I Will Not Rest- Isaiah 62: 1-7- Part 2

Now will you turn to Isaiah the 62nd chapter.

We want to continue our study where we left it off last Friday night.

For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth.

And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory.

And thou shalt be called by a new name which the mouth of the Lord shall name." here as we noted a week ago, is the glorious picture of the triumph, the final triumph of the Church of God in this world.

In the 60th chapter, he's speaking of the same thing.

Arise, shine, for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.

For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people, but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee, and the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising." Here the righteousness of God revealed in his Church is compared to light, glory, like streams of light reaching the entire world.

You notice in the 62nd chapter in the second verse it says the Gentiles will see it.

And the 60th chapter in the third verse says they'll come to it.

Ah, friends, the world is waiting to see that demonstration of love, of light.

And when they see it, they're going to come.

Not everybody, of course, but the honest in heart, in every nation, in every church, all over this world, there are longing hearts crying out for something which will show the way out of human selfishness.

So that's what is the matter with the world, isn't it?

That's what's making the war over there in Vietnam.

That's what's making a thousand other troubles everywhere.

And God proposes to give in and through his church a demonstration of something better, something sweeter, something more wonderful.

I like the way it's put here in this little book, Mount of Blessings, page 148.

Righteousness is holiness, likeness to God, and God is love, 1 John 4, 16.

Righteousness is love, and love is the light and the life of God.

So this glory that is going to fill the church and be reflected out all over the world is the glory of love.

And it's love revealed in practical ministry, as Isaiah 58 shows.

Every member of the Church will be engaged in medical missionary work.

That's the picture of the closing triumph of God's movement.

That's why we're getting a training, isn't it?

But it's the love that prompts all that, that is the real revelation.

Without that, it's just professionalism or commercialism or mere humanitarianism.

But oh, when love is the impelling motive, when love is the thing that leads us to get our training and use it, when love is the motive that prompts us to help others, What a demonstration, not only here on this planet, but to all the universe, for they're all looking on to see this closing demonstration.

The Gentiles shall see thy righteousness and all kings thy glory, and the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising." No wonder then we have this statement, for Zion's sake will I not hold my peace and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness and the salvation thereof is a lamp that burneth.

How is that burning yearning to be expressed?

Notice In the sixth verse of 62, I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night.

Ye that are the large remembrances, take ye no rest, and give him no rest till he establishes, until he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth." In other words, this restlessness, this divine yearning that serves the hearts of the true people of God, will be expressed in supplication, pleading with God, How long will it last?

Till he establish, until he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

Till the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth.

I called your attention last week to those 3 expressions of not resting.

And in the seventh verse, give him no rest.

So all around there is to be a spirit of stirring up, pleading with God until something happens.

This righteousness is seen in the Church, and God's people are a complete demonstration of his beautiful plan of loving ministry.

Now tonight I want to study with you how that's going to be brought about.

Notice the 61st chapter in the last verse.

It comes immediately before what we've been reading tonight.

And it's all part of 1 vision and 1 presentation in the original book as written by Isaiah.

Notice how righteousness is going to come.

For as the earth bringeth forth her buds, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth, So the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

How will righteousness and praise be caused to spring forth before all the nations?

As the earth bringeth forth her bud and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth.

So the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

Now this is very important, friends, that we understand this, Because too many people are looking for something to drop out of the sky, when it's got to spring out of the earth.

There are things that do come out of the heavens.

The rain comes out of the sky, doesn't it?

But friends, the fruit doesn't fall out of the sky.

How many of you have been working somewhat, at least, with gardens during this last month?

So we're prepared to evaluate this text, to understand it.

I just want to study it with you a little tonight.

Link together the operations of agriculture, the work with the plow and the harrow, the hoe and the rake.

Link those operations together with this wonderful promise of God to bring righteousness and praise, to bring it forth before all the nations.

Will you read that last verse of the 61st chapter with me, Isaiah 61, 11, all together.

For as the earth bringeth forth her buds, and as the garden causeth the things that are shown in it to spring forth, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

Well, the rain helps, but rain alone won't do it.

It takes cultivation of the things we want.

And if you want a certain crop, you must plant 1, a certain seed.

All these things enter into getting a crop.

None can be neglected if we desire the harvest.

And as the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

So let's study it just a little while tonight.

It Depends on what you want, as she said.
