Hello, friends. Welcome to the Seed Pod for kids. Thank you for joining me today as we spend time with our friend Jesus. Spending time with Jesus is the best way to start your day. Let's begin our time together. Praising him. William Cushing wrote the words to this ham under his wings in the 1890s. When he was a teenager, he decided he wanted to become a minister. So he went to school and became a pastor. He was known as a very caring and loving minister to all the churches he pastored in New York State. In fact, he was known to be very generous, giving all the money that he had to help a young blind girl to go to school. He ended up suffering a stroke and could not be involved in full-time ministry, but he still wanted to be active in ministry. So you know what he did? He prayed that God would show him how he could continue ministering even with his physical challenges. God answered that prayer, and Williams started writing hymns. He wrote over 300 hymns in gospel songs. Some of them are very familiar to us today, like when he cometh, hiding in mering the bells of heaven, and there'll be no dark valley I nervous wings. I am safely under his pressure, enjoyment there. My heart life. Limes are more sheltered. Army, sign safe, ever. Welcome to hide his word. A special program where we take a few minutes to hide God's word in our hearts. Let's go ahead and get started. We are going to be learning Psalm 91, verse 14. I really love the last three verses of Psalm 91. And there's a little bit of a shift before in verses one through 13. It's the author writing. Now it's shifting, and now it's God speaking because he, that's us people because he has set his love upon me. That's God. Therefore, I will deliver him. Is that a promise? Yes, it is. I will set him on high. What is God promising to do to set us on high? Because he has known my name. That is such an encouraging verse. I just, oh, I love it. So let's say this. I'll say it maybe two more times. Just kinda listen. Try to say along with me if possible, and then I'll let you repeat after me. Here we go. Because he has set his love upon me, therefore I will deliver him, I will set him on high because he has known my name. Let me say that one more time, because he has set his love upon me. Therefore, I will deliver him. I will set him on high because he has known my name. Isn't that wonderful? I want you to say the phrases after me. So I'll start. You repeat, because he has set his love upon me, therefore, I will deliver him. I will set him on high because he has known my name. Good job. Let's do it one more time, because he has set his love upon me. Therefore, I will deliver him, I will set him on high because he has known my name. Great job. We're gonna continue reviewing this promise and learning, and you are doing such a good job. Keep up the good work. Hi boys and girls, welcome back. We are starting a new story about a new person in the Bible. It's a really special one, and we're gonna learn about him week after week. Do you know what his name is? I'm sure many of you have this name because it's a really popular name. I know 1, 2, 3, probably at least five people with this name. It starts with an E and it goes e l I. Elijah. Elijah. We're gonna learn about Elijah this week. Oh, this is so exciting. These stories are amazing about how God was working through one man to help bring his people back to him. And did you know that God wants to work in each one of our lives? I've been reading from my devotions, oh, all through the parables of Jesus. And there have been a lot of things that I've realized, wow, God needs to change my heart in different areas, in different things. And when he does and when I surrender to him, then he can use me in a really amazing way to help others to turn to him. And after all, that's our gold. We wanna learn about Jesus. We wanna share Jesus with others, and when he comes back, we will be ready. And I wanna be ready. How about you? Well, let's pray before we get started with our story today. Dear Lord, thank you for your willingness to be patient with us and to work with us and to change our hearts because we cannot change our own hearts, but we can give you our hearts and let you do that work in us. So we just pray that you will do that today in Jesus' name, amen. When the Israelites first wanted a king, the prophet Samuel reminded them that it was not God's plan for them to have any king except God himself. They didn't need a king. God was their king. He was their ruler. And that way every nation would know that his people were trusting their powerful God. Not a man, not an army, not some worthless idol. But now they had two kings, and sometimes both of them worshiped idols. Isn't that terrible? Yeah. And it's sad too. J Boham became king of the 10 tribes in the north after they refused to accept Solomon's son as their king ger Baum's kingdom was called Israel or the Northern Kingdom. Now, you might want to get a Bible map or have your parents help you look at a map so that you can kind of see how this kingdom was divided. 10 of the tribes in the north went with j Beum. Jer Beum used to work for Solomon. Then the two tribes in the south, they stuck with Solomon's son, Riha, BOEM. So you have the kingdom in the north, and that was called Israel. And the kingdom in the south was called Judah or the Southern Kingdom. So now the tribes are divided. When Jerone became king, he started thinking jealous thoughts. Oh boy, here we go. So what did he decide to do? Let's look it up. You know, something that's really interesting about the Bible, or good I should say about the Bible, is that it doesn't just tell us the good things. It also tells us the things that weren't so good so that we can learn. And we can see that the people in the Bible times, they were human just like we are. They made mistakes. We make mistakes, but God is always there to love us and to forgive us when we repent and turn back to him. So let's go to One Kings. One Kings Chapter 12, one Kings chapter 12, one Kings is in the Old Testament. We've been going through the Bible. We've started out with Genesis long time ago, and we went through Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, judges Ruth, first and second Samuel, and now we're in one Kings chapter 12. One Kings chapter 12, verse 26. You can go get a Bible. You can look this up right along with us. In fact, I would encourage you to do that. The more that you practice looking up these verses, the easier it'll get and the easier that it'll get, the more fun it'll be. It's kinda like practicing the piano when you first start out. It's like, Ugh, this is hard. And you're like trying to play and figure out your fingers and how does it go? And then as time goes by and you become more and more familiar, then all of a sudden it's like, wow, this is, this is kind of fun. That's how it is looking up verses in the Bible. Verse Kings chapter 12, verse 26. We're gonna read 26, 27, 28, 29, and 30, those five verses. Here's what it says. When Gerald Baum said in his heart, now the kingdom may return to the house of David. If these people go up to offer sacrifices in the house of the Lord at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will turn back to their Lord Ray Bam, king of Judah. They'll kill me and go back to Ray Ba, king of Judah. Therefore, the king asked advice, made two calves of gold and said to the people, it is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem and here are your gods. Oh, Israel, which brought you up from the land of Egypt. And he set up one in Bethel and the other he put in Dam, this thing became a sin. So the people went into worship before the one, as far as damn Gerbo is afraid that his kingdom, his 10 tribes are going to leave him and go back and join up with the other tribes. And he says, ah, how can I keep them from doing that? And he's like, well, the, the temple is in Jerusalem, and so my people will have to go to Jerusalem. And then when they, the more that they go there, the more friends they're gonna make, and then they're going to look around and be like, oh, I wanna be here so I know I'm going to make it so that they can worship here on our own territory. And so that's what he did. He made two calves of gold and told the people, here are your gods. Oh, isn't that terrible? Yeah. Just as God had told them, some of the Levites were still living among the different tribes. And jib Beum tried to get them to be priests for his idol worship. He said, Hey, you guys are Levis. You work in the, in the whole sacrificial system. Why don't you just work for me? You can help us here in our own country, in our land. And when they refused to do that, then what did he do? Let's look at verse 31. Verse 31. He made shrines on the high places and made priests from every class of people who are not the sons of Levi. He decided, okay, well then I'm just gonna make priests from anybody. So if it's, if he was walking down the street and he said, Hey, hey, hey, come here. Come here. You look like a good priest. You want a job? I'll pay ya. You can come be my priest. That's what he was doing. Just picking some random person to come be his priest for his idols. Does this sound like a very good thing? No. Before long, many levies and other people who were choosing to be loyal to God, they saw what was going on and they said, Uhuh, this is not okay. And when people go against God, bad things happen because God can't be there. He can't bless them. So they said, we're moving. Let's move to Judah. We can worship God without being afraid. So a few of them did that, but not everybody, most people chose to stay and most of them worshiped Jira Baum's idols at the place where he had set them up. This does not sound good, does it? No. Do you think that it made God sad when he saw his people worshiping idols? Yes. Do you think he would give up trying to save the people in the 10 tribes? No. God never gives up on us. He loves us. And until people push his spirit away forever and until they refuse to change their wrong choices, God will never give up. Do you remember Solomon? He made some bad choices, didn't he? He started worshiping idols. But did God give up on him? No, he didn't. And God doesn't give up on us either. Aren't you glad? Let's pray. Lord, thank you for never giving up on us, for giving us chance. After chance. We just pray and ask that you will be with us today in everything that we do, in our work, in our play, in our school, in our chores, the errands that we run, that you'll help us to stay close to you, stay connected to you, and that we will be a light and a witness and an example to those who were around, maybe our friends, maybe just strangers at the store. Pray that you'll help us to spread your love to others. In Jesus' name, amen. Our memory verse this week is from Matthew chapter six, verse eight. Matthew chapter six, verse eight. It says, your father knows the things you have need of before you ask him. Wow. So God knows what we need before we ask. Yeah. That's what this verse is saying, which is so wonderful. It can give us peace when we're afraid or when we're stressed. It can give us peace because we know that God knows what we need. Even before we ask Your father, know the things you have before you. Your father knows. Your father knows the things you before you before Matthew six, your Father.
