Heads or Tails?  Your Choice!

Well, it's a privilege to be here Michael.

Thank you for inviting me My name is David Obermiller.

I'd like to introduce Myself and my wife there sitting up there with the 2 children.

It's hope You know my hope can be built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness.

She's almost 2, And you can probably guess why she's named Omega.

By the way, Omega is feminine in Greek, in case you're wondering about that.

But it means last, and my wife and I wanted something that would communicate to us and to the world and to be a continual reminder to our daughter that we live in the last days and that we are God's last people, the remnants, if you will.

You know, Adventists are supposed to give the last message of mercy to a dying world and Of course we are in need of God's mercies.

He's about 10 months now, and his name is Orion.

Friends, I hope you look forward to the day when you look up into space in the clouds parts and there, as we are told, through the open space in Orion comes the 1 we look for.

Now my wife's father wanted Alpha Justice, but we didn't like Alpha.

Our children, you know, mercy and justice meet together.

She'll give him kisses and all that good stuff.

You know, when God comes, it's not just about God administering justice to a world that needs to be disciplined.

When God administers justice, it will be in our favor.

Our justice is vindication, not discipline.

So anyway, that's something about my family and I, or more about my family than I.

This morning, I hope you don't mind, I changed the sermon from what's in the bulletin.

That won't get me discipline here, will it?

Well, I pray about it and Michael really threw me off.

And normally, you know, a church doesn't want a sermon until, you know, Wednesday or something, Thursday.

So I'm very accustomed to praying a long time about each church I preach at.

And he was really about a month out, I think is when he started asking me, and I was like, what?

So I prayed and prayed and prayed and prayed and prayed, and I gave him a title, and I kept praying and praying and praying, and it come out different than what's on the paper there.

Why don't we start with prayer this morning?

Lord, this morning we thank you that we have the privilege to worship because, Lord, great is thy faithfulness unto me, unto us.

Lord, we are beyond able with words to express that real faithfulness of yours.

I pray that you would enable us through the act of worship to comprehend it more deeply.

I pray, Lord, through the act of worship that we would be somehow changed, that we can demonstrate our gratitude in the way that we live our lives.

Father, I pray that we would demonstrate our gratitude, not only by word, but by action in everything we do, because great Lord is thy faithfulness.

Father, we praise you for your goodness, and I praise you for the opportunity to share the word before any group.

But Lord, I am not what is desired to be heard this morning.

I believe, Lord, that these people came to hear you, they came to meet you and not me.

They came to hear your voice and not mine.

And I pray therefore, Lord, that through me, that you would speak, through your word, that you would speak to them.

And when the day is done, that if anybody is remembered, it would be you, your word, and your faithfulness.

You promised to many others that you would guide their words.

And I claim those promises because you are faithful, Lord, unto us.

We pray this in Jesus' name, the greatest demonstration of your faithfulness, Amen.

Okay, you have no idea what you just volunteered yourself for.

I'm going to flip it, you're going to call it, okay?

But first I've got to tell you what you're playing for.

If you call it right, then the church winds up victorious.

Okay, Now this gets a little personal too.

If you call it right, you wind up victorious in life.

If you call it wrong, you wind up losing.

You can still be victorious in Jesus Christ, though.

Is the destiny of the church, is your destiny as fickle and as arbitrary as the flip of a coin?

Don't we act like there's sometimes so little certainty that it would seem as though our prospects of victory and success are about as good as I'd like you to turn to Deuteronomy this morning.

Several things have happened in my life recently that have caused me to think about these things.

Deuteronomy chapter 28, we're gonna begin in verse 1.

God speaking through Moses here, he says in chapter 28, verse 1, and it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments, which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth.

I wanna look at the first 13 verses this morning and look at some other passages of scripture.

But we begin here with this 1 verse, and I want to pull this part a little bit, you notice the verse starts off with what word?
