Father in heaven, Lord we're thankful today for your word and we're thankful for not only your word but what springs forth from your word, from the scriptures and for science that really wouldn't exist without your word, without science And as we look at the laws of health and the law of God today, as they relate to Daniel 1, we ask that your spirit would be with us in Christ's name.

So the book of Daniel, there's the alphabet of Daniel, the ancient script, the cuneiform script, many archeological things have been found that verify now the book of Daniel.

In fact, for many years, they didn't even think there was a person named Nebuchadnezzar, but then in the 1800s, they found his name all over the place, they discovered ancient Babylon, they saw that his name was on every single brick.

And so you have the Jerusalem and then you had Babylon and then you have up there far, far right up there in at the top, the Battle of Karkemesh.

And this is where the Egyptians fought against the Babylonians and they lost and then Jerusalem was taken captive as a result of that.

These are all now verifiable facts of archaeological history not just biblical history and so God's people from Jerusalem were taken captive into the middle of the 2 rivers of the Tigris and the Euphrates River, so-called Meso, or between the rivers, Mesopotamia.

And we pick up this story now, but it actually, we're talking about it today, but there were 3 different captivities.

Daniel was taken captive, Ezekiel was taken captive.

So you have the book of Daniel, you have the book of Jeremiah, and Ezekiel, they're all kind of contemporaries, and they look at what's happening from different perspectives.

Now we're gonna go to Daniel chapter 1, and open your Bibles to Daniel chapter 1, and I don't know if we have a microphone, if you could take it to somebody to read for us, Daniel chapter 1, verse 1 through 7.

Okay, let's listen to Daniel chapter 1, verse 1 through 7, And then we'll be asking you some questions.

In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, came Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, onto Jerusalem and besieged it.

And the Lord gave Jehoiakim, king of Judah, into his hand with part of the vessels of the house of God, which he carried into the land of Shinar, to the house of his God.

And he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his God.

And the king spake unto Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring a certain of the children of Israel and of the king's seed and of the princess, children in whom was no blemish, but well favored and skillful in all wisdom, cunning in knowledge, and understanding in science, and such had ability in them to stand in the king's palace and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.

And the king appointed them a daily provision of the king's meat and of the wine which he drank, so nourishing them 3 years, that at the end thereof, they might stand before the king.

Now among these were the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names, for he gave unto Daniel the name Belteshazzar, and to Hananiah of Shadrach, and to Meshach of Meshach, and Azariah of Abednego.

How many think that's pretty hard to read all those big words?

Let me ask you a question while you're still there.

What were the 2 great powers that were mentioned, asking him the question, what were the 2 great powers that were mentioned in that reading?

And these 2 were fighting against 1 another, Babylon and Judah.

And as they were fighting, you have King Nebuchadnezzar who's in charge, and what was it that the king was doing to try and win their favor?

How many think they might have felt like they needed some wine immediately after that 1500 mile walk of captivity?

Speak up folks, the people here, are you alive today?

Look at the person next to you, if they're not saying anything, start CPR.

So we have, someone said Meat, or we'll just say food.

So we have food, and we have, let's say, food and we have drink.

So education, that means to lead, or some people say to change the character, care, but if you're talking Latin, which the Bible's not in.

So food, drink, education, and what else?

So kind of changed their, not their pronouns, but their names, so changed their names.

Okay, so you have food and drink and what else?

And this is the setup that they find themselves in.

He gave them food, he gave them drink, he gave them, how much education did he give them?

3 years at what was the name of the university?

Okay, Babylon University, not Lou, Boo, okay?

Not Woo, that's Weimar University, but Boo.

And These folks had to, like I say, they had to walk like 1, 500 miles to get there.

Raise your hand and let's read rapidly so we can keep going.

See, if you hang out with me, I'll buy you a tie.

But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat Nor with the wine which he drank Therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself Okay, Josh question before you leave sure.

According to the world according to Josh?

Is the most important word in that text and why?

Because It's not, it didn't say he happened not to, or he woke up in the morning and just thought, I won't today, but he purposed.

He set it up so that this would not happen no matter what.

He didn't just wake up that day, he kind of premeditated things.

Anybody else, any other words would you say and they'll catch your attention?

Purpose is only once, defiled is 3 times.

If you went by the number of times it's mentioned, this idea of defiled, and in fact, this idea of defiled would have come to the Hebrew mind for those of us in Ireland.

There's a group of about 3, 000 people there that are very into the law of God.

They've been studying the law of God and a number of them are joining us today.

And the reason they're interested in the law of God is because they think it's a little different than the laws that are being passed in society these days.

And so that's kind of what got them interested.

In fact, it's what got Sharon interested when she came to the EQ Summit.
