Where is Your Excuse

Lift up the trumpet and loud let it ring, Jesus is coming again.

Cheer up you pilgrims, be joyful and sing, Jesus is coming again.

There is a place of quiet rest near to the heart of God, a place where sin cannot molest near to the heart of God.

O Jesus, blessed Redeemer, sent from the heart of God.

Hold us who bow before Thee, near to the heart of God.

Who is it that has not known some time of anguish or sorrow.

We can all find sympathy in these comforting words, God understands.

He knows the tempter's power, and he will walk beside you however dark they are.

I have heard of a land on a far away strand, in the Bible the story is told.

Where cares never come, never darkness nor gloom, and nothing shall ever grow old.

In that beautiful land on a faraway strand, no storms No storms will their blasts ever frown.

The streets, I am told are paved with pure gold, And the sun shall never go down.

There's a home in that land at the father's right hand.

There are mansions whose joys are untold.

And perennial spring where the birds ever sing and nothing can ever grow old.

Here now is HMS Richards, the voice of prophecy speaker.

You've been late to school for 3 successive days.

Did you bring an excuse signed by your parents?

Friends you may have known the rest of it.

The boy had no excuse signed by his parents because he had left home early enough to be in school on time.

But he had played along the way, having a good time with some of his friends.

Now, as he stood there by the teacher's desk, he was face to face with the judgment.

A real excuse is always accepted by reasonable people.

Any court will accept this excuse, I was not present, I was in another city at the time of the offense.

A real alibi is a justifiable basis on which to acquit a person from responsibility for a crime performed at such a time and at such a place.

The universal practice for those who really have no good alibi is to begin to make excuses.

They concoct reasons why they should not do their duty, as did those people mentioned by Jesus in the fourteenth chapter of Luke, who with 1 consent began to make excuse—excuse that they could not come to the supper to which they had been invited.

The first had bought a piece of ground, he must go and see it.

The second had bought 5 yoke of oxen, he needed to prove them.

Strange how these men waited until after they had completed their transactions to find out whether the land was worthwhile or the oxen fit to buy.

The third said, I've married a wife and therefore I cannot come.

The excuses of these people in Christ's parable were much like the excuse of an elderly man who was once asked if he was right with God.

In sort of a joking way, he answered he had a reason.

Years ago, he said, I lived in Ohio, and 1 day 1 of my neighbor's children was sick.

It was 6 miles to the doctor, so I went to the minister of our little Crossroads Church and asked if he would let me have his horse to go for the doctor." Well, sir, what do you think?" He refused.

Then I went to the blacksmith and explained the situation to him.

He said he had just come in from a long drive, but he guessed his horse could stand 6 miles more.

"'Now, ' said this man triumphantly, "'you see how I stand?

The little experience settled the Christian religion for me forever.' "'All right, ' remarked the friend who was talking with him.

"'Just answer 1 question.' "'Well, sir, I'll try to.

When you come up before the judgment bar of God, as sometime you must, will you tell that story to God?' The man's chin dropped.

He looked down at the floor for a moment.

Then you'd better be prepared for a better argument for that great day.

The only 1 that will avail then is that the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses you from all sin.

Men often accuse 1 another as though that were an excuse for their own disobedience.

A young man I know was writing a letter to a young lady, making excuses for certain acts.

His grandfather, knowing of the situation, said to him, Son, before you put down a single sentence in that letter, think how it will sound in court.

And we might ask, how will some men's excuses sound in the court of heaven?
