are in this message was sent to you I seems than sequencing from Phoenix Arizona and other resources like this visit us online at www. USC as I said to the first seminar group this morning happy new year how many words have not been to the first or second seminars is all quite a few case of a welcome seminar number through the crossing leadership just and very quick synopsis of seminar wine we looked at why now Jesus had to be both fully God and fully human in order to save us and this is the burden of Hebrews one two and he rescreened before we saw the real rest of sound with his spiritual rest from our works so the details that are brought out parent terms of necessity a thousand unbelievers expressed in Israel's history in order to enter the promised land that applies us who believe we are on the borders of happiness King and now so chapter five then we're going further inhibitors and we will deal with leadership issues which I think the missing pretty significant meaningful understanding of starts for practical loving father thank you for your word the light that brings us as we study deeply seek to know you better your will for us so we asked for your Holy Spirit without whom we can learn nothing but through whom we can learn more than any one of the great here to teach us a UPR teacher and guide in this time together we pray Jesus him how I saw before we actually look at Hebrews five I think is helpful for us to review what few verses in Hebrews chapter three because especially since so many of you were not in the second seminar where we covered this is the foundation really are all spiritual leadership that is Jesus himself and it speaks about Jesus and Hebrews three versus one to and so let's just read these verses together and therefore holy brother partakers of the heavenly calling consider the apostle and high Priest of our confession Christ Jesus who was faithful to him who appointed him as Moses also was faithful in all his house it's interesting that Jesus is called not only high priest but a possible and we will look at these two office apostle and high priest in detail in order to understand better how Jesus exemplifies what it means to be literate leader of Israel so I ask a question when did Jesus become an apostle anyone with how who by whom it's interesting to me that he was not self-appointed in order to answer this question we need to look actually somewhat carefully of the gospel so were to take a little excursion back to the Gospels for a little bit of time here because what Hebrews what Paul writes in Hebrews here is really predicated on Jesus teaching and about himself and also about his essay part of the so let's first mentioned that the word apostle ingredients in a possible loss and it comes from the very purpose fellow which means to send on a mission and examples of the prayer of the spell out to be sent on a mission in connection with Jesus in the Gospels that one is in Matthew twenty one thirty seven the parable of the vineyard I think were were familiar with that you know that the Lord set of the vineyard sent servants and you and the sounds don't like another killed another and then finally he said in verse thirty seven but Nassau he sent unto them his son same day will reference they will respect myself so he sent his heat was the easier it sent the son the father yes of course the father and Jesus points this out in detail in John chapter five the early chapters of John deal with the Judean ministry of Jesus which were actually don't see much of any and all of that in the synoptic Gospels Matthew Mark and Luke but John in the early chapters deals a lot with Jesus ministry Judea and Jerusalem and so he is challenged by the Jewish leaders about his authority to heal and causes man to bear his burden on Sabbath he was six thirty eight years healed by the pool of Bethesda and this ensues into a great controversy of Jesus and his authority and began verse thirty one notice what he says if I bear witness of myself my witness is not true if I bear witness of myself my witness is not true there should you have a deadline when this to Jesus as the apostle or one cent from the father and so then he goes through the various evidences for him being a genuine apostle are one who is sent beginning in verse thirty two carry on perverse thirty five your first John the Baptist which everyone of course at that time except it was a genuine prophet of the Lord who had genuine message from heaven even Jesus at the end of his ministry again refers to John the Baptist 's authority was it from heaven or from among men in order to justify his own authority and they didn't want to answer because they knew they said they would be in trouble accepting John's witness but not Jesus because John witnessed to Jesus he then in verse thirty six Jesus says but I have greater witness than that of John for the works which the father hath given me to finish the same works that I do bear witness of me but the father has sent me again before I was fellow his father has sent me and something Mayor calls that Jesus worked were evidence that he was from have you later on John nine the man one glance at North this paragraph from God he could do nothing wherever was ever recorded in man born blind was ever made to see and seven miracles that Jesus performed were of course not for its own benefit or to justify legalized but because of illustration of the healing power of God to heal us from sin and make us whole completely cold to restore solution which and so as a has this is a very common he points to miracles he says no you won't believe what I say believe the works themselves if you have nothing else to leave them verse thirty seven then he also refers the father himself which has sent me again how this fellow had borne witness of me you neither heard his voice at any time even though the voice of the father 's phone number Jesus baptism of John the Baptist refers to this in John chapter one and down from heaven so there was evidence that Jesus baptism from the father directly this is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased Matthew three sixteen seventeen is another place where that is described and then he says the most important witness for the last verses thirty eight to forty you have not his word that the father 's word abiding in you for whom he has sent can you believe not search the Scriptures for in a sorry for him down you think you have eternal life and they are they which testify of me and you will not come to me that you might have life verse forty one I received is not honor from men so here again he's repeating the same point that you get in verse thirty one 's honorary witness is not a self witness but defined the witnessed by God by his word and by his prophets like John the Baptist verse forty three I am come in my father 's name and ye receive me not if another shall come in his own name can you will receive instant him highly for the one I was really genuinely sent receive later and is true if you look at Israel's history later the ones that were not sent the most prominent of which was bought by the name means son of the star referring probably know there shall be star will appear and take up some of as a messianic figure he claimed to be sad and wanted to restore the temple restore Israel as a nation about the wrong course and is even more disastrously than the destruction eighty seventy with this is called the second revolt so there were there were many many problems five receive rejecting the witness of Jesus and John eight forty two two says to them if I have got where your father you would love me Fry proceeded forth and came from God nor have I come of myself but he sent me so over and over again Jesus emphasizes that he was sent we could look at John seventeen we won't take time to read these verses so just note verse three page and verses seventeen and eighteen the same thing that threw the word we know that Jesus is sent from the father even so also than verse eighteen have I sent them into the world referring to of course the twelve apostles and then also in John twenty twenty one he says that for very familiar verse as the father has sent me so send I you him who sent out to the world what was Jesus mission why was he sent into the world and so what would you say what was his mission as the apostle of the father okay to reveal God who is truly grace and truth came to Jesus yes and here sorry yes seek and save the lost exactly right to us really save that the world through him might be saved and then in its John three seventeen actually and then John three thirty four he indicates that to speak the words of God this was another purpose of his ministry and Luke four eighteen it was annoying to those inside by the spirit of the Lord sent to preach to heal proclaimed forgiveness and dissent the captives free I think it's familiar passage notice verse twenty one then again he points what we saw in Hebrews and are first seminar that this time of fulfillment that he says is words are for fulfilled and for he whom God has sent speaks the words of God does not give the Spirit by measure to him and how did Jesus establish leadership in the church so let's go to a brief over view of how the apostle from the father set up his church and we could look at a number of places first and John one verses thirty five to forty two we won't take the time to read this tells the story of the first disciples they came to Jesus knows the bottom when she is left and send you that are Simon son of Jonah you shall be called Cephas which is translated a stone cell and Andrews mentioned there also Simon Peter 's brother and if we would go further we would see some other of the disciples were connected with Jesus at that time including Daniel they were this was early just after Jesus was baptized that they can become acquainted with Jesus and began following him and more than a year later as the crowds around Jesus teaching grew hanging on every word he selected from this large group of disciples twelve to be his apostles Luke chapter six verses twelve and thirteen described this now it came to pass in those days that he went out to the mound to pray continued all night in prayer to God and when it was day he called his disciples to himself and from them he chose twelve he also named apostles online surveys is described with their office was the most important to which human beings have ever been called and was second only to that of Christ himself Mark three fourteen says that Jesus appointed twelve the word actually great is where our names he made them into apostles of the twelve is the same word actually that's used in Hebrews three one two where it says that Jesus was made apostle and high Priest point out both the same word is used in both interestingly first and Mark here chapter three verse fourteen where Jesus makes the twelve apostles and where Paul three of Hebrews first one to access that he was appointed or made obvious by Kim meaning of course the father Jesus was appointed for me apostle five father and then Ellen White describes and savages page two ninety six this interesting scene of Jesus when gaining the twelve when Jesus had ended his instruction of the disciples who gathered little bent close about him kneeling in the myths of them laying his hands upon their heads he offered a prayer dedicating them to his sacred work best the Lord 's disciples were again to the gospel ministry this is to start pages page two ninety six desire of ages page two ninety six bookmark six seven also where it says he called the twelfth himself began to send them out two by twos of their again number of office fellows used to sent them out to buy two gave them power over unclean spirits or demons it's interesting that it says that they were sent out in pairs of two because there are four lists in the New Testament of the twelve apostles so we could look briefly at this these four places where the list appears first in Matthew ten to four secondly in Mark three sixteen nineteen Luke six thirteen to sixteen thirteen you see that in every list the head group had person of each of the upper of the three division Simons listed first then fill up fifth name or the head of the leader of the second group of hairs two and James the Sunbelt theists appears likewise as the head of the third group of parents we we see that Jesus paired his apostles to buy to and that they form these groups interestingly although it's not obvious maybe from so reading of these passages Ellen White tells us in design pages page two ninety two at the head of one of the groups in which the apostles are divided stands the name of Phil design pages two ninety two a new CPC that very clearly here but he was the leader of the second set of parents to Mark chapter ten versus forty two to forty five Jesus has another important principle of leadership that he brings out to them the context of the passage is actually his foretelling his crucifixion for the third time to the apostles but it's as if they didn't hear anything that he had set a are thinking only about their future positions in the coming kingdom and James and John even asked to sit on his right and left hand in the preceding verses and so Jesus asked to clarify for them the vast difference between worldly leadership among unbelievers and spiritual leadership in the church no sweetie 's house think of it Jesus called them to himself and said to them you know that those are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them sorry in their grade 's exercise authority over them yet it shall not be so among you but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant whoever of you desires for the first shall be slave of all for even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life a ransom for many so spiritual leadership requires spiritual attitude spiritual attitude service of course that is given through the Holy Spirit and after Christ's resurrection the apostles were to wait in Jerusalem until they were endued with power from on high as it says in Luke twenty four forty nine course asked one verse four is the same wait until I you are you will be baptized with the spirit not many days from now so in summary this sort of brief overview of leadership that we see in the Gospels Jesus was sent by the father to save us and therefore was made or appointed apostle just as the twelve were made apostles by Jesus and sent out on a mission first to Israel as a nation and then to the whole world the apostle Paul Eckert Jesus instructions when he describes his own mission of preaching the gospel as to the Jew first and also to the Greek Romans one sixteen cell with this background of what apostleship means we can better understand the description of Jesus in Hebrews chapter five as an apostle and how the apostles he appointed and sent out word to be leaders like him to be representatives his representatives his ambassadors as Paul described in sect contents chapter five so in order to understand Jesus as our high priest now as let's turn back to Hebrews five him Paul describes the qualifications that were necessary for the high priest according to the Old Testament and the Levitical high priest had certain qualifications it wasn't just you know that simply the best man for the job some speak but it's not the kind of qualifications that we would ordinarily expect weaknesses qualify and enable the high priest up compassion notice what he says for every high priest taken from among men is appointed for men in things pertaining to God that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins he can have compassion on those were ignorant going astray since he himself is also subject to weaknesses and so the priests were to not forget where they came from there also were subject to weaknesses as we high priest was not to suppose that ordination somehow made him better than mere mortals or holier yes he was wholly representative of us to the father and yet still human mediating between God and man as a type of Jesus as our high Priest and God 's desire is for us all to be his holy people to introduce people to Jesus to the truth of his Word and to represent him as his ambassadors and also it's pointed out that if we could before we leave the previous slide notice that it's it points out that he himself is also subject to weakness and verse three my reason here he ought to ask for the people so for himself to offer for sins verse three so the high priest had to offer sacrifices for his own sins which is a reminder again that he is on the same level as all of us who come to God is not higher or about them and then Hebrews chapter five verse four so the first main point weaknesses qualify and enable the high priest passion second point notice no man takes this honor to himself but he who is called by God just as Aaron was now this is what we saw also in connection with Jesus Christ he didn't appoint himself he didn't bear witness to himself he said if I bear witness of myself my witness is not true and so here also known one takes this honor to himself he has to be called by God in this principle unfortunately seems to have been forgotten in this whole debate over the ordination of women we have forgotten our own history as to how our biblical understanding of ordination was established there was actually in the eighteen forties as the Adventist church was forming up ministers who went out that were not genuine minister Denis ministers and in fact Ellen White refers to them in early writings as self appointed men this is she had a vision is published in early writings page ninety eight to one oh two called under the chapter heading gospel order and this is actually her second vision the first one was in eighteen fifty this one was in September September thirtieth eighteen fifty two and she says what the cause you timewise notice what she says men whose lives are not wholly and who are unqualified to teach the present truth enter the field without being acknowledged by the church or the brethren generally and what is the result of confusion and this union confusion and disunion on page ninety eight she says this self-centered man were a curse to the costs a curse to the class and not some few have this handout that I gave out earlier like to just refer to that at this point yet that's right during Harold nineteen ninety and I'd like us to look at paragraph thirteen in the middle line the end of line for the Holy Spirit is wanting in our work this event nothing frightens me more than to see the spirit of variance manifested by our brethren we aren't dangerous ground when we cannot meet together like Christians and courtesy and courteously examine controverted points I feel like fleeing from the place lest I received the mold of those who cannot him investigate the doctrines of the Bible those who cannot impartially examining evidences of a position that differs from nerves are not fit to teach in any department of God 's cause what we need is the baptism of the Holy Spirit without this we are no more fitted to go forth to the world and where the disciples after the crucifixion of their Lord Jesus knew their destitution Terry in Jerusalem until they should be endued with power from on high every teacher must be a learner that his eyes may be anointed to see the evidences of the advancing truth of God the themes of the sun of righteousness must shine into his own heart if he would in part by two others so we we need to have that attitude of seeking together the truth not just for me to try on clicks or camps launching what might be cured to be innocent but really unkind missiles at each other notice of the market Hebrews chapter five verse four again that no one takes us on himself but he that is called of God as was Aaron so how was Aaron called well let's look at Exodus twenty eight verse one axis twenty eight verse one K Aaron your brother and his sons with him from among the children of Israel that he may minister to me as priest Aaron and Aaron 's sons laid out by who Eleazar of them are so God was a true process of hypnosis was speaking for God here is the prophet of prophecy appointed Aaron Moses appointed Aaron according to God 's word as high priest so through prophecy errands right as high priest to be the spiritual leader of Israel was called into question by some and this is found in number sixteen and might be helpful for us to review review of this new history Cora the sun is are the son of call have the son of Levi with Dave in an apartment is rented by quite adenoviral essentially lie happen on the sun appellate sons of Reuben men and they rose up before Moses with some of the children of Israel two hundred and fifty leaders and congregation representatives of the congregation men of renown so these are all leaders priests and leaders of the update nation they gathered together against Moses and Aaron said to them you take too much upon yourselves for all the congregation is holy every one of them and the Lord is among them why didn't you exalt yourselves above this assembly of the Lord now this had the biblical ring of truth actually where it set all the congregation is holy perhaps they were remembering what was sad and axis nineteen verses five and six where God says now therefore if you obey my voice indeed keep my covenant you shall covenant you shall be a Chilean treasure and me above all people and first fix you shall be unto me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation so a kingdom of priests holy nation sound like this is right all the congregation are holy they said it seemed biblical of course you might remember that Satan himself in the wilderness temptation when Jesus quoted Scripture from some what the Temple for it is written he shall than angels shall bear you up in your hands lest you dash your foot against a stone pussy left out are wearing it says also there in the same sentence that the Angels would keep him in all his ways second important part that was inconvenient and sometimes were tempted maybe to only look at part of what Scripture says it's important look at all of what Scripture says or we could be led astray even by Scripture if were not careful so Moses prayed and said that God would indicate whom God has chosen in number sixteen for and he addressed correlated by the ringleader as the most responsible in verses eight to eleven the others didn't even pay most of us enough respect apparently becoming hear him they charged him with being a dictator verse twelve thirteen and we know how that ended out if you look at the context and versus thirty one to thirty three that says that the earth swallowed up Cora Dave Byron with their families and possessions in the two hundred and fifty men who burned incense and were leaders in the rebellion were consumed by fire now with such miraculous judgment from God against rebellious leaders you might think that the people would respond with humility and acceptance that this was clearly God 's will write but in fact it is consistent to some surprise that the people do not respond that way if we look at number sixteen forty it says on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron saying you have killed people of the Lord you have killed the people who are now and we just remove the earth swallowed them up in the fire came down from God and the power of the people that were offering incense but somehow the people twisted that against Moses and Aaron as being murderers of God 's chosen people God 's chosen leaders and if God had not intervened with his visible presence in the clouds and glory and it says in verse forty nine by the way with more than fourteen thousand seven hundred died in the one four two thousand five flag that followed this rebellion until finally Aaron God 's chosen high priest offered incense and maybe talking point so how was this supposed to help could this be resolved it seemed like there was no resolution to this problem well the Lord had each of the twelve tribes submit a broad staff plus a rod the tribe of Levi with parents name written on it and we know of course as we look at number seventeen versus one to ten in the end the one that butted and blossomed white and bore ripe almonds was described Aaron 's rod I guess the other leaders silently took their Ronson in the discussion I find interesting and statement in town daily just look at the highlighted part of this before and I couldn't part new vital powers given to the dry rot and naturally no preeminence above the heads of the other tribes that the priesthood was founded not upon natural qualifications and gifts but upon the power of the spirit which God communicates according to the choice of his wisdom and which he had imparted to Aaron through his consecration with holy anointing while and we might think also a first against twelve eight to eleven verse eighteen where the gifts of the Spirit are given as God wills as pleases him not as Mike please ask this is from a commentary by Kyle and then a truer very helpful scholars of the nineteenth century the customer looking more now had no Doctor Hebrews five we can see how these two principles that we look at that no one takes this honor to himself and that they are a high priest Jesus has weaknesses as we all do is inviting Christ's life verse five it says so also Christ glorified not himself be made a high priest Christ did not make himself priest he received office the office from the father and this is mentioned here than in quoting Psalm one hundred and ten he that sat on to him thou art my son to day have I begotten the verse six and he says also in another place thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek so these quotations from song to verse seven Psalm one hundred and ten verse four prove that Jesus was already called him by God 's high priest even before the Levitical priesthood came to an act in other words Jesus was qualified by Scripture as spoken by God just as in the case of Aaron so also for Jesus God through his Word is the one who indicates who is qualified and on what basis we cannot qualify ourselves any more than we can call ourselves or send ourselves even in the case of Jesus becoming high priest God has specified and already through David that this would happen that Jesus would be called high priest and then the second qualification Jesus weaknesses while on her qualify him to be high priest notice versus seventy nine who in the days of his flesh when it offered up prayers and supplications with vehement cries and tears to him who is able to save him from death and was heard because of his godly fear though he was a son yet he learned obedience by the things which he suffered and having been perfected he became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey so the he offered up prayers and supplications the father plan each day for him as we saw in the previous seminar seminar number two and he often saved him from death because his hour had not yet come many verses we could look on I thought that he learned obedience a good leader is also a good follower she shows leadership by example first Corinthians eleven verse one said the he followers of me even as I also am of Christ one hundred as you know we didn't obedience come naturally to him and easily as we saw in seminar number one it not did not always come easily to him Matthew four verse three some have this refers to his being tempted to make stones into bread some say well were not tempted is anyone here tempted to turn stones into bread if you've heard that mentioned but it misses the whole point the point of the idea is that as Jesus said we have mustered size faith we can move mountains we can do works that no one else could do faith is the point not working of miracles and temptation that was presented to Jesus was the desire to exercise a miracle working faith rather than God 's will which is plain and simple sometimes it's too maybe dull it might seem for us to simply carry out God 's will day by day but that is in fact what qualifies us for greater responsibilities Jesus learned to obey it says also by the things which he suffered we can think of Philippians chapter two verse eight where he humbled himself and became obedient to death even the death of the cross humility precedes honor James for first ten tells us that when we submit ourselves to God resist the devil he will flee from us humble ourselves inside the Lord and he will live desktop first Peter five five six has the same regarding faithfulness so Jesus was his weakness as this is offering a person 's publications his learning of obedience and also his faithfulness it says in Hebrews chapter three verse two that Jesus was thanks all take him who appointed him and of course that is the father Jesus was faithful and obedient to the father who appointed who sent into the world he said in John eight twenty nine I do always those things that please him Jesus did not entrust himself to human beings he entrusted himself always to God as if God has sent us he will take care of us Hebrews chapter thirteen verse six says the Lord is my helper I will not fear what man shall do unto me so the important thing for us is to make sure we follow God 's plan for our lives to seek each day and not our own plan then God will work in student will and to do of his good pleasure turning to some of the references in Scripture to leadership gifts we can find in first complete reversal to the Bishop overseer must be blameless husband of one wife temperate so reminded of good behavior despicable able to teach able to teach and Titus one verse nine holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and convict those who contradict so it's important to learn teaches how to teach and teach faithfully God 's word second Timothy two verse two and the things that you've heard from me among many witnesses commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also cc the chain of instruction Paul teaching Timothy and he is to teach others who in turn will be able to teach still others this is the faithfulness that is expected of leaders secondly four versus two to five again Paul says that simply preach the word be ready in season and out of season convince rebuke exhort with all long-suffering patients and teaching for the time will come when they will not tour sound dock we can learn much also from a chapter in the book desire pages called he working twelve should describes a number of the disciples or apostles of Jesus in that chapter and I find a lot of instruction in thinking about John the apostle she says that John's was the most receptive spirit he was younger than the others and with more of the child's confiding trust he opened his heart to Jesus Bessie came more in sympathy with Christ and through him the savior 's deepest spiritual teaching was committed to his people page two ninety two he was crowned and ambitious to be first in the kingdom of God remember week we saw that already in previous seminar but day by day John in contrast with the zones violent spirit he beheld the tenderness for parents of Jesus heard his lessons of humility and patience he opened his heart to the divine influence the last seminar we talked about the importance of our hearts opening them to God he opened his heart to the divine influence and became not only a here but a doer of the Savior 's words self was hidden in Christ he learned where the oak of Christ and to bear his burden almost in Haitian eagerness on my life the Angels wait for opportunities also to help us in reaching people for the kingdom and so as we go out and minister in the neighborhoods tomorrow keep this promise in my desire of ages page two ninety seven with almost impatient eagerness angel 's wings dropped and is to help us in reaching people for the kingdom unfortunately our time is so quickly maybe we can continue this and we will have some questions and in our next but at times over so let's sound is how applies in this seminar number three will continue and finish going to seminar number for your next take five minutes of this message was recorded in Key West to twenty fourteen Phoenix Arizona USC a supporting ministry of the
