father to save us and therefore was made or appointed apostle just as the twelve were made apostles by Jesus and sent out on a mission first to Israel as a nation and then to the whole world the apostle Paul Eckert Jesus instructions when he describes his own mission of preaching the gospel as to the Jew first and also to the Greek Romans one sixteen cell with this background of what apostleship means we can better understand the description of Jesus in Hebrews chapter five as an apostle and how the apostles he appointed and sent out word to be leaders like him to be describes the qualifications that were necessary for the high priest according to the Old Testament and the Levitical high priest had certain qualifications it wasn't just you know that simply the best man for the job some speak but it's not the kind of qualifications that we would ordinarily expect weaknesses qualify and enable the high priest up compassion notice what he says for every high priest taken from among men is appointed for men in things pertaining to God that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins he can have compassion on those were ignorant going astray since he himself is also subject to weaknesses and so the priests were to not forget where they came from there also were subject to weaknesses as we high priest was not to suppose that ordination somehow made him better than mere mortals or holier yes he was wholly representative of us to the father and yet still human mediating between God and man as a type of Jesus as our high Priest and God 's desire is for us all to be his holy people to introduce people to Jesus to the truth of his Word and to represent him as his ambassadors and also it's pointed out that if we could before we leave the previous slide notice that it's it points out that he himself is also subject to weakness and verse three my reason here he ought to ask for the people so for himself to offer for sins verse three so the high priest had to offer sacrifices for his own sins which is a reminder again that he is on the same level as all of us who come to God is not higher or about them and then Hebrews chapter five verse four our biblical understanding of ordination was established there was actually in the eighteen forties as the Adventist church was forming up ministers who went out that were not genuine minister Denis ministers and in fact Ellen White refers to them in early writings as self appointed men this is she had a vision is published in early writings page ninety eight to one oh two called under the chapter heading gospel order and this is actually her second vision the first one was in eighteen fifty this one was in September September thirtieth eighteen fifty two and she says what the cause you
