currently leaving everyone and good to see you here for a meeting and we are continuing furor study in the book of Romans and we will no till about seven forty five seven fifty five rare in our study this evening so while he is not a fair one of her get into your study for the night father in heaven we thank you for bringing us together this week for another prayer meeting and I pray for each person here you have that we'll have challenges and trials on our lives in a prison he would trust and unite you would help us and that we would draw closer E3 the experience is a life out of print now that you would be with us as we study your word of this to have a deeper understanding of your welfare lives and to increase in Jesus and RI search for last week we got through the first sixteen verses of Romans chapter one Romans chapter one is an introduction each to the book up through verse seventeen and then in verse eighteen he starts to lay the foundation for where he's trying to get more this summarizes you key points from our study last week in the first sixteen verses of Romans chapter one and we saw that the first six verses Paul gives a summary of what the key points of the gospel of Jesus Christ our namely that he is a servant of Jesus Christ all those shoes women according to the gospel will also be servants of Jesus Christ which is one hundred percent diversion to your master award Jesus Christ we also saw that the gospel was promised in the Old Testament the first verse that promises the Gospels Genesis three fifteen and Romans one first years reminder of the men we see in verse three the hall says gospel of Jesus Christ through the gospel of God is about Jesus Christ he was the son of God who is also our Lord and he was made of the seed of David according to the force of the very first thing that Paul points out about the gospel which is good news is that Jesus Christ was made of the seed of David according to and we saw the reason why that is good news we find in Romans eight three and for that because Jesus was made of the seed of David according to the flesh the righteousness of the law before enough that's kidneys because all of us as someone fallen short of the glory of God and we see that Jesus is the son of God with power according to the spirit of holiness by the resurrection of the dead and we see that with the gospel we received grace and apostleship and the purpose for receiving the grace of the gospel is for obedience to the faith and then we went through and one of the verses that kind jumped out to me was verse eight where the face of the Christians in Rome was spoken of throughout the whole world and we look forward to the time when our faith will be spoken of throughout the whole world and the power the gospel is powerful enough to produce a people whose faith will be spoken of throughout the world then we get him hee hee time gives an introduction was askew I have my wood for the coming meeting you in person but Naumann and preach the gospel to you here around concerning verse sixteen all this is where will take up the meat of our study tonight we got never sixteen last time the this is won't pick it up this time servers sixteen Paul after he gives his introduction he says for I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the power of God and the salvation of everyone the believe this to the Jew first and also to the Greek now we mentioned this last week they won Paul says he is not a shame of the gospel of Christ the first question you might ask is why would Paul need to say that he's not ashamed of the gospel and perhaps it's helpful to look at the context of the time that he was writing but if you look at what he said earlier he says I'm a servant of Jesus Christ and if your servant of Jesus Christ we talked about this last week another were first served as slave and if you're a slave to someone humanly speaking that invokes this idea of shame that you are a slave below someone else but what Paula sang Ella I'm not ashamed to be a servant of Jesus Christ I'm not a sham to be a slave to Jesus because if he's my Lord what he gives me is salvation and that obviously is good news for those of us reading the gospel through the government obviously there is more shoe he's not ashamed of the gospel of Christ and he says why because of the power of God and that is the power of God and the salvation and so what we see in the gospel is that the gospel has power to save how many everyone that believes to the Jew first and also to the Greek and one of the things that were in SC as we transition under the concept of the wrath of God verse eighteen is that salvation is for everyone God is my respecter of persons and he will also pour out his wrath on all days to don't believe the gospel Sue God is my respecter of persons and what Paul is trying to say is the gospel is powerful enough to save everyone who believes and we will get deeper into the concept of what it means to believe when we get to Romans chapter four one the Bible says Abraham believed God was counted for righteousness what is not me I mean because Jayne strategies is the devils believe and tremble about doesn't mean they are saved so what is amenable leave composites mentions in passing here that if you study Romans formal get into that about what does it mean to believe and obviously the work power comes from the Greek word Guinness which is similar to dynamite said the gospel of Jesus Christ is a just a feel-good story that doesn't change anything it's something that giraffe quickly alters its surroundings just like dynamite is one excellent that's the power the Gospels of lizards which have went through all that last week November seventeen for seventeen says for the fair in is the righteousness God revealed compulsive they are in what is he referring to sir yes a subversive form what's in the verse before the gospel of Jesus Christ so in the gospel of Christ is the righteousness of God revealed so the kidneys of the gospel radio of the righteousness of God so that's good and what about the righteousness of God being revealed is good knees says it's revealed from faith to faith as it is written the just shall live by faith now take a moment to step back here what's is the righteousness of God mean look at the defendant right doing of God and how right doing is God or how righteous is God so God is perfect and so the gospel of Jesus Christ reveals the righteousness of God which is perfect so what Paula sang here is the gospel of Christ is power of God and the salvation and it reveals the righteousness of God so if you just take a look at that one phrase it's not just righteousness is the righteousness of God is being revealed in the gospel left powerful and where it is the righteousness of God revealed fury rest of the resistance from faith to faith Paul using give the illustration of how the righteousness of God is revealed from faith since as it is written the just shall live by faith DC through the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith also has authority been written the just shall live by faith so then the question is based on verse seventeen where is the righteousness of God revealed in the Jess who live by faith that's the power of the gospel so Paul sets the stage here in chapter one he's not ashamed of the gospel of the power of God and the salvation which means in order to be saved we need to experience the Gospel and the gospel is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith as it is written the just shall live by faith so those you are just living by faith reveal the righteousness of God now what is the mean when it says from face to face it gives you the idea that there is a progression and understand point out a couple of verses in Hebrews Chapter 11 Hebrews eleven admittedly is about faith and were studying about what it means to live from faith to faith and that he was a lover 's thirty four Paula thought and others to live by faith he talked about in the violence of fire escapes the edge of the sword out of weakness were made strong West Valley and fight turned to flight the armies of the aliens soon when pulses out of weakness some were made strong how was it that out of weakness they were made wrong and he was eleventh pretty straightforward is by faith that people your we were made strong by faith now twenty five two two one other verse on structure eighty four verse seven yes Psalms eighty four verse seven in this verse says they go from strength to strength every one of the design appears before God so the idea here in Psalms eighty four seven is to go from strength to strength and a simple illustration is in order to gain strengthen your muscles you have resize and your muscle continues to grow in strength the more you exercise is what Paul is saying here is righteousness when the three deal from faith to faith it's been a continue to grow in its demonstration just the strength grows the people and he was eleven they were weak they were made strong and found eighty four they go from strength to strength now one other way to point this out as in Romans chapter five this is familiar in Romans five pulses therefore being justified by faith we have peace with God through Lord Jesus Christ anniversary he goes on to say not only seven we glory in tribulations also knowing that tribulation work with patients and pay experience and experience how hope maketh not ashamed and so forth if you think about this carefully God allows us to pass through trials so that we can develop Haitians and through the Haitians we develop experience and from that experience comes out now when you go through your first trial and rely on God 's grace and strength when you get through that experience have you reached the point of full Christian maturity in your life now you still have a few more things to learn are a lot more to learn and when we exercise faith through tribulation and vacation are faithful continue to grip and so when we were new in the face and God gives us a little trial the righteousness of God is revealed through the faith that is demonstrated and likewise when you go to the very end of the picture window one of the group of people to pastor Jacob Sima trouble and exercise faith the righteousness of God is also revealed their now the question then is when someone was just for illustration purposes let's say that at home one of your family members speaks to you in a way that offends you the way you allow the Lord to help you develop Haitians through that trial and you exercise faith in you demonstrate Christ righteousness and you don't fight back in that illustration in simple terms the righteousness of God is being revealed through your life to your him or now sure here's off author now is think about this for the and that is the power of God very clearly however let's say at the end of time when you go through Jacobs time of trouble which more is the righteousness of God being revealed in those you pass through that experience to humanly speaking can't see any way out and yet they demonstrate her exercise faith through that trial and through that experience the righteousness of God is manifested through which of those two experiences gives a greater demonstration of the righteousness of God sure that Jacob Simon trouble because it's been a be a much greater chance however will God allow you to go to Jacobs trouble if you have about the small intestine yet there so hopefully is this that when Paul says the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith at every stage that the righteousness of God is manifested it's perfect but there's a difference in the level of maturity and that the key point so we can have the experience of the righteousness of Christ now that we may will hopefully ten years from now for having come will have a much more mature experience in our faith with God right if our faith is at the same place ten years from now that is now that's not a good thing and what Paul is saying here is righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith which gives you the idea we will continue to grow in that level of faith and yet if the righteousness of God human righteousness of God is perfect at every stage and you can also think that think about it when the illustration first the blade then the years before corner near the blade is perfect is not ready to be served as corn on the dinner table but it's perfect at that stage soon that's just a thought for consideration now also want to talk a little bit about what it means was the just shall live by faith my innocence she much time on this because we talked about this is less than this however there's a couple of other points I wanted to bring out can you think of HC character in the Bible that is described as being just just go straight to the top Jesus Christ highlight right click the pilot 's wife writes a letter supply have nothing to do with this just man and then a few verses enough Matthew twenty seven years nineteenth amendment Matthew twenty seven verse twenty four Highland says I am innocent of the blood of this just man so the pagan Romans word knowledge and that Christ was a just man and the word chess is synonymous with righteous they mean the same thing obviously Christ was righteous we know he didn't sound second Corinthians five twenty one sixteen new notes and yet because of that the righteousness of God might be found in us so Christ is described as the just man and the acts three fourteen peters speaking to the Jewish leaders in a moment of boldness holy boldness he says that he denied the holy one and then just and desire to murder to be granted on the use of pure heaters Drive Jesus as the job and yet Paul is saying in Romans chapter one seventeen the just shall live by faith now is he saying that this only applies to Jesus Christ now what he is saying is is that the gospel is so powerful that not only did Jesus live a righteous life your mysterious that those you experience the power of the gospel will be just as Jesus was and when I suggest it means righteous and they live by faith and this to Paula 's quoting from the chaptered shoot verse four and we talked about some of us also he also makes this point in Hebrews chapters I thought they would be worthwhile to turn over to Hebrews chapters to see the context of Paul uses the same phrase in a different key starting in Heber 's chapter ten verse thirty five cast not away therefore your confidence which has great recompense of reward or thirty six for ye have need of Haitians that after you have done the will of God we might receive the promise for yet a little while and he that shall come will come and will not carry verse thirty eight now the just shall live by faith but if any man draw back my soul shall have no pleasure in them for thirty nine that we are not of them to drop back in the perdition of them that believed to the saving of the soul that is what Paul saying here him what he says you need a vacation with us half a minute of the third Angels message patients of the same the after you've done the will of God he might receive the promise with the will of God and he restructures its God riding his long hearts and minds of over sixty and seventies of the new cover and also this guy blotting out our sins that is the will of God doing the will of God adversary seven for yet a little while and he that shall come will come and will not carry the fragment of the second coming of Jesus Christ there is also the illusion that it's unitary time of the Millerite movement and yours and then verse thirty seven now the just shall live by faith so what Hall was doing and he were shepherds tennis he's clearly connecting the concept of the just living by faith choose the second coming of Christ so in order to be ready for Jesus the son you must be just and living by faith and that in essence is the third Angels message and it shows up here in Romans chapter one verse seventeen the thing that's interesting we talked about last week that the concept of the just living by faith is the message that God gave to Paul to give to the Romans and it was that message that Martin Luther referred audibly perhaps when he was crawling up the steps and around and he realized that what he was doing was completely foolishness it was salvation by works and he really say the just shall live by faith and so this verse this one verse have the power to start the Protestant Reformation him brought down spiritual or cash papal Rome which are spiritual around which interestingly is to haul roads but Christians that run so the just shall live by faith those in whom the righteousness of God is being revealed brings down the false system of religious worship of Satan and then again at the end of time as that false system is erected again in the market abuses and it's instituted the power the gospel still the power of the gospel in the just shall live by faith will be God 's answer to Satan who thinks he has the whole world wondering after and goddesses but wait a minute here's my group of people to adjust the mala biface or in other words here is the patience of the saints here they do keep the commandment forgot in the face of Jesus so if you think about that way this one verse in Romans chapter one has enough power to save each one of us and it has the power to demonstrate the righteousness of God to the world so that at the end of time when Satan tries to bring in his false system of worship and he gets the whole world of wonder after this system the power of the gospel still the power of the gospel the righteousness of God being revealed in those fewer jobs will still accomplish its work and so that's what Paul was alluding to in his introduction to the book of room and you would sort of sank that after Paul has spent the time to develop that thought that he would go more into the righteousness of Christ that he actually you have to wait so wrong as chapters three verse twenty one twenty fewer heat again talks about the righteousness of God being manifested in verse twenty one is without the law and in verse twenty kids by the faith of Jesus Christ for there you have it how's the righteousness of God revealed in Romans three by the faith of Jesus Christ and in Romans one the righteousness of God is revealed in the just to live by faith and so there you see the cost of the just putting my faith in the face of Jesus Christ a free powerful and I always enjoy making those connections in the book of Romans now what kind of transition which you the foundation that always that makes up the gospel such as kidneys because this all we saw was a Jesus offers us eternal salvation this is often what it is but what Paul does not in the rest of chapter one in all of chapter two in the first chapter chapter three is he shows very careful yearly that each and every one of us deserves the wrath of God in Congress according to the law of God in the time of judgment the only thing we deserve the wrath of God because Romans three says Alderson and come short of the glory of God in Romans six says the wages of sin is death so what makes us think that we can escape the judgment of God when we've all sinned and come short of the glory of God examine you understand that the gospel is so sweet and so powerful so verse eighteen for the him God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who hold the truth in unrighteousness and that what Paul goes on to describe in the next is the unrighteousness of people in the city of Rome would've been familiar with my brothers but that she republics by Ichi Jones and starting around age one oh four one oh five one oh six and one oh seven he describes the type of some that were being committed in the city of Verona things were so bad that men would not marry women because they would immediately get divorced and lose their money and all that stuff and so Caesar had to make rewards for those who actually stayed married and had several children because people didn't want to have children because of you can have children and you can be whatever you wanted to do all sorts of things and surround was getting to be a really really bad place to live and believe it or not Seattle Los Angeles or New York or Chicago you might find some things that are very similar to what's been described right here soon other places closer than outlay for so if you are this is a huge and quoting an author says the higher classes on all sides exhibited a total extinction of moral principle the lower were practical atheists could and careers annals of emperors without being shocked at the manner in which men died meeting their fate the infused tranquility that characterizes these the holy ceremonious of religion were violated or the the control the adjacent islands some of the exiles rocks in desert places stand with client to find murders in Rome itself the theater if orders weren't horrors were mobility of the sentence splendor of fortune marked out for destruction soon based on that picture them with one Paul says the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who hold the truth in unrighteousness verse twenty two professing themselves to be wise they became fools the Christians in around you receive this letter from Paul would appreciate what Paul is talking about a real IKEA those people of the world in this town they are just awful and Paul make it very clear the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who hold the truth in unrighteousness verse nineteen because that which may be known of God is manifest in them for God hath showed it unto them verse twenty for the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen being understood by the things that are made even his eternal power and Godhead so that they are without excuse financial policy here you may run into someone who says you know why I just don't see how there's any evidence that God can exist what Paul is saying is actually every single person in this world is without excuse when it comes to the knowledge of God every single one of us and notice he says that which being may be known of God is manifest in so it's not just on knowledge this is something that inward that every one of us should know that God exists him he is winless once made the statement of the fact that we have a conscience the health of the discriminate between get it right and wrong is powerful evidence of not that God exists I mean if if we are then towards doing that which is wrong how is it that we have a moral compass in a thing don't need out that's not the right thing to be and to deny that that has anything to do with the supernatural power is inexcusable because we all have the opportunity didn't know about God and his power and noticed that Paul says that it's in the invisible things of him from the creation of the world and how they are clearly seen now I'm honest and humorous time on the split one illustration that came to my mind is in my areas of neurology specifically clinical neurophysiology on the science of the nerve action potentials I'll try to get to truck McComb plays on you that this is just one illustration when your brain sends a signal to your body to tell your arm to me that my right arm to me that my brain sent a signal to do that and sent a narrow transmitters that fires down the nerve terminal which Lynch passes through the neuromuscular junction and then activates a muscle membrane the man the way my brain told me about fascinating enough but if you understand the physiology of nerves what God did was he created a mechanism called the refractory period so that as the narrative action potential propagates down the mirror him for fracturing was there the nervous such that is not to go in a forward direction the impulse to go backward and forward and then when you have is complete utter chaos with how your limbs and arms and fingers may view would be like all over the place but the very fact that there is like a one hundred millisecond refresh three means that there can be that yes which means that the impulse can go backward and only go forth as Kennedy will your body your brain told your arms indeed now you tell me that out of chaos came that order halfway out by an that's just one example of who knows how many is that through the invisible things of creation we are without excuse another power of God 's clearly there and so the wrath of God 's entity for out against all those who deny that our members twenty one says because that when they knew God they glorified him not as God neither were thankful but became vain in their imaginations and therefore sharp was darkened and we all remember the verse aforesaid in his heart there is no God knows what occurs is when they knew God they glorified him not as God there's some imagery of the first Angels message here not give glory to him these people did not glorify God therefore there can see the wrath of God and it's interesting that in the first Angels message part of the messages give the Lord in the hour of his judgment on and here's a group of people who didn't give glory to God in their nephew the wrath of God and the judge there is a contrast verse twenty two professing themselves to be why they became fools we all were also familiar with the versus is the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom so here's a group of people we often fear of God they say in their heart there is no God so they certainly don't fear him once again they receive the wrath of God in the judgment first twenty three they changed the glory of the uncorrectable God into an image made like to corruptible man and birds and four-footed beasts and creeping things so it's interesting that in the first Angels message you have a concept of God as creator and these people change and God into a created being like a corruptible man or birds are four-footed beasts and creeping things which he's referring to the idolatry of the pagan Roman Empire and then referring to it in verse twenty four wherefore because of all of this God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their hearts their own hearts to dishonor their own bodies between themselves and the verse twenty five is key who changed the truth of God into a lie and worshiped and served the creature or the creation more than the created for who is blessed for ever in an notice what they did here there is the clear concept of the truth of God and these unrighteous people change the truth of God that God is created for that he has all power and each they changed the truth of God picture and to know why and then they worship and serve creation more than they serve the create for social look what happens here when you deny the power of God the first thing one of the first things that you're in the Kenai is that God is creator when you do not think God is created for your denying this power and we get to Romans chapter forward to see that when Abraham believed God and was counted to him for righteousness what he believed in Genesis fifteen Doctor announces Haywood at the start of Abraham and Abraham remembered oh yeah God made the restart peace create work he can create Isaac with me and Sarah even though it's humanly impossible and those you don't believe in that they wouldn't have had the faith of Abraham therefore they wouldn't have received righteousness therefore they would be facing the wrath of God and the judge and here's the key point if you don't believe that God created the way the Bible says God created you will not be able to exercise faith that is essential to receive the righteousness of God in the judgment it's impossible if God doesn't create the way he says he creates them he doesn't have the power to change your life the way the gospel says it does and so if you start accepting things like theistic evolution or evolution altogether in reality you're not a Christian but the bottom-line you may think you are according to the Bible the power of God in understanding this power starts with the understanding that God is creator that's a key point about the last few versus order to summarize what happened when we deny God and his power is Creator Hungary three three twenty six for this cause God gave them up unto vile affections for even their women did change the natural use in the lab which is against nature are twenty seven and likewise also the men leaving the natural use of the woman burned in their lust one toward another men with men working that which is unseemly and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet him needs the what this means I mean you can be a third-grader revisits universes and figure out that the Bible is condemning homosexuality and I get concerned when I see seventh at the same that we should be tolerant of that behavior in our church because the Bible clearly condemns and it only makes sense of the same set of the mischievous sense of that method deny that God created the earth in six literal days it goes together so he read Romans one hey God and create years in six literal days the next thing hey what's so bad about homosexuality and while just about to the violence of the Bible 's and Sue pretty straightforward verse twenty eight and even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge God gave them a richer reprobate mind which also means a mind wouldn't judge to do those things which are not convenient verse twenty nine being filled with all unrighteousness fornication wickedness covetousness maliciousness full of envy murder did the deceit malignity whisperers writers haters of God the spiteful proud boasters inventors of evil things disobedient to parents without understanding covenant breakers without natural affection implacable unmerciful purser each issue knowing the judgment of God that they which commit such things are worthy of death not only to the same but have pleasure in them that do not figure the long list of unrighteousness homosexuality unrighteousness fornication wickedness covetousness maliciousness and so forth I mean this is like reading the headlines from the news today that notices disobedient to parents without natural affection unmerciful and then knowing the judgment of God that they which commit such things are worthy of death which is the wrath of God not only do the same but have pleasure in them that do him or not here's like my oncologist now with a hammer you do all these things and you are now facing the fear the wrath of God in the judgment and yet the Christians and round to get this letter liking up those people in Rome that you're talking about I totally agree with you Paul they are again on burn in the judgment and then you get to check achievers one impulses way to Matt Yep those guys are bad that if your sending of the Christian does not respect her persons in the judgment will come to you as well and all of a sudden the playing field gets leveled because your kind of thing that I command I'm so glad that I don't commit adultery and that I'm not a murder and I've never even thought of going out and shooting people the mound the spinach is becoming more common scary they hail you how I don't commit fornication am not a liar in whatever all those things and how much of the wicked over there and brown them Paul says in a remortgage of this next week you think you can escape the judgment when you're breaking the law and not as well you may not be going out and killing people that if you're breaking God 's law you know that you are same end result create and so the beginning of Romans starts off like him I'm a sinner horrible how is it possible that obviously the power of the gospel is in a calm and in chapter forces hey Jesse and a cure is a human being to have the experience his name is Abraham and chapter five just so you know even though Adams send Christ effect on our race is more powerful than Adam Saddam with Adam bringing an him on from there so there is good news the one you get started what we see is God is my respecter of persons you can pour out his wrath on wicked and not just on those few totally deny God as Creator mega view all these horrible things that we know are clearly in Scripture but if we know what is right and we don't allow the power the gospel to come in our lives we are subject to the same judgment as the wicked so having said that let's make sure that we experienced the power of the gospel in our life so that when the time of judgment comes will be ready in just as reminder God raised up seventh Avenue to give a judgment our message so that we won't tell the world of the good news is everlasting gospel so that people don't have to receive the wrath of God and in his great mercy to us and to the world guy gave us the three messages of mercy so those are worth further study as well have a connectionism will continue to get sick at this point Oregon a breakup into prayer groups again to finish our firm meeting I would encourage those of you who have special current request to bring those up in your group and we will spend some time training and other I'd also encourage you to think about ways that God is convicting you have things in your life to pray for those things as well as we had our special prayer time so this time let's break up into different groups of figures of three or fourth Arroyo my fingers the five and six of them it takes twenty five minutes to pray and it's more efficient to have groups of no more than four on and will wrap up here at eight o'clock said it's been great for prayer
