But I think you should have to know we had this week to go over to different techniques and stuff so help us today to learn how to do making cordage that we need when we're out there so. The Holy Spirit help us. Retain all the stuff we need to supreme his need. Want to take just a moment and let you guys know that we do go to different churches if you guys like and do seminars there as well. I want to tell you that there's 2 different options if you'd like to do that if you'd like to come to your church 1 of the options is if you want to do it just for your church then what we're doing is the information that we've had here but a lot of churches we offer another little thing and. If you guys like do it for an outreach and invite the community then we'll just do the actual wilderness survival series and I don't do the Alawite stuff I do throw some scripture in there net and I tell everyone that even if they're not a church group. If I can give God a plug and I don't want to do it. And so there's 2 options and. The church is so far sighted Alicia's do to reach because all the stuff at the ad slot is still there. With the exception of we don't get in so much with what she tells time and so what we do do that and so if you think the church might be is. This the gal here. And see she does she does all my scheduling I used to do my own scheduling and then I didn't schedule enough for her time for it so I got trouble I said Well I'll tell you what let's do this the other way you will have her do sketches and in that way if it gets tight Well my 1st. Question back here. OK The question is Whereabouts in Arkansas do you guys know where Fayetteville is so over on the west side and down a couple counties you it will and south of there about 40 minutes there's a little town called Brentwood and if you turn and go up the mountain a mile and 3 quarter atop a mountain there's a little church up there Larry Smith a pastor so that's where we're going to be doing so I don't know if anybody should really with return if you close your eyes when you go through you're going to miss it. So that's where we're going in Arkansas. So today we want to cover some court each and you're always going to have something that you're going to need to lash together tire you know even if you break your shoes they you know want to replace that we've been talking about using your shoe laces for Cordy's which can do. Some guys in a pinch to use their shoe lace for her motor elbow got fired that way if you got a good shoe he's. With the flat line probably make it. So we you know he's our kind of think you know if you're going to lash I'll lean 2 together if you're going to do a race bad road over you know you're going to have to have Courtney edge to do that so there's other kind and we can totally exhaust the whole cordage thing today there are things that will cover today that are in the basic that we get into a dance show other types of Cory's that we did a good chance to cover today so Matt here he's already told me like to get into the event. I'm out of excited was somebody else is excited about the hobby that I've been excited about for 30 years or so anyways but today we wanted to record you know Ray here he's going to show us how to make some court each stinging nettle and he's going to show you 1 technique that you can use to make small string. You cannot use the technique he's going to show to make bigger stuff. So we'll show another technique after he's done and you can use that technique now when you 1st look at the. Race isn't too bad when you look at what. I'm going to show in mine and both of us of experience people can't quite wrap their head around that then once you finally get it you're going to go well that's easy. So it's not to anybody here ever been in 1 of my seminars. Out if you. Remember cordage and when you 1st started out you know but then oh I get all this is yeah this is easy so anyways. Normally this session will go ahead and make some but today with this group is so big and such an area and when we go out beyond here in an hour there's no way we've done everything clean up get out of here and for the next 1 so we're not going to do that but if you come to a hands on or another seminar then we can get back into that and do that so there is great here's going to show us how to do stinging nettle and how many of you the minute I say stinging nettle and make cordage you can experience yeah OK good you know at least you got the idea that you need to know this a certain way or or you're going to pay for it so theory here a he's going to show us how to do that he's over in England. The next. Stinging nettles. Just about wherever they grow. Something I insist is. Very long. With practice and a little bit of confidence you can quite easily clean a stinging nettle without getting stuck just with your bare hands. To grow. But if you have a lot of. Her. You didn't have. That gets very surprised. When you have a lot to do it is a good idea to wake up just because the whole process. To get the 1st thing to do. He's. Gathered quite different so we put in the words. Of her green. Ones with. Better manners and. Something. Bendish in the middle of the day which is on the inside. And away from the others. Index finger. You see the pit and the away from the hive us. He says the fibers are very strong they need to be drawing. Into Kodesh with many they could be used just as they were and this is the way we use the fibers in the Curry gram on Aboriginal to attach the. High bit just as it is. Straining useful by a. Good strong. Somebody gobbling the something to types and onions or what's happened in the garden and having some string to hand look at the help and use a skill. You don't have to make string just pipes together like I just twist them and use an impromptu tie. And. The procedure makes training for. Growing spiders. Because they can shrink. When these are little just like it. Because they really. Need a lot of nettles. And just to show you how to pick up a new twist you. Might find a nice. In a bend. Take the mick point I'm going to roll. But I think the straw in the same direction at the same time like this and at the end of the row. Against my thigh so they won't. And then I let go on the left and you see twist up into Cohen what we do is we just hard stuff in English twist. And the thing is up to where the apostle. And repeat curse us and you see how we're starting to get a string now. And then we're going to get to an end as well as mention and someone. Number for them because despite this type 1 of the strengths of stars become. And if we don't add in a new function upward simply record. And little strength so what we do. And look at now passed round the right sort of consent how they take that and we lay it out alongside the Strand which spinning the most and twist in the final and we carry on as before and we can write as long a piece of coal as we need we like on that we have patients. Flavors that you can use for your shows here in the screen. And I'm always check in stuff you know or fell over and so trade off some favors just are not right and it's crackpot order so you can make or you know. There's a lot of we can do so. Yeah even in a very little. And they make sure we've got a whole bunch of here on the table and they're all from different types of forces we have to be in there we've got some grass in there and we also have some tree bark and we also have some roots some of the spruce roots that was used successfully we talked about those here to talk about so. It. Kind of is a pretty good overview. Look at this 1. Sort of the. Research is. Small trying. To. Figure stuff. Might. Lead us to rope it was about the. Use. Situation. In. 2 shoelaces. So we're going. To. Do a. Twist. And it is easy to. Do. Like this. Teacher that. So we used. To. Twisting together. If I was to take. The stand. And Saxon. Twisties to go. Do this it would be twice. Physics. Street. As this twister you know I actually get more than twice what it takes to. Too. So this is a thing as. Well do. You hear. Uses for. Cash or the Bush. 40 we're. Going to. Teach you. I mean it. Says. He says he's. Sure. This is the. This. Is. This is. No. May. Be 1 of my choices. So you see this is. The strands go. Well. First. You see. This is. Twisted. To do so. It really struck. Me. As well. This is as well. As together. 2 strands to series. War. 2. 2. Or. 3. Do they have. A strong. Single stream. This is. Their. This is. They used to. Grab. My. Shoes. So. He. Does the chief thing stuff just a slew of. Horse. By. When you're up here or there. We go. There is a story. Just. These are. So you know. This group. Very. Much Julian. With. Other. Samples I do have with me and so I actually look and. We can do that. We talked about the bar there for a little bit and I said you know use ASH and we'll. Probably add with the ash trees yeah scores come through and heard you must be straight out of our adult trees and in order to do corded you're going to take young trees cordage and so I'm not using Nash anymore because John was need to grow up and adultery so a pretty much going to allow but ash can wear. Situation that's all you've got and you really have to have something you know I. Think Mother Nature really she got that so it's an amazing thing to bark. Hyannis. I want to tell you a little story now you guys are going to be the only ones that appreciate this story and actually this is my daughter and I are in and when they were moving my son and I were we had his truck and a trailer full of stuff. And the trainer had a tarp over it and then we had my vehicle and it was awful and we had about 40 minutes to go to get to where we were going to go and it started raining and his start on the back end was doing this number and stuff was going to get wet so I got on the phone right away and said you know we had to some tire down so that you know your stuff you know so we pull over to the side of the road and he says Vollard through my vehicle my stuff and so I started looking through mine and and both of us looked through everything we had and we had nothing that we could tie that turret down. You know vehicles our Santa resetter Old Scratch and I go on you know what are we going to do and there was a whole bunch of grass there that was dad and so I just reached down and spoke some up started twisted and and got a piece are all about this long and we use it tied it down and made to 40 miles we had to go course purpose pull and enough that are not got so tight we can untie it we had to cut it but you know that's a full story that you guys appreciate I could tell that somebody else may go Saul. So anyways you know to take the techniques that you learned here you know you may not even be in a survival situation but comes in handy. NET situations. So there is on Imagine a ash tree. As I've done at the ash where that comes through and it's just pretty much devastated everything you know they've been trying to keep my U.P. and I see the destruction up there least in the lower parts when you get up higher in the U.P.D. the winners are cold enough that it kills the grubs off so at least they're still less trees up there you know maybe after they finally died off here we can go bring 6 little ones down to replant here you know that I still see a I still see a lot of young ones and for some reason they don't hit the young ones but they do at the adult ones they've pretty much wiped out all of our. Street I see of once in a while I see a little group and I'm excited because there's a group that's made it so far I mean you're still there so so anyways I. Want to mention that with the ash trees what we are learn what is here with this reverse twist I kept talking about and what it ends up doing is as you end up roll it up and then you're roll the 2 around each other and same time. And what that does is the reverse twist and it ends up twisted in such a way and turn in such a way that as it tries to undergraduate unravels against itself and modern rope through and done that way too when you look at that you know you gave it to hang heinous you see modern robes same way and in again I mention because you know if you just rolled 1 up and if you took the pressure it took and snapped on because they're going around the corner it's not straight I actually get more power out of it than what you do if it's straight on and so the reverse twist actually is more than twice the strength of American wanted So let's take a look at this. Carry on is. Really easiest. Learn thrashing. Of East or. Grass. What you twisties 1 twist on. Sure. Sure sure. And so we don't do these dry because of the Easy. Stuff. So. If. You know they're saying. Or you. Do just so until the. Easier. You. Do. To see to it. And so. We're going to show you. So we go. To both 16. Do is a stair ways to us away from. Seeing. Is there a twist left in the hole. Is a twisted way. Twisted way. Twisted up like this until starts to get to where it was. Going. I think they're in there. Now to work with these. 1 to go up 1 down and the other goes. To be on the back so I. See them you. Know what I do. There's a tape and you of a you know I'm a grandma. Grandma close because you get. A situation. Way for me and then I'm a poll this to me in the same. Thing and these 2 are going to trade places. And then they put to me in the bottom 1 because the top 1 and the top 1 because. Then they just redo their process over. Again so I 2 is so way for me. To me. There with finger and becomes the top because. We do it again. To you. And after you do they do. A few times and then you see. Saying actually base. See. Lomu do. This out here. And. Show you the and see straight. Share ideas. Only easiest. Thrashing. You still is. What you twist these things to twist it. Sure. Sure sure. So we don't do these dry because of the Easy. Stuff. So. If. You know they're saying. Or you. Can. Do just so until the. Easier. To see to it. And so. We're going to show you. We go. To both 16. Do as a sister always twist and wait. To see. When you twist left hand the whole. Twist away. You know they're very twisted twisted ways. And twisted up like this until starts to get to where it wants to lose. That point. Like they're in here. Now and work with these. 1 to go up and down. And the 1 that goes up. To be on the back so I. See them. Back know what I do. As I take a new 1 a you know I'm a grandma. Grandma close because you get. A necessity. For me and then a whole list of to me in the same time the bottom of my finger and these 2 are going to trade places. And then they put to me and the bottom of them because the top 1 and the top 1 because. Then they just redo their process over. So I too was so way for me. Too me. There with me finger and becomes the top because. We do it again way to you. Because. Now after you do that you do. A few names and you see. And then when you. Turn you know your twist and the 2 together OK that's what you do and when you twist the 1 that's it you go roll in the water up and then when you pull them and twist your twists in the 2 together to make your verse tears. Well show you a little bit of table. Or so. And see. What number do is there go ahead were this out your tie come to. Show me how you did the single string. Yeah. OK yeah add a piece in to a single strand. OK see you have. A nice piece of Kurdish areas. How come to the end here. We know this. Stuff on and. On so again. You have the keys in here the idea is you bought both of these strands to stay the same size if 1 strand is smaller than the other. The little round the big 1 any more you twist you big. And you know the score. So you know I may share the same size so there's my smallest entering in there so what I'd do they're trained for in a piece has 1 of the same size in this and you see the 2 ends here this is actually seems. So it is indeed and I've already wet this piece. So 1 of you do that and then the piece. Into the piece of marrying you can lay those right next to each other. And do skate twisties together a few turns now I'm going to go. And do marry her 1st 2 as her about 3 or 4 of the turns now Carol are this new 1 in here and then I'll go over now and keep it outside and show you what it looks like. We come back into. So I'm going into. My purse the way over to me and the bag comes. To us that way to me this. 1. Pull this 1 out there and continue on with just the new 1. Goes away from being close to me. See. What we do later we come back as we made. In the. Words 1 thing I want to be careful there's a to go. Good courage make sure coming we're nice. If you're going to. Hear we're in a mood you know I. Know really well. Actually. He's single strand Now there are some corgi juice poachers. Into a single string of. Cat tail and when you go to add in there it gets pretty cumbersome to really buggy and heavy load and what you have to do there is more that you're going to add into the taper. Down to a point. And then the 1 you're going to have Did you take that fine and then you put those 2 together and how the sides is about the same you need to associate. Taper those down. To The together with pavers twisted together continue. Do more than. 1 Go to the other. And actually you want to. Do. This as well yeah. Actually we trimmed. Pretty good. You know that is continue on and you have to. Say you do a single. Cordage. You could use this to have something that's how you had a single 1. Lead To together with some $23.00 or 4. Other And. Continue. To just continue and you know you're. Right. To do those. It's going to. Looks pretty weak. And it's pretty awesome. I think timing Logan. And it's a little bit easier and. It's more forgiving. It is. Easier to use. When you. Say. All. Those up in the bag. You just continue just like you did with saying. Nice. Little twist. You. Sure. You know if you. Go. Any way. There's a difference when you do. With rope. Did smaller singles. Goes to go. Here. The size here. You know. This too. Right. I did not mention the video there as you see what this hand is doing when it's twisted in than its turn and the other hand every time I do 1 of these moves moves up moves up OK so I hold it with this 1 and every time I make a twist and they move up and hang on to that so so. Over in Africa their tribes over there that ever of eans that they want to cross some of them are really really deep and every year they get to replace their bridge and they make their bridges out of grass and then I have a master weaver and everybody every family has a certain amount of grass that they have to go collect and get it to the master weaver so that he can weave you know some of those are big around you know to go acquire that ravine. So say what you have to break this fall and so. Some of that happens so I want to give a few minutes here for any question answers and then we can move to the table with samples 1 of the things I did cover here on this table is a sin to and somehow I've misplaced my soon to samples the center is a little different in that you have to pound it in order to get the fiber separate and then you can use those once you get them separated and that's out there so so I do have a little bit with me but I don't have a full gamut of show and tell sunu So any questions OK what's going to take as well as green. In the very tip star turn brown that's when you on our cat tail. And 1 of the things I learned because I had heard a cat tail you know it's a rush and they used to make a lot of stuff out of Rush you know years ago and so I had heard this and so I figured try some cat tail 1 of the things that I like to do and I'm trying to dry something out at the throat on a dash of my car and then at sunlight coming in but that does try things on hurry you do now I dry cat tail in a hurry. Rectifier and so I got it all done and I soaked it and I want things just fell apart and I go this is good and then my wife and I were up at the bridge and you know we were checking out some of the stuff there and I saw a book. Cat tail and then they had a bunch of people there that were doing old time skills and this 1 guy had a stool that was really old and the whole bottom was made with cat tail and cattle work out what am I doing co-judge still student myself you know so I think I mentioned to you guys I drive a country life and I had made delivery and there was a bunch of cat tail right beside the road and it was perfect you know the tips. We had some and I threw it in the back of my truck and it was in there for a couple weeks in the dark. It just dried slowly and when I soak all that worked really good. So we can't tell ya know make sure those tips are turned around OK which you're going to do here shortly and then you go and hire a sow's but then Drum Slowly and then when you soak those you gotta soak those for a long time. Here's where my wife was. Usually. You know. Yeah. We're we're doing a seminar by the way. I had some show and tell for the next day and so I had brought some of the leaves and we were so committed she is that see it so then I twisted the other so so anyways. You know. Your cat tail works really well it's a good 1 OK. I don't have any Yucca. Samples here but Yucca really strong that's a good strong 1 and some things you actually have to pound even Jaco would be 1 where you could pound. Some of those sites all that they have in Africa and stuff. And it's got a really thick stream a 5 years inside but you have to separate it from all that other stuff and you do that by pony and a lot of them over there make their bowstrings out of that. Phase 3 favorite dry No no twist sells. I give you a wild ham for they have a very good cyber. That's what they make a lot of rope out of you know it was him. Any other questions everyone make here. You know. I hate say this but today's our last day and so if you have questions about anything else we covered today's the day. So he question. Blackish basket you pound part the rings of the tree now do you do the same for using the fibers for the rope as well. Treat You said the black ash tree an asterisk. On the ash tree in a well you know on a. Strip the actual you know the tree bar actually has 2 layers are going to have your side layer which And the young trees are the ones you want you know you want like this big around and especially if you can find some they grew really fast barks the best OK and you're going to take in your scrape that green. Side layer off. And then there's going to be another layer before you get to the wood and once you cut your piece you want to go ahead and get your bark off if you let it sit for a few days seals itself on there and you're going to get off the plane and when you harvest. Your limbs you know your little ones at that same time you're going to go ahead scrape all the green off and then you split and any of peel married off there and it's good to do 1 satins run and like right now you know if you wait till fall then they get pretty tough to try and get it off there it's not impossible that it's a lot harder right now and have saffron are a good you know you can peel right off they're pretty easy so so then what you're going to do with that. Is you're going to corals up in you're going to put them in some water and you're going to dump a bunch of wood ash in there and you you're boiling for a while. That's the way you do tree bark it's on D.V.D. There's well. You know we always. Call the in the use savages you know these guys just savages and somehow I mean we are chemists Today that figure he sings was somehow they knew that they are Colline in the wood a hash would soften their bark so made it more pliable so they could use it. And there are a lot of things if they taught us. We got here. You know maple syrup we talked about that they taught us of to be served you know they taught us how to grow corn or maize something so you know they're really smart people they've got all kinds of skills that I've seen that they just shake my head you know we didn't even touch on glue you know that they had the kinds of glue and we have carbon based grooves today well so today. They would take the tree resin from the painter he's you know they would melt that and they would take some coal out of their fire and he would script that make her put then you'd be surprised all sudden it sets that is a really hard glue and today we are chemists and I just kind of wonder if you know because they've tested some of the artifacts and we found they figured oh this is pine resin with carbon and look at the performance we get out there anything wonder if. We had the whole of carbon based coups today it's anybody's any other questions. OK. You know I have found things both ways on that 1. There is a group of plants that I have that I didn't have time tarball you have survey OK we have the poisonous ones and we have the edible ones and then we have a group that I call not poisonous but Hurley other who because their taste OK Reg revolves or they have heard this nonpoisonous but it is so bitter that it's not plentiful and so I haven't tried it myself but you know but ragweed is 1 of those that we saw to the dark sun screen yesterday there's a 3rd dark called bitter dark and see here today there was a lady who was in the class had taken some eyes we do a walk around we ran into some bitter dark and I told him I says this is 1 of those that is not poisonous but it lives up to its name and it's really bitter and she says so I can eat some of the so you can't put it in so she grabbed it she was yeah that is pretty bitter. So there are some things that are not poisonous. But you really are not allowed to so some of your we talk about mustard mustard is. There no more poisonous mustard whereby the soles mustards are not the just it's just can't stand that. So anyways there was so much stuff that I could say the wild out of those presentation yesterday many you got the D.V.D. and that's almost 3 hours long and the companion CD that goes with there's almost 700 pictures on there I took pictures for 2 years in order to put all that he other so so anyways you know it's quite a bit on there that we just never recover here so. Any other questions well have you guys learned anything this week you know and appreciate it thank you guys for having me here and my wife and giving me the opportunity to share with you you know this is my hobby you know and my hobby is something that's going to be good for God's people you know I mean you are right here I mean you look at current events and there's no way. You know back when I was a boy some what happened and also not here my folks come alerts come you know but today it is 1 event that's happened and there's a handful of events every week it's happening there Kay And so we're right there you know or rate there you know. And sav school class here I think of last week or you know as last week. And I mentioned you know Daniel's image you know and in your chapter too and we've always had a phrase or we're down in the toes and I think we need to revamp that know or rate on the edge of the toenails OK that's where we're at right there Herb. To be at the end of that so and I'm you know I guess. I have mixed emotions because I'm longing for the Lord to come but you know we've got a time period that we've got to go through that lawyer says it's going to be a little shaky going to be rough there's going to be stuff going on that we can't handle and again just like we started with Sunday Lord was us to turn our eyes to him. And get him off our own inabilities to handle that stuff and then he'll handle the stuff for us he wants to be here Big Brother. And so I'm I'm willing to let him be my big brother because I know our king and all that stuff OK we go on back here. He's gotta turn it up. OK 969 you're in a well what we were in a row here in this club excuse me OK OK And what I learned then I used through all 30 years of Pathfinder night talking heads out of a wild plants and so you have covered a lot more and I haven't really pursued doing it but I want to know if you have learned it wants it will come back to you the Lord will bring it back to you just like with a Bible if you've read the Bible sue or read topics you know Instead it don't be discouraged because God can bring that to your memory and he wants me 1 sister do is to be informed but if we lose that it will come back when we need it. So don't be discreet You know I know somewhere around 150 species while the tables and I tell people it's really difficult to walk across a field and not find something that you can eat it may not be your favorite but. It's almost impossible so go out learn your plants and stuff so well I see we've got 1 minute and that's enough time for prayer so let's go and bark and stare and father I think you pretty tough too to have this class and there's many things that we spit out here many things that they're going to have to learn and so we have soul the spirit to go with them and in we encourage them to practice things because that's where really becomes something that you know a lot more once you do that so encourage them and help them to remember what we talked about and the Lord just be with us through this time. There and sort of guide us and help us to take our fears turn to you with them. Lord I think you're young. This week just.
