After 10 verse one going to ask Cally Chapter 10 verse $110.00 doesn't start by itself the start up by itself is a start it's it's just. What I say it is not so. What we need chapter 9 that feeds into Chapter 10 is what I'm trying to say so maybe somebody out there has not washed episode 9 go watch Episode 9 but if you haven't Kathy what what can you share with us saying now and so it's got to after 9 years after 9 Ok when I set up so 90 I am going to say so if so then jumper and it's right as we talked about this this corporate prayer that happens where they are recounting the amazing things that God has done for them despite their failures and then turn away from them and like over and over and over again and it ends with the ultimate faithfulness of God they're committing themselves to him again for a covenant and that's why we come into Chapter 10 of them they're still for the covenant of the people who are there and who place their seal the doc Yeah you could be that India actual original document they actually signed their own name will see their end Sebastian if you look and we want to ask you to read Chapter 11 verses one through 8 but if you're out there watching with a look at chapter it's over 10 versus one street you actually see a list of names the 1st name is the among the Among the governor and you see all those names verse 9 These were the priest the Levites just threw out all the law or stand there brother in verse 14 the leaders of the people are there and these are all names Yes and you can read that on your own time now verse chapter Chapter 1028 is where what they're actually promising the details of this coming are mentioned So Sebastian Can you read that for us please yes. Now the rest of the people the priests the Levites the gatekeepers the singers the net the Nim and all those who had separated themselves from the peoples of the lands so the law of God their wives their sons and their daughters everyone where knowledge and understanding these joined with their brethren their nobles and entered into a curse and an oath to walk in God's law which was given by Moses the servant of God and to observe and do all the commandments of the Lord all of the Lord our Lord and His ordinances in his statues we would not give our daughters as wives of the peoples of the land nor take their daughters for our sons if the peoples of the land brought Weyers or any grain to sell on the Sabbath day we would not buy it from them on the Sabbath or on a holy day and we would forego the 70 years produce in the exacting of every day it also we made ordinances for ourselves to exact from ourselves yearly one 3rd of a shackle for the service of the house of our God for the showbread for the regular grain offering for the regular burnt offering of the Sabbaths the new moons and the set feasts for the holy things for the sin offerings to make atonement for Israel and all the work of the house of our God we cast lots among the priests the Levites in the people for bringing the wood offering into the house of our God according to our fathers houses at the appointed times year by year to burn on the altar of the Lord our God as it is written in the long Ok verse $35.00 Kelly can you pick up for us and we made ordinances to bring the 1st fruits of our ground and the 1st fruits of all fruit of all trees year by year to the house of the Lord to bring the firstborn of our sons and our cattle as there is written in the law and the firstborn of our herds and our flocks of the house of our God to the priests who minister in the house of our God to bring the 1st fruits of our dough our offerings the fruit from all kinds of trees. New wine and oil to the priest to the store rooms of the house of our God and to bring the tiles of our land to the Levites to leave us should receive the ties and all our farming communities and the priest the descendant of Aaron shall be with the Levites when the Levites receive tides and the Levites shall bring up a 10th of the ties to the house of our God to the rooms of the storehouse 1st you know for a children of Israel and the children of Levi shall bring the offering of the grain of the new wine and the oil to the store rooms where the articles of the sanctuary are where the priests who minister and the gate keepers and the singers are and we will not neglect the house of our God Ok so there was a long passage but there is some good stuff in there they promise themselves to do a couple things then they sign their names to what are some of those things that they're entering a covenant into with basically this is like a like a relaunch of reboot of Israel Israel 2.0 or 5.0 at every school however many apostasies and returns you want to count but they're saying hey I'm 1432 Yeah. Let's not judge because we're not better than 1000004 Yeah so they're they're really launching what God had ordained in Pennsylvania or in Deuteronomy and the other books as well and God was saying you know this is the way that I want you to have the social economical and religious life is to look like this. Lord we're going to do this now and we're going to turn to you we're going to follow the instructions that you've given us and it talks about the different you know taking care of the land having a day or year of rest for the land not expecting you know. Does the question about that we had a discussion earlier on it talks about taking care of the sanctuary it make sure that they're following the law of God coming you know it really kind of reminds me of this idea that we call revival and reformation the idea that going to the revival of chapter 8 in making this prayerful. Mina Chapter 9 actually has to lead to practical reformation in your life so it's great to be revived and say yes we will we understand the law of God but the Bible says that he that is a hero of the law and not a doer right he's the sieved right down the Reformation and like. I think we have a pretty good grasp on your bible is but what is technically reformation so in revival you're coming back to spiritual life again Reformation is dealing with the practical steps of reshaping your life to the will of gone so now we're getting into the practical now that I'm surrender to him What is he calling me to do because in the text it tells you that we committed in verse 28 to walk in the law of God Now that law is something that is constantly as we're studying in reading and understanding we're going to commit but there were certain things that were more at the forefront of the concern in one of those was marriage not giving our sons to their daughters and not taking their daughters for our sons and the realisation that the fundamental thing that had to be restored was the home like if the family is corrupted if the family is broken and divided spiritually you are destroying Israel from the very foundation and so because of that this reformation came not that we are all sitting there with our wives and our children in Nehemiah 8 and 9 but now we all have to commit that we need to protect the home and make sure every single family is Christ entered in God centered is homes who are created to be platforms to pass on the message the past on the mission in the past on the destiny of God's people identity and if they were to introduce their values into this home system that that mission of God would be thwarted That's right and they have that experience they know that from their own experience that's what happens and in their detail just about how important the whole family is just comes and the at the end of verse $28.00 so all these people they're separate themselves but so it's less there so that the men themselves their wives their sons and their daughters and that makes this blanket statement of everyone. Who had knowledge and understanding it's not just something for like the elders or just the nobles or those have a lot of like literally anyone who understands this you're committing yourself and it just shows like The Family it's not just like the parents need to be converted or their parents but like the kids themselves you need to be like you know even if I'm not marrying age when I grow up like this is what I want to be dedicated to you and honoring the Sabbath you know reminded me of a powerful experience I had on a plane I was sitting next to a father and I was my wife was expecting our 1st child and his daughter had just gotten married his oldest daughter and saw having a daughter has all this is a daughter so I always have this habit that when I meet new people in I discover something about them I always ask What's the most rewarding thing about what you do and what's the most challenging thing or introverted question to ask somebody yes it is because I'm an introvert so I go to him and I said So what's the most rewarding thing about being a father and he told me the story that he said when I was young my daughter hated the fact that I drank alcohol and she was saying that I don't like the fact that you drink like drinking is bad at school we learned this in this in this drunk drivers and so he went to his daughter at 11 years old and he took out he brought 2 rings and he said Ok here's the deal if you promise to keep yourself pure until you're married I promise I'll never drink alcohol. And so she said Ok you have a deal she put the ring on so he said years go by his daughter is 28 years old there at the wedding he's walking down the aisle he's like it's all emotional he goes to give her away and she puts her hand in his hand in the opens it is the ring. And she says that I kept my promise and he said it's everything in my heart right to not break down to start crying I just rush to my seat of my wife was I was wrong. And he opened his hand in this wife started crying and he's saying he knew what that meant that she said I had kept my promise I have kept my covenant to my dad and it just reminds you that even. Here in Israel this is the kind of experience that these young kids were going through in the time of Nehemiah which is we're entering into a covenant with our parents that this is we're going to keep ourselves we're not going to give ourselves to the people of this one and that's a story that he told me on that plane I mean it just really moved me so deeply to see how significant it was to pass on certain values to his daughter in the sea that she kept it in now that legacy was going on to bring children that is that so that is powerful that is the original blueprint of what marriages and families should be this massing on and why God instituted Hollywood and media has created another world view of what marriage and family should be and their conflict constant conflict and not just even Hollywood sometimes you blame Hollywood for all of society's evils but something culture itself that just. Neutral culture culture that's right and have a different worldview that goes against their will intent as well talk about marriage but what are some other things that the Israelites here are promising themselves to Kelly Another aspect is keeping the Sabbath holy and this idea that even if other people come in and they try to you know they're not obligated because they don't know we're still not going to interact with them we're not going to let them sell and not encourage that so I get to it as a dislike or to keep the Sabbath but it's almost like they kind of know this is an issue this specifically is so this is where they're going to focus on the honoring the Sabbath Yeah on selling and on buying very very specific of which we get a lot of our Sabbath keeping principles today from this book of. What is the relation between marriage and Sabbath why why those 2 things well I mean they are rooted in the Garden of Eden these are the things that when God created us He allowed us to carry them on side of the yeah to institutions we have back from all the way back from the Garden of Eden when we come back we're going to look at the 2 other things that the Israelites promised them themselves to and when they break these these promises. Gets into a little bit of this fight so you don't want to miss it after the break. Has impressed been a blessing to you Do you have questions comments all feedback you'd like to leave us find us on social media by searching. On Facebook Twitter Instagram for you to while there join us like us. I handle again in 1st Bible Belt states now back to the discussion. They welcome back to. Chapter 13 we are really smack in the middle of a very intense Bible study here the Israelites promised themselves to God in a covenant for 4 things and we looked at marriage and stab it and those being the dual institutions the Garden of Eden question to all of you is what are 2 other aspects we see actually 4 things that they commit themselves to we see here another thing is that they are committing themselves to bring back the temple 10 percent of their increase is going to support the work of God and it is and it's an action of faith an action of commitment an action of love it's an action of stewardship it's something they do joyfully because they want to be connected with the Lord and want to show their gratitude as well and so this is tied but then they also commit themselves to taking care of the temple and keeping the ordinances to the things that are help them remember we talked about that in the previous episode remember what God has done and will do for them in the Messiah so they are committing themselves to upholding God's way and God's teachings for future generations and when you think about the sensuality of the house of God It's repeated several times in this chapter to drive home the point for a Jew The Temple was the center of the house of God was the center of their economy center of their religion center of their society and it's it's a message to us that God should also be central. To. Every aspect of our lives our political choices our financial choices our purpose in terms of mission our family what we do with our money how we support leadership all of these things are centered in the house of God and that's where the chapter ends by saying in verse $39.00 we will not neglect the house of our God It goes to show you that all 4 of these things that they're committing to are all areas of spiritual experience that are grounded in the view that you have of God If you have a low view of God You will not honor a marriage club you want to honor the Sabbath you will not return well that's your that's just the next next natural question is why these 4 things and so you're saying there's a connection to our spiritual experience but why what does also there are something else like there's something more and more superficial That's pretty deep on a more substantial level of what connects these 4 things to each other you know have a thought and I'm Ok that's Ok sure you thought my my question is oh since you're curious Well I just see them as they all are foundational to different parts of our lives so. Of marriage that contributes to the family as a community but never ever all relationships Sabbath is honoring that day for God and honoring him in things that may not make sense because something I just really appreciate or like notice what the Sabbath is like other things other people can adapt like yeah don't kill people now we get that talking at all to get that like the Sabbath that's random but that is just for God and then tie it is stewardship and remember a nothing actually belongs to you and so that helps you be more generous helps you understand reality and then the temple of God is remembering you know the other parts where people neglect the house of God for their own but like building up God's house and remembering you want him to come to well with you and each of them are just cornerstones that lead to other blessings or if you neglect them to other curse Yeah that's that's that's that's deep as he was there and just. You know I just I just all for the holy things so yeah I don't. God I would agree with me in concert with your answers but there are 2 creation accounts the 1st time one of which ends in chapter 2 verse 4 of Genesis and the apex of that is Sabbath or God places his presence in the very fabric of time the 2nd creation apexes with marriage where God places as presence in the bodies of 2 people one male one female in the confines and the protection of matrimony and then he places himself in the temple of God where his presence is there and then tie is set apart not that he's actually in the actual money of the 10 percent but that's his to begin with correct and so these are 4 holy foundations as you said and that's and why it into our experience exactly in that's why your view of God is going to affect how you treat holy things when God is holy so if I have a low conception of God a holy gone automatically going to disrespect holy things that are holy unto God When you commit in marriage you're committing something on to God The Sabbath is time committed on to gone this money committed on to God the house of God worship my spiritual submission and will unto gaunt of which I would say in this great controversy that Satan hates these 4 things just as much as a marriage marriage he hates the temple of God He is the 7th day sabbath he hates ties and he wants us to use the beautiful things as you commit all these things unto God God will then reveal himself through that in your life and to others so he is glorified it's not just the temple is the building but God's presence is there and you know the way you deal with money is just money but the blessing of comes with faithful tithing is glorifies God's faithfulness in your life so and same in marriage and so on so it's just a beautiful way how God is goes back and forth it's going to go to Chapter 13 now or skip over 11 and 12 and for you out there read. 7 and 12 and when you think when you create your own Bible study guide let us know what you have on the 111213 is connected to 1013 is connected to 10 and they create a little mini as I'm in the append and Appendix side as well if it is in 1st yes and Chapter 13 version one chapter 13 1st one reversed one on that day they read from the Book of Moses in the hearing the people and in it was found written that no ammonite or mobilized should ever come into the Assembly of God because they had not met the children of Israel bread and water but hired me let me get them to curse them however our God turned the curse into a blessing so it was that when they had heard the law they all separated the multitude mixed multitude from Israel verse 4 now before this a law is shipped to the priest having authority over the storerooms of the house of our God was allied with. This is a see a guest appearance from this I think that is so old that yeah it's a sidekick and on top of that he was an Ammonites which we just read you know verse 5 he had prepared from a large room where previously to store the grain offerings to Franklin's articles tides of grain knew why oil which were commanded to give into the Levites and singers and gate keepers and all the offering for the priests but during all this I was not in Jerusalem for in the 32nd your arteries are seeking a babylon I return to the king then after certain days I have seen leave from the king I came to Jerusalem and discover the evil that a life should had done for to buy in preparing a room for him in the courts of the house of God is man verse 8 It grieves me bitterly therefore I threw all the household goods out to buy out of the room this is just amazing verse 9 then I commanded them to cleanse the rooms and brought back into them the articles of the house of God with the grain offering and the Franklin's So just as a disclaimer we want to establish that we do not agree with the methodology of Nehemiah Chapter 13 we do agree wavy with his perspective and as he. Ology his zeal and in protecting these things but we don't want to take literally throwing people out and when he does later. Yeah I just want to put that in there he doesn't really end his legacy too well but we need to see his his eal and we need to take what is good and avoid what is bad and put that in the whole perspective and the entire scriptures just to commute verse 10 through 10 through 13 for us I also realize that the portions for the Levites have not been given them for each of the bytes and the seniors who did the work had gone back to his field so I contend with the rulers and said Why is the house of God forsaken and they gathered together and set them in their place then all Judah brought their types of the grain and the new wine and the oil of the storehouse to the store of and I appointed the Treasurer's over to storehouse shall Maya the priest and that a scribe of the Levites to die and next to them was hen and son of Sachar the son of Metz and Iowa for they were considered faithful and their task was to distribute to their brethren in verse 14 please sir you remember me oh my God concerning this and do not wipe out my good deeds that I have done for the house of my God and for its services Ok so they had promised 4 things in need of my chapter 10 they promise I want to keep the house of God holy and make sure and then there is nothing unclean enters it and I want to pay also make sure that we pay tithes return and in the 1st 2 things that they violate after these many years those things and after which he verse 14 he busts out into a prayer we see Chapter 19 he's like saying we want to remember but here verse 14 remember me oh god so it's kind of this inversion in verse. Remember Me Oh My God is this kind of weird is this a little bit self serving in the way I know we all are we all scientists. Document the law remember me because I'm the only one that is that it could be taken that we can tell you having a hard time with the thing that a kind of runs we have and not just here but reading on just how you react like again I think his frustration and his react like it makes sense and it kind of reminds me of Moses striking the rock when he shouldn't have like there he's just he's so fed up with these people and he's done so much for them these look at the end of his rope like why are you this way and so I don't think I think it's Ok to be like you and I don't think it makes like a bad person Yeah Does it mean like the whole book is awful and everything he did was terrible like in the same way Moses was a servant of God I think he did in a lot of ways be a mistake I think Nehemiah may have made a mistake here but like it again like he's he is trying to serve God he is trying to fix it so well I don't want to let's let's keep reading here we've got to keep on going here we're going to keep reading verse 15 and see what just. Before foreshadowed but I wonder what other 2 things are going to violate 1st 15 in those days I saw people in Judah trying wine presses on the 7th day Sabbath Saturday Saturday and bringing in sheaves loading donkeys with wine grapes figs and all kinds of burdens which they brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day I warned them about the day on which they were selling provisions men of tired they're also brought in fish and all kinds of goods and sold them on the Sabbath to the children and Jude of Judah in Jerusalem I contend with the nobles of Judah sent in a what evil thing is this that you do by which you profane the Sabbath day did not your fathers do such thus and did not our God bring all this disaster on this and on the city yet you bring added wrasse on Israel by profaning the Sabbath so it was at the gates of Jerusalem as it began to be dark before the Sabbath again you see our principle of Sabbath keeping that it commanded the gates to be shot charge that they must mean be open until after the Sabbath I posted some of my servants on at the gates that no burdens would be brought in on the Sabbath Day Now the merchants and so. Of all kinds of wares logged outside of Jerusalem once or twice and I warned them saying said to them Why do you spend the night around the wall if you do so again I will lay hands on you this is not ordination by the way from that time they came in no more on the Sabbath and they commanded the Levites that they should cleanse them and they should go and guard the gates and sanctify the Sabbath they remember me oh my God concerning this also and spare me according to greatness of your mercy So what did they violate here sadly we see time and time again in this circumstance that Nehemiah has done a good work and when you feel as a leader that things are failing your reaction ease to route remember that God will also remember. And I don't want to miss this we got together verse $23.00 in those days I also saw Jews had married women of Ashdod and then in Moab 3 by the people that they were fighting and half of them did not speak the language spoke the language of Ashton and could not to speak the language of Judah but according to the language of the language of one of the other people verse 25 so I contended with them and cursed them struck some of them pulled out their hair made them swear by God saying You shall not give your daughters as wives to the sons or take their daughters for your sons or for yourselves and Solomon do all these things he's talking about all these violations that they did go to verse 29 remember them oh my God because they have defiled the priesthood and the covenant of the priesthood and the Levites and He cleanses them and he concludes remember me oh my god for good as I want to end with this point here the Nehemiah was faithful but he executed his faithfulness and perhaps not a good Christian way and there's ways to do this how many of you out there want to say Lord I want to keep that which is holy holy by your grace and we don't want to swing to the other side as by Jesus's time these 4 things had become idols in the life of the fair seas only by God's grace can we have a balanced Christ centered Bible based experience thanks for joining us here so you here next quarter next topic new different thing here in verse.
