him happy Sabbath today we are continuing our study through the book of first Peter and today we are in first Peter chapter four before we begin our study of the environment for aware prayer father in heaven we thank you for this Sabbath day we thank you for the opportunity to study your word we thank you for the message of first Peter and bless us as we study are worth this is my prayer Jesus served first Peter chapter four is the subject for today and just by way of review we are going to highlight some of the themes from the first three chapters so that we understand where peters had a chapter four as we recall in first Peter chapter one Peter a juror asses those sure I will act according to the foreknowledge of God through sanctification of the Spirit unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ he talks how that we have been begotten again until lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus from the dead joint inheritance incorruptible and on the filed of faith not a way and we see with this inheritance is incorruptible the heart of the experience of the Christian life are the trials of our faith we see that in first Peter chapter one verse seven and how that the trials of our faith produce in us an experience that is more precious than gold that is purified with fire because when we hear sure five five inch trials of our faith our faith and our experience becomes more precious than that of gold and then we see and continuing on through first Peter chapter one that were exhorted to gird up the loins of your mind of the server to filter the end to be obedient children to be holy in all manner of conversation in the works for Condit conversation means conduct in verse sixteen says because it is written be holy for I am holy and we recall that holy conduct prepares us for the judgment because that is what we will be judged on as we continue to chapter one we see that we are born again out of corruptible seed but of incorruptible by the word of God and it's interesting we when we go through the trials of our faith which sure class which make us holy that helps us to be incorruptible ever twenty four Peter says look all flesh is like grass and window seat comes when the sun bears down on grass the grass withers and fades away and she membranes of the flash from the trials we fade away and yes he is single when we are incorruptible formed by the word of God we do not fade away in the transition of the chapter cheese we see that as new worn baby Sweet Carreiro but eventually we are described as being a chosen generation a royal priesthood that is built upon the foundation of Christ in them we are given the example of Christ this is how Christ lived as incorruptible seed through the trials of why is he suffered he threatened my when he was reviled he reviled not again he committed off to him who judges righteously as interesting he did no sin neither was guile found in his mouth these are the descriptions of the other hundred and forty four thousand question is then how are we tested how to translate as an example one first Peter chapter through the fearsome trials of your faith women those of you who are married to ungodly this is an opportunity for you to show the character of Christ the next example is when you are try for your faith verse fifteen says be ready always to give an answer for the reason of the hope that is within you with meekness and year do we back away from our faith are we ashamed of her own do we give an answer when we are exhausted and try and we get to the end of first Peter chapter three we see that Jesus seated on the right hand of God angels authorities and powers are made subject under him you may think how the possible that I can pass to the trauma by how the possible that I can be like Christ Lord Jesus is gone into heaven he is on the right hand of God angels and authorities and powers of the main subjects on the him and that we've is now to first Peter chapter four which begins in verse one and a reads for as much of the as Christ suffered for us in the flash arm yourselves likewise with the same mind for she that have suffered in the flesh hath ceased from son that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh the lust of men but to the will of God is a lot here in these first few verses notice worksheet or is saying here as the summary savings as for as much of that is slicing therefore therefore forasmuch then as Christ has suffered for us where in the flash so therefore as Christ suffered for us in the flash and the Greeks were here for flashes stars which includes mind and body management says Max said he suffered for us in the flesh but those arm yourselves likewise with the same mind so how do we suffer Christ suffered for us in the flesh and we arm ourselves likewise with the same notices doesn't say flash it says with the same mind that's interesting before the arm ourselves likewise with the same mind and Christ suffered for us in the flash and in that flesh that he suffered we arm ourselves with the same mind where does that tell you that Christ suffered in his flesh clearly in the mind in Christ she is suffering should place in his mind and we are called to have the same line or to arm ourselves with the same mind and that of course reminds us of the passage in Philippians two which says what this mind be in you which was also in Christ results read that Philippians chapter shoot verse five enlarged liver and start versus the socially my during the like-minded having the same laws they have one accord of one mind let nothing be done through strife or vainglory and lowly with the lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves lookout every man on his own things but every man also on the things of others what this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus and just as we are ourselves with the same mind of Christ in first Peter four verse one we have we are told to have the mind of Christ in us and what was this mind giving the form of God thought it not robbery to be equal to God but made himself of no reputation check upon the formulas of a servant and was made in the likeness of men and being found in fashion as a man he humbled himself and became obedient to death even the death of the cross as interesting when we are told how the mind of Christ Philippians two which hold to avoid certain things offers were told to be like-minded to have the same love to be of one accord of one I would certainly meet of you the mind of Christ but here's some things to avoid what nothing be done through strife or vainglory and let's esteem each other better than ourselves now imagine Christ struggle when he came to this earth Christ came as Chang of kings and Lord of Lords he was equal with God because he was God and knew he became a servant of man he was in a pool always say he was born in a manger imagine how trying about the Venice hubris being intended as he was being tried as he went through the experiences of life here on this Earth knowing that she is King of Kings and Lord of lords and the temptation of must of been the same don't you know who I am how dare you treat me like that don't you know I created you as and when he must've been thinking any we hear it's called to arm ourselves likewise with the same line so we should not be during Singh 's first drive for vainglory we should be assuming others better than ourselves and it's so easy according to human flesh for people to strive first the promisee to want to have power to want to be in a position but told others this is how your ideas because I face and yet Christ humbled himself he esteemed others better than some of C uses the example to follow and first Peter Q it says that when he was reviled when he reviled not again when he suffered he threatened not that he committed himself to him and judges righteously and when we are being mistreated for doing what is right that is the greatest trial the greatest suffering double and Christ you was in our flesh he came in the likeness of sinful flesh and Romans eight three four he was made in the likeness of men she and Philip instructor to teach came in the seed of David according to the flesh in Romans one three in room he refuses he also himself likewise to the credit of the same as for someone he received fourteen years to sixteen is in all things that need to be manlike and his brethren this all tells us that Christ took our fallen sinful human nature and he suffered in the flesh in his long-running and we suffer in our human flesh in the morning and yet we are told to have the mind of Christ what mind is not when we you are wrong I'm sorry we suffer for doing the right thing and we take it patiently and we don't find back that is arming yourself with the mind of Christ because that is cry that is what Christ did when she was on trial and notice what it says here's his first year that have suffered in the flesh hath ceased from Sun imagine that when you arm yourself with the mind of Christ and when you do so you suffer in the flesh Scripture tells us that we've ceased from sending it out into your throat tells us to lay aside every weight and the centers that so easily beset us and to run the race that is set before the communities of the author and finisher of our faith we see that he clearly didn't have sent any a inverse fourth hubris twelve is the unite here resisted on the blood striving against that notice there resisting of the blood striving against them that clearly parallels with the concept of suffering enough that means resisting sin on the block and when we do so when we resist that sentiment was striving against and that's the same as suffering in the flesh and ceasing from since and that's exactly what Christ did and it's interesting and first Peter chapter two first twenty achievements as Christ did no sin neither was guile found in his mouth why did unison because in his mind he's suffered in the flesh he resisted sin on the blood striving against sense and it says that he left us an example first Peter two twenty one that we should follow his steps he did no sin neither was guile found so here in first Peter Forrest one for as much then as Christ has suffered for us in the flesh arm yourselves likewise with the same mind or resists sin in the blood for he that has suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin on our naïve about the experience that I want in the flesh it may not seem pleasant but it's ceased from son to have the mind of Christ that is the experience that I won't have a man noticed Richie that he should no longer live the rest of his time in the flash to the wealth of none but the will of God now it's interesting so that we we no longer live in the flesh interesting room is a responses there is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus you walk not after the flesh but after the spirit realm and seven describes the whole experience of living in the flash being harmful sold under sin or in other words being a slave to sin and Roman six clearance over the wages of sin are death but instead of living in the flash to the loss of memory went to the will of God now it's interesting and he recesses Christ came to do the will of God Psalms forty first eighty also tells us that Christ came to do the will of God and salsa forty Versace 's crisis of either white to do thy will am I God ye vital law is with in my heart this off waivers they clearly told us that the will of God is God 's law written in our hearts which is interesting because he burst ten sixteen cells is that the nuke is God 's law written in our hearts so when we ourselves with the mind of Christ when we suffer in the flesh seeking living in the will of God we are living according to God 's law or we are living a news not why now it's interesting in another place in the Scriptures this is actually versus Lions for verse three notice what how the will of God as defined in first Peter Schneider scripts are first appliance chapter four verse reason for this is the will of God even your sanctification that he should abstain from fornication so what is the will of God in first Thessalonians for it is sanctification so when use suffer in the flash with the same mind of Christ according to the will of God you are living in a sanctified life in Jesus Christ lived a sanctified life because it was Christ who said father if it be possible let this cup pass from me but not my will the design being done Christ was suffering for us in Gethsemane in the flesh especially in his mind the temptation was in his mind and yet he suffered for us in the mind in the flesh and lived according to the will of God and that is the life that we are called the list and of the high calling the praise God he gives us power to follow his example in the first three of the time path of life may suffice as German rock the will of the Gentiles when we watch and lasciviousness loss excess of wine reveling banqueting and abominable while idolatries where they think it's strange that he run off with them to the same axis of riots speaking evil of you who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and noticed this many of this year have had a conversion experience and we have friends will I bring through us perhaps they remember us when we were rabid sports and likes when we knew all this distance all the statistics of all the players of all the teams and now I ask us about the playoffs of the World Series of the NFL we don't really know what's going on it before that's strange how can you know how that anymore it used to be a rabid sports fan or maybe they remember you when you want when you use the party and drink and get drunk and you don't do that anymore I like the man he used to be the best partier in town what happened in the new Sonata really have fun here get each issues now that yet we don't live that life anymore maybe they remember you when you use address like Jezebel or Madonna or Britney Spears I like you are you dressed look like you're wearing potato sacks what happened if and yet your converted night you're not living to the lusts of the flush walking according to the will of the world of the Gentiles you're not living according to lasciviousness or luster excess of wine rumblings banqueting his abominable idolatrous anyhow what if the world wants to think they were strange so be it now obviously I will might even talk about how we shouldn't dress like gazing stocks or be disagreeable Christian Derby had worn rear like being a holier than thou type of Christian but the point is when we become converted and we will leave the things of this world behind there will be asked leery difference that will be seen between us and the world at rest the world can't tell our Christian lesson before and in some of our classes if the if people at work don't know you're a Christian it might just be because you're not and we need to be surrendered to the Lord every day so that we will exist you to sizzle love his character his righteousness so that people will see Christ living through is that they will see the mind of Christ and the way we carry ourselves and notice it says crucial give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead notice that we will give an account to God is ready to judge those your living of both your dad and those your living according to loss of the flash will be judged accordingly where is those relevant according to the will of God will be judged accordingly now how is it that we now how to live based on the fact that a judgment is coming out of her sentences for for this was the gospel preached also to them that are dead that they might be judged according to men in the flesh to live according to God in this but the end of all things is at hand be therefore sober and watch on the first analysis of the gospel was preached also to them that are dead now some people say see the data are really death the gospel of increased of them also have to understand Peter is writing under the assumption that you understand the issue the state of the dead and so she is say those your dad when they were alive the gospel was preached to them just as we you are living today are having the gospel preached to us so that we won't know how to live our life so that when our names the judgment we will be found on the rights I anyway say what what the gospel of for the New Testament on how to make gospel be preached to people in the Old Testament both interesting small in the book of Hebrews chapter four tells us that the gospel was preached to Old Testament Israel that is he reset verse four starting in verse one one is therefore fearless the promise luck and left us of entering into his rest any of you should seem to come short of it for unto us was the gospel preached as well as under them but the word preached did not profit them not being next with face amendment he's healing this is following he reached three where he talks about how the old testament nation of Israel always harden their hearts and how God said they couldn't enter into the rest that you promise to them because the word preached the gospel did was not next in case of them clearly those people are dead so the gospel was preached to them as well thought for Versace is referring to in this gospel tells us that we might be judged according to minimum flash hello according certainly significant the Gospels preached that we might be judged according and then in the flesh to live according to God in the spirit so what's that sank in the judgment even though we live in human flash yes we live according to God in the spirit Asif Rahman vases you walk out of the flesh but after the spirit we will be found on the right side of the judgment why because there is no condemnation now verse seven says that the end of all things is a handy either for server enlargement prayer so when we have the gospel preached unto us when we understand that we are not to live according to the flesh but under that after the spirit the thing that we must you is to be sober and watch and approve the only way that God will give us power to walk according to this I learned of the flesh is the prey to wash to be serving the grassy for jobs found to be imparted his to lose the victorious Christian life continuing on number citizens and above all things have fervent charity among yourselves for charity shall cover the multitude of sins use hospitality one another without grudging as a remembrance receive the gift even so minister the same mantra another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God verse eleven if any man speak let him speak as the oracles of God if any man Minister Lanier as availability which God giveth the God of all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ to whom be praise and dominion forever and ever and now here we see Paul Geter Peter gives some practical illustrations in verses eight through eleven of title of the practical victorious Christian life according to the will of God water we are waiting for the judgment his success above all things a fervent charity or love among yourselves for love shall cover the multitude of sins but you know if we really love each other it would take away so many of the issues that we face during this time is like you know if the people that you like oh we are the people that you know it sure is a problem for the Christian experience we are not suffering in the flesh having the mind of Christ because Christ was mistreated Christ was infused and yet he took occasionally adhesive father forgive them for they know not what they do is so easy for us humanly speaking the sex of that person I can't wait for God shows them a thing or two because vengeance belongs that you can pay them back in the judgment he had show them some love certainly not having charity among ourselves hello Mama 's house because my book cover the multitude of sins this is these hospitality one to another without dredging we should grudgingly help one another evolution beasts with thankfulness of heart help each other out and incisive as a remembrance receiving if we should minister one to another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God and ensue in verse eleven says that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ and then haul search sorry that you sent Palm sees the future anyway here in verse twelve of chapter forces beloved think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is the try year though some strange thing happened on the third rejoice inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings that when his glory shall be revealed he may be glad also with exceeding joy tenderness if we take the mind of Christ we are going to suffer in the flash and it's not experience that will help us to cease from sin which will prepare us to be like Christ you did no sin neither was guile found in his mouth so that we will be ready to stand in the judgment and be found without fault before the throne of God and have no guile found in our mouths just as the hundred and forty four thousand are described in Revelation fourteen is of how is it that we cease from sin house and that we are purified so that we will be like Christ it's the flyer reach trials the allow us to be partakers of Christ's sufferings and noses is what has that we should rejoice that when his glory shall be revealed when we may be glad also with exceeding joy tenderness Scolari will be revealed when he comes back the second time but certainly Christ glory was also revealed and how he lives his life here on this Earth and when we demonstrate the character of Christ and God 's glory is his character when we did exhibit his caricature that our trials and through our sufferings his glory is revealed through us and so it is a privilege to be a partaker of his when he comes in the clouds we will be glad with exceeding joy and when his character is revealed through us I should be in the room rejoice in gladness and of course we won't know that we are exhibiting his character because the closer we come to the Lord the more professions in a number cells we seeing it gobbled that person has ceased from sin they have been purified and of course we will continue to remember all of our shortcomings in films and yet Christ is sure if I hasn't he sank his father see the spread in the sister they become like me so we should rejoice now and again when we suffer when we go through trials and in Scripture tells all who live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution so when we have Christ finally have his character we will pass through trials and sufferings continuing owners working if he be reproached for the name of Christ are you for the spirit of glory and of God rested upon the on their part he is evil spoken of that on your part he is glorified so if for approach for the name of Christ we should be happy because we are suffering the name of Christ and that shows that we are living the good life that Christ wants us to live the notice research uses the let none of you suffer as a murderer or as a thief or as an evildoer or as a busybody in other men's matters most is interesting it's like what if you are or see if he will be roaring busybody in other men's matters you deserve this usher and don't suffer for things like that because God has made it possible for them to give us the victory over things such as murder and I hope none of us here would even think about murder and yet Christ tells us in Scripture those of you who hate your brother are a murderer in your heart so he saved why I hate someone so much I wish they were dead you're committing murder in her resume careful or as a thief certainly we would know loss steel evildoer for the busybody in other men's matters enough it's not our business to get into other people 's lives in a phone of our business the gossip about them here so if we suffer Fernandez things were asking for Scripture singularly those things are sixteen units any man suffer as a Christian let him not be ashamed to let him glorify God in this behalf so if we are suffering on the behalf of God that is what we should be suffering for them as servants this is it appears making it very clearly Stanford Peter chapter one of the trial of our faith purifies us in and first Peter four one we take the mind of Christ we will suffer in the flesh which will help us to cease from sin versus twelve through sixteenth we see that we shouldn't think it strange to suffer for Christ we should rejoice because we are partakers of Christ's sufferings and we see that God has been glorified on our behalf and it's interesting the very next verse reception which is a familiar verse the economist or seventeen says for the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God and out of first begin source will then be of them that obey not the gospel of errors in judgment begins first with the house of God so we know that as God 's remnant people is the seventh and most people we well been challenged first what will the judgment based on all according to first Peter chapter force is going to be how did brother or sister had a brother John her sister Mary how did they handle the trials of why are they like the children of Israel of old who every time a trial came they murmured in their hearts and they exhibited on the way towards God where they like phrasing on every time life is going well they got a new job or a pay raise or got a good grade in school and finished at the top of their class and there is no God is so good we are so thankful we love him with all of our hearts and then when a trial someone in the family gets a health problem when someone loses a job in the house when there's a conflict in the family when things just aren't going well when there's trials among brothers and sisters at work then we start questioning of one how can God allow this to happen me to God 's lead me here to have a miserable Christian life so that I can have fun like the rest of the world that's what the judgment is going to be based on any and yet if we are like Christ having the mind of Christ so that when we suffer for doing the will of God and we take it patient they we say praise the Lord that I can suffer for Christ praise the Lord that I can give glory to his name for living his life even though the world hates me and no one else understands me if we can suffer and take it patiently when the judgment begins in the house of God Jesus to his or advocate will say to the father this person is just like me they have my righteousness for the judgment is going to be based on which is why Scripture tells us that the judge will be based according to our works in the course phobias is a Christ works in our lives or is our own works if it's Christ works we will have the same mind this in and demonstrate the same life that he demonstrates if it's our own works we will be complaining murmuring and men like the children of Israel and letting the old covenant Christian or the old covenant experience Christian that tries to follow God and yet we do it around my notes receipts chances are it is the first the first half of verse of Genesis and if you first begin the at us what shall the enemy of them that obey not the gospel and that's a rhetorical questions like what if you're not obey the gospel of God boy what's your end going to be another thrips agenesis and if the righteous scarcely be saved where shall the ungodly in the center of sheer benefits are seeking this is the righteous shall scarcely be saved it's like there's certainly discounted the idea that it's so easy we say that anybody can just roll and through this broad music that you just basically float down the river through and yet few years things have the righteous will scarcely be saved because were going to the trial of our faith we are suffering in the flesh at the fiery trial and we are called to suffer in the flesh but arming ourselves with the mind of Christ and Scripture says the righteous will scarcely be saved therefore scarcely saved where shall the ungodly and sinners here in a before I make it sound like it's so hard to be probably you will be sent the Scripture makes it clear that God has provided all power for anyone to tap into that power that he is able to keep us from falling when he is able to save to the uttermost those that come and gone him a few percent so we now that salvation is readily available because God is all-powerful and yet because of the fiery trial Peterson but the righteous will scarcely be saved you will go through the straight and narrow gate many will go through the broad gauge and destruction so verse nineteen says wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God that the keeping of their solstice well doing as unto a faithful Creator 's analysis when we suffer according to the will of God and the will of God according to first this plans for his sanctification or according to Hebrews ten seven ten sixteen insults forty percent is God 's law and our hearts so when you're hauling on plot one we are living in a sanctified left when we are arming ourselves with the mind of Christ we will suffer according to the will of dynamite when we do so we come to the keeping of our souls to him in well doing and that's exactly what Jesus did when he suffered he threatened not when he was reviled he reviled not again become themselves to him the judges righteously so when we hear him suffering when we are being threatened when we are going through the fiery trials of life we can the keeping of our souls to him who judges righteously as well we can matter so that the human well nearing weaved you soon notice to show we are doing sent as unto a faithful Creator we know that God is Creator we know that God is judge us and that's a reminded us that if we don't all we know is creator if we don't believe that God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh Morgan have a hard time exercising faith affected will be impossible for us to exercise saving face so what is the message of first Peter chapter four what is the message of first-tier win one more chapter to go after the message of first here is that we will suffer for our faith through the trials of her faith and that those trials in which we suffered books sure flies into that which is more precious than gold tried in the fire because we will be purified and then into an incorruptible seed that is made just like Jesus Jesus you took our fallen sinful nature and suffered for us in the mind makes it possible for us to suffer in the flesh and to cease from sin because she suffered in the flesh he gained victory over sin in the flesh Romans eight totals that he can damn sin in the flesh by coming in the likeness of sinful flesh so that the righteousness of the law or the righteousness of Christ might be fulfilled in us who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit and when we walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit we both suffer in the flesh we will go through fiery trials and yet it is bad experience that will trip to Paris to stand in the judgment when the judgment begins with the house of God and we are living in the time of the judgment the judgment of the dead began in eighteen forty four and Alomar told us soon not know how see the judgment of the living will begin in the question will be at that time how are we living our lives are we living after the spirit and not after the flesh when we suffer in the flesh have we arm ourselves with the mind of Christ to live our lives the way Jesus crisis is living because Christ is seated on the right hand of God first Peter three twenty two he is gone to heaven and is on the right hand of God angels and authorities and powers have been made subject of the hymns so that we can walk not after the flesh but after the spirit and we can have Christ righteousness fulfilled in us somewhat of us who suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of our souls to him in well doing as unto a faithful Creator may we be faithful let us close with a word of her father Henry thank you for the message to first Peter four may we arm ourselves with the mind of Christ may we cease from sinning they weaken that are sold under a faithful Creator is under a faithful Creator and then we rejoice when we suffer for your say thank you for all you've done for us and maybe your life you completely this is my prayer Jesus came
