to be fixed and I was very disappointed when I got a message at about 06:00 that we were gonna have to cut dinner off at 7 so we could have the meeting start in the cafeteria at 730 and I said Lord we prayed and I walked to the cafeteria.

By the time before I sat down to eat I heard 1 of the pastors yell hallelujah and everybody started packing up and running down here and I said Lord I should have known you wouldn't fail us I remember me doing a doing a crusade in a place called Frankfield Jamaica in Westmoreland and it was August and the rains were so torrential that it was prohibitive to even have the meetings and before the meeting started this you know like this gonna rain like this every day for the next few weeks and we prayed and said Lord we just ask that you stop the rain a half an hour to an hour before the meetings and let it stay stopped until a half an hour to an hour after the meetings and would you know that every night that that needed to happen it happened We had the meetings unencumbered for the whole time.

And that church out in the middle of nowhere in Jamaica that had 17 members when we got there, when we were finished with the Crusades, we'd baptized I think 76 people.

And so I've learned you can trust the Lord and when he wants his work to go forward God will show up and allow his work to go forward amen lots of cover again so we're gonna get in it it's being recorded even yesterday's we're gonna send the slides so that the ones even from yesterday that our good brother was kind and faithful enough to record you can go back and watch because I know we go through the information quickly but it's because we don't have a lot of sessions and I do want you to get the whole picture of what we're talking about.

Remember I'm a medical doctor by trade, a college professor, a university professor is 1 of the things I do on my side jobs Pastor sweetie, I'll get this joke.

So I always have a lot of jobs So, you know we I'm trying to do it in that kind of a spirit this is a seminar now not a sermon so we're gonna get right into it and into the spiritual meat of the matter Exodus chapter 15 and verse 26 says this and said if thou will diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord your God and will do that which is right in his sight and will give ear to his commandments and keep all his statutes I will put none of these diseases upon you which I have brought upon the Egyptians for I am the Lord that does what?

Our message for this session is fighting the metabolic disease conspiracy.

We're gonna go to Daniel chapter 1 now let's pray but let's go to Daniel chapter 1 father God bless us now as we work through this Lord speak through me and Lord as we go through the science and the scriptures if nothing else help us to see the power that the science supports the scripture.

Bless us to this end we pray in Jesus name amen.

So Daniel chapter 1 I'm just gonna read through these verses you're familiar with them I'm sure.

In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon into Jerusalem and besieged it and the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand with part of the vessels of the house of God which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his God and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his God.

Judah was taken over by Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar won the fight.

Verse 3 and the king spake unto Ashpenaz the master of his eunuchs that he should bring certain of the children of Israel and of the king's seed and of the princes children in whom was no blemish but well favored and skillful in all wisdom and cunning in knowledge and understanding science and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace and whom they might teach the learning and the tongues, a tongue of the Chaldeans.

Verse 5, and the king appointed them a daily provision of the king's meat and of the wine which he drank, so nourishing them 3 years that at the end thereof, they might stand before the king.

They took the nobles and the descendants of royalty, in this case, Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, And what the Babylonian authorities did is, they would then make them Babylonian, bring them in, train them to become Babylonian, feed them Babylonian food, teach them the language of the Chaldeans, have them become Babylonians, so you could send them back to where they came from, and they would rule that place without the Babylonians have to fight to keep it and that's what they were trying to do part of making them Babylonian was to get them to eat a Babylonian diet So this talks about who they were.

In verse 8, it mentions Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in verse 6 and 7.

Verse 8, But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank.

Therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

Daniel understood that this was a spiritual issue and it's not a coincidence that The great prophetic book of the Old Testament begins with this stand.

Of course, Daniel asks the head of the eunuchs if he can get something else to eat and to drink.

And of course, he ultimately, Melzar, gives in.

He says, prove thy servants have beseeched thee 10 days, and let them give us pulse to eat and water to drink.

If you go back to the original language, pulse is actually lentils.

It's beans and vegetables is the full connotation, and water to drink instead of wine, and we'll talk tomorrow about addiction and wine and addiction and alcohol and some other things tomorrow.

Then let our countenances be looked upon before thee.

And so he does this case-controlled study.

Now, when you look at science, 1 of the ways that you test if what you're looking at is real science is that it is not just simple observational studies or the opinions of experts.

In our time, better it be double blinded so that nobody knows what's going on to make the study more valid.

In the Bible, this is how powerful this passage is.

God actually uses scientific method that was not perfected until many hundreds of years later for the Western world at least.

He has a case group and a control group and they're compared and of course the Bible tells us all about Daniel I'm gonna go to the part here where it says it and in all matters of wisdom and understanding that the king inquired of them he found Daniel and the 3 Hebrew boys to be 10 times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in the realm And Daniel continued even until the first year of King Cyrus.

After the 10 days, they were fairer and fatter.

And of course, the Bible says, makes this connection that in all matters of wisdom and understanding, they were better.

This speaks to cognitive function and that the diet that God outlined is the 1 that best allows our brains to function.

This is relevant because as we're going to talk about in Sabbath school on Sabbath morning, the real battle of the great controversy does not take place simply in the celestial realm.

Angels are fighting right now over what's happening in here.

Ellen White says if we could see the battle that goes on between the good angels and the evil angels, we would never leave our houses.

Now, as relevant as that is, in many ways it's secondary to the fact that what Satan wants to control is your mind and your heart.

And so it is what happens in the frontal lobe as we talked about yesterday I'll elaborate on more later on what happens there is what is relevant for salvation Isaiah 118 says come let us reason together says the Lord though your sins be as scarlet they shall be white as snow if you cannot reason you will forfeit salvation.

And reasoning means understanding your condition and what God has to offer.

That's why in 2nd Timothy chapter 2 and verse 15 and 16 Paul says study to show yourself approved unto God.

There is actually a command that we study.

It is literally impossible to be a Christian and not be a student and like I said yesterday a scholar of the Word of God because it is the Word of God that is the only offensive weapon we're given when when we're told in Galatians, in Ephesians, sorry, about the armor of God.

When Jesus is attacked by the devil, he says, it is what?

If you don't know what's written, you have no defense.

Here's what the scripture says, Exodus 15 26, if thou will diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord your God, will do what is right in his sight and will give ear to his commandments and keep all the statues I will put none of the disease up in thee which I've brought upon the Egyptians is this is this a factual thing well it actually is we they are now have studies and this is from the Journal of cardiovascular imaging that there was atherosclerosis in the Egyptian mummies in Horace's day Evidence of metabolic disease in the actual mummies of that time.

You can see here, it is aortic, at the separation of the aorta down here.

You can see all of the atherosclerotic plaques.

This is what causes heart disease strokes.

This is what causes erectile dysfunction.

It is the little tiny vessels that lead to feed the cartilage in the bones of your vertebra that get clogged up.

It does not distribute oxygen and remove waste, it causes the back to become debilitated over time.

As you can see up here, you know, There's the iliac artery, the abdominal artery, coronary artery, calcifications, all found in mummies.

I love when archeology, history, and scripture all come together.

This is why Jesus said, I can raise up rocks unto me to be sons of Abraham, because the archeology is that profound.

When you look at it, the historical distribution of atherosclerosis in the mummies actually lines up right to the time of the Exodus the time when Jesus told them that if you do what I say none of the disease of the Egyptians will come upon you is the time when they find the most atherosclerosis in the Egyptian mummies and remember what the Egyptians later of the children of Israel later asked for we want back the flesh pots of Egypt.

The history and the science shows God's Word was exactly accurate when it spoke about this.

So today we are the modern-day children of Israel And 1 of the things that has happened that has shaken up the nutritional and scientific world is Dan Buechner's book, and now if you have not seen his documentary on Netflix, it's worth looking at it, worth checking it out.

They highly look at Loma Linda, California.

In fact, some of the pastors and friends I have in Loma Linda are in their 80s, still living a wonderful life.

And of all of the 5 blue zones in the world, Okinawa, Japan, Ikaria, Greece, Sardinia, Nicoya, Costa Rica, and Loma Linda.

Did you know Loma Linda is the longest living of the 5?

It is the 1 that came up 5 miles or so from where McDonald's started And if you've been to California, you know, it's not the it's not the healthiest place So while McDonald's was started to feed the world poison the people of God stayed faithful just 1 town over and to this day it is 1 of the most powerful witnesses in America of our message.

You see they call us a cult but when they call me a cult I say listen you find me the cult that has this data Because clearly something we believe about the scripture and how we ought to live pays dividends.

So there's a lot that you can see about it.

This is when Dan Butner, the guy on the far right, Bill Maher, has a TV show on HBO.

He's a very avid atheist, but he's very much into whole food plant-based living, living clean.

But Dan Buechner went on there and showed him the data on the blue zones and told him, and Bill Maher asked, how is it that there's a blue zone in California, 50 miles from here, from Los Angeles, on the I-10 freeway?

Dan Buechner, the guy on the right, says, they are Seventh-day Adventists.

Bill Maher takes the papers in front of him, you see there, and he throws them down on the table and he says, I quit.

He was so angry as an atheist that with all of the way that the political, in America, the political left is far more likely to be plant-based than vegan, right?

I don't like the word vegan, it's whole food plant-based is a better word.

But it was Christians who actually have the data.

And we're gonna talk about why tomorrow because the trust in God and New Start is still the most important part.

They might have the rest of it but they missed the most the key ingredient.

And then Dan Buechner does something profound.

He starts to quote the Bible verses as to why we as Adventists eat and live the way we do and he quotes Genesis 1 and verse 29.

I would show you the clip of the video, but Bill Maher doesn't always use the nicest of language.

So I can only explain to you what happened.

Know God, Know Health: No God, No Health

Fortunately, there was no windstorm last night, so we are able to just jump right in today.

We have 2 very rich presentations to do before lunch.

So our scripture reading for this session comes from the book of Proverbs the third chapter.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding.

In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths be not wise in thine own eyes fear the Lord and depart from evil it shall be health to thy navel and marrow to thy bones our message our last in the health series is no God no health no God no health why trusting God is healthy let's pray Father God we thank you for this opportunity to study your word once again and I ask now Lord that you just pour out your Holy Spirit upon this place and use me as a vessel Eric Walsh needs not be seen or heard now Lord we need to hear a word from the throne room of grace this is our prayer in Jesus's name amen so in Mark 5 in verse 25 is the story of the woman with the issue of blood.

Mark 5 25 says, and a certain woman which had an issue of blood 12 years and had suffered many things of many physicians and had spent all that she had and was nothing bettered but rather what happened to her?

When she had heard of Jesus came in the press behind and touched his garment for she said if I may touch but his clothes I shall be whole and straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up and she felt in her body that she was healed of the plague and Jesus immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him turned him in about in the press and said who touched my clothes Now you got to imagine this story.

There's a woman who's been 12 years dealing with an issue that she has what we would call today in the medical terms menomotorrhagia, meaning she had a constant flow of blood from her uterus.

I don't have time to get into the details but 1 of the problems with this is she would have been perpetually, ceremonially unclean.

Her husband would have left her probably within the first year or 2 of the problem not going away.

She would have been ostracized, and she would have been unclean, so she couldn't go out into crowds.

She would have had to shop when no 1 else was looking.

This was more than just a physical disease.

The desperation of her situation is stated in that everything she had, she took and spent on physicians.

In many ways you could argue she got worse.

Having an issue of blood for that long in itself borders on the miraculous.

Because women in general have a lower hemoglobin hematocrit count than men do for starters, but for her to have a constant losing of blood like that would have meant that she stayed in a perpetual state of anemia.

She would have been perpetually physically weak.

She would have always had the issue that she was fatigued and worn out.

This woman was living a very difficult life.

And the Bible just gives no hint that the problem was something she caused herself.

The truth is, as we talk about our health message, disease exists in the world because sin exists in the world.

There's a lot we can do to prevent disease but like when you study the Prophet Elisha he died a painful challenging death of a disease yet Elisha healed others and even brought the dead back to life.

When this woman hears that there's a man named Jesus who can work miracles she sets out to meet Jesus but you have to imagine it would have been difficult by now she has no resources with which to travel her physical body is in a weakened state and as she gets near a crowd she knows that she is supposed to cry out that she is unclean.

Instead, with whatever little bit of strength she has left, this woman pushes through the crowd and gets close enough to Jesus so that she can just touch the hem of his garment.

You all know the story from the hem is where there was a tassel and she was able to just reach and grab that thing.

Immediately, Jesus knew something happened.

Now remember, he was being pressed on from all sides, but her touch was different.

And I want to submit to you that if you are going to be healthy, and I do not just mean healthy in that your cholesterol levels are good and that your complete blood counts are good and that you don't have high PSAs and other tests that we run for screening because all of that is important but you're going to be healthy in a way that leads to eternal life, You've got to have the kind of faith touch this woman had.

So much so that Jesus turns and says, who touched my clothes?

What kind of a Christian spiritual life are you living?

Have you had an encounter with the Savior such that he would stop and say, who touched me?

The disciples of course thought he was crazy.

I can imagine Peter, when Jesus says this, turning and looking around like, what is he thinking?

Thou seest a multitude thronging thee and sayest thou who touched me?

Let me tell you something, there's a lot of people who get close to Jesus and never actually have an experience with him.

And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing, but the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him and told him all the truth.

Remember, by the laws of the Pharisees, she's not supposed to be, and even partly from the Old Testament, she's not supposed to be in a crowd like this.

That's why she tried to slip away quietly when she was healed.

That's why she feared and trembled as he fell down.

She was worried that maybe Jesus would say, what are you doing in your condition in a crowd of people?

She fell down before him, told him all the truth.

I love what Jesus says to her, daughter your faith has made you whole.

I want to submit to you that what we're going to talk about today is the scientific look at 1 of the aspects of the New Start program, or New Start acronym that we use as Adventists, Trust in God.

Here are all of the different parts, and I submit to you that not only is it at the foundation of all of the tenets and precepts that are listed here, trust in God is the secret to being able to do all the other pieces.

It is trust in God that gives us the strength to be temperate, to have the right nutrition, to get out and exercise.

All of these things come from trust in God.

Now, it is also relevant, trust in God, because it's relevant for those who would be living in the last days.

It is the piece or 1 of the pieces of the New Start acronym that is most relevant if you're going to survive the last days.

Because Luke 21 and 26 says that in the last days, men's hearts will be failing them for fear.

If you trust God, the end time will not bring you fear.

In fact, as the sister was just saying before she did that beautiful song in our song service, the truth of the matter is, If you trust God as the signs of the times are being unfolded, you don't get afraid.

As you see these things happening, the rise in senseless violence, these are the mass shootings in the United States.

Do you trust God when these things happen you know in America now when you get a job if you come to America to work and you get a job and a part of your orientation is a training for what to do if there is a mass shooting even our churches the conference had when I was in California conference had us had to have the police department come in and train us during divine service on what to do if a mass shooter walked into our church.

There are many now who avoid crowds after the last Super Bowl victory.

The Kansas City Chiefs had a parade and there was a mass shooting at the Super Bowl celebration parade just a few months ago.

This fear of these mass shootings as they increase are something that the world is worried about and it is an aspect of our health message that we must not miss.

We live in a world where people are anxious and just like when we give them instruction on eating vegetables and fruits, nuts and grains and seeds and beans, when we give them instruction that faith is protective to help it is 1 of the strong parts of our gospel message you see trusting God is important because God designed your mind I'm gonna talk about this tomorrow in Sabbath school but we have been given very powerful minds, and this is why the great controversies actually fought not just in the universe or the atmosphere or wherever, it is fought here in our hearts and in our minds.

So powerful is the mind, it is something called the placebo effect.

There's even a thing called the Nuss-ebo effect, but I won't get into that today.

And it basically says that if the brain thinks it's getting something, it can actually make the effect of that thing happen, even if you didn't get the thing you thought you got.

Here's a study, I'm just gonna show a couple graphs from a study on albuterol, which is 1 of the main beta agonists we use for asthma.

And so, you know, asthmatics, this is the inhaler that they walk around with.

And this is to show you how powerful the placebo effect is.

50, it's almost as good as the albuterol itself in this 1 study, along with a fake acupuncture.

You can see here, the placebo effect, again, was as good as the fake acupuncture.

And here's where you see kind of the albuterol worked a little better.

But look how many people, if this is 100 people, 7 and a half people would have had a positive effect.

And the spirit of prophecy, Ellen White tells us that there are many people who are sick simply because they will themselves to be sick.

Like a medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones if you are going to be healthy You have to have the right mindset and attitude if you're constantly complaining murmuring angry if you cannot find a way to find the bright side of the situation and you're always miserable, you will never be healthy.

The Bible says that a merry heart, a happy heart, And what makes the heart more merry than trust in God?

So let's look at what the research says about this principle of trusting God and how it affects health.

And this is gonna go from the superficial down to the more in-depth.
