The Spirit of Love

Our Father which art in heaven, I wanna thank you dear God for being so good.

We're not for grace, work will we be Lord.

And Father as we study your word, I just ask that you would please speak.

I pray, Lord, that you would do a miracle, something that I cannot do.

I pray that you would custom make this message for every individual in whatever circumstance they may be in this morning.

Lord, you know what every 1 of us is going through.

You know us by name, you know the number of hairs that we have on our head.

And so Father, I just pray that you would please speak to each person.

May we leave this place in all of your love.

1 of the worst experiences that any 1 of us could ever experience is a car accident.

How many of you have ever had a car accident?

This church is filled with people that don't know how to drive.

You know, I was 2, 3 weeks after I got my license, just 2 to 3 weeks after I got my license.

2 to 3 weeks after I got my license, I was listening to some music.

I was with a friend, and I have a green light.

I still remember it was right next to Montecito Graveyard cemetery, and I remember I'm just passing through there and all of a sudden a guy runs a red.

And I swerve out of the way and as I'm swerving out of the way I just lose control And the car goes and it skids off the road and it goes off the road and it knocks down a tree.

And I remember the first thing that went through my mind when I was going through that accident is I am in trouble.

You know, I just got my license 2 to 3 weeks ago, and I just totaled, literally totaled my dad's car.

And I remember I didn't have a cell phone.

I got a cell phone after I graduated from high school.

So I was able to, my friend had a phone, able to find out where my dad's at.

My dad came and I remember the whole time, I was just thinking, what is my dad going to say?

And I remember when he gets there and he sees this tree that's knocked down, this car that is totaled, the first thing he says, I hope you have enough money for this, I'm just kidding.

The first thing my dad says is, are you okay?

He did not spend time looking at the car, evaluating the car.

My dad went straight to me and said, son, how are you doing?

And immediately I forgot about the fear that I had and 1 underlying thing hit my heart like never before.

And the only thing he cares about is how I am doing.

Ladies and gentlemen, we all have had accidents in life, But the accidents that each and every 1 of us have gone through is far greater than totaling a car.

The Bible teaches that the wages of sin is what?

And the accident of sin within ourselves, ladies and gentlemen, causes us to lose life.

We are all subject to death, we all deserve to die.

But Ladies and gentlemen, do you understand what happened?

God is not interested on the things that we have wrecked.

God is not interested on the things that we've messed up.

God is interested in 1 thing, and that is you.

I know that's bad, but I want to know how you are doing, and so I'm gonna come down to this planet and die for you.

Ladies and gentlemen, when you read the Bible, there's 1 underlying theme that should struck your heart like never before.

You should recognize, yes, I'm a sinner, but I have a greater Savior.

I have someone that is interested in my well-being, in my soul.

Ladies and gentlemen, this morning, love is 1 of the toughest subjects to talk about.

John, a man that walked with Jesus for 3 and a half years, tried to describe the love of God.

In John chapter 3 he just said, behold the love of God.

I cannot write out how the love of God is.

And so this morning it is my sincere prayer that we will see the love of God.

That we will be transformed by that love.

Now ladies and gentlemen there is something competing for your heart this morning.

There is something that has been competing for your heart.

You have God's heart, God's love that has been competing but there's something else and I want you to hone in on that with me this morning.

Go with me to your Bibles to Galatians chapter 5 where we see the fruit of the Spirit.

Galatians chapter 5 we're looking at verse 19.

There is something competing for our heart, competing for our attention.

We're looking at Galatians chapter 5 verse 19, and when you're there, let me hear a hearty happy, I'm awake this morning, Amen.

Galatians chapter 5, we're looking at verse 19.

All right, I still hear some Bibles turning.

All right, Galatians 5, we're looking at verse 19.

The Bible tells us in verse 19 of Galatians 5, listen to the following, Now the works of the what?

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these, adultery, fornication, uncleanliness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envies, murders, drunkenness, revealings, and such like of which I tell you before as I've also told you in time past that they which do such things shall not inherit the what?

And so there's things in our flesh ladies and gentlemen that are competing for our hearts.

And the Bible says that those things are in us we will not what?
