Why don't we start with the word of prayer?

Let's ask God to bless us with his Holy Spirit as we jump into the message father in heaven We just thank you so much again for just Jesus And Lord, thank you for the Spirit of God who testifies of Jesus We pray and ask God that you would lead us closer to you Father in heaven, we're praying for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit We're praying for a better understanding of your word and your will for our lives That is our prayer God in Jesus name.

Saturday night for the fall festival raise your hand Okay, that was just an amazing event If you miss the fall festival You miss 1 of our biggest community outreaches and it was so amazing Just to see many of our church members come on out I want to thank Harlan and Amy and just their hard work and putting this all together and the people who helped them I mean they put out so much candy, okay, and I'll tell you this by the time I left the fall festival, I was 5 pounds heavier.

I'm going to get into my pants the next day.

I mean, it is just like, but it was a blessing to see many People come out from the community and their and the reason why is because they're looking for safe alternatives than what the world offers 1 lady was actually asking and she says are you guys gonna do this again next year?

And she there's not a Affiliation with the Seventh-day Adventist Church, But more and more as God calls us to reach out to our community, we're going to see people come out of the woodworks.

1 of my favorite parts about this fall festival is this, Pastor Annell was not involved in the planning of it.

Now I'm not saying Amen because, oh yeah, I don't want more work.

I say Amen because it's awesome to see church member initiated events take place.

And that's what we need more of if you're waiting till pastor Nell tells you what to do.

You're gonna be waiting a long time God calls you to take an Intentionality in your ministry.

Today's message is called the light bearer.

I'm gonna bear my soul open to you I have a a traumatic event or events that happened to me when I was younger When I was younger my parents, you know, they came from India I was born in America So this was a time where?

You know movies the Hollywood began to really blow up.

It was like the 80s and 90s okay, and their horror movies began to grow and as a young Indian American who had parents who really didn't understand the best of English, when they saw me watch things, They didn't think too much of it.

So I'm not blaming them But somehow I found this sort of what's the word I'm looking for.

I found this curiosity with horror movies and let me tell you something I Watch so many horror movies that I could probably name still to this day What took place in those horror movies their titles there and the actors of those things It has permanently warped my brain and I thank Jesus he can change me.

Amen But this is who I am and when I see something I think oh that reminds me of la la la Or I hear something I'm like, oh that reminds me of la la la But What was very traumatic about the whole thing is this I would many times watch the movies with people around me Then when people were not around me a terror begin to set in I Became so terrified of the dark and I mean it was so bad I feared sleeping at night in a room by myself and there was 1 particular thing that I was afraid of and it was dolls and my sister's dolls My family Lord willing I'll have 1 day will not have dolls The eyes of dolls watch you guys you're walking by and still to this day like I see dolls and I'm always like now I don't like that thing, You know, no offense to Mr.

Feeblemeister, he's not a doll, he's a puppet, right?

I actually feared the night time for a certain phase of my childhood.

I remember 1 night, my mom, she's like, you're going to have to sleep in that room.

It was on the other side of the house turned off the light and instantly I began to see shadows moving around and I got so scared I actually turned on the light and I ran towards my mom's room and I began pounding on the door.

I'm like, mom let me in, let me in, right?

I'm like, mom let me in I don't want to sleep here alone.

She's like no, you know She knew what I was afraid of but she didn't want to have it So this is how I grew up.

In fact, I was so terrified of dolls at this certain phase of my childhood I never forgot 1 day actually took a doll my sister's doll it was this 1 particular doll I walked over to the oven this is exactly what happened and I made sure my mom was in the living room okay so I went in the kitchen I turned on the oven and I grabbed that doll and I said if you're alive you better tell me I'm gonna throw you in the oven.

And let me tell you something, nothing happened.

But you know what's so interesting about this is that through this time of my just horrifying reality at that time, there was something that brought an element of comfort to me.

Whenever there was danger, I'd run in, I'd turn the light on, and it was like, it's OK.

I never forgot 1 day I was sitting in my room terrified of this Woke up in the middle night and the door to my room was actually opening up in the living room and The rocking chair was moving by itself And I was watching and I was hearing this but here's the thing I was on my bed I can see through the mirror on the door that was on the outside of the door that was open and it reflected to what was in the living room and I could hear and see the rocking chair moving by Itself in the middle of the night and for 2 hours.

I remained completely still I was even afraid to turn on the light and just rush in there.

I Didn't know what to do and I stayed there.

And all of a sudden, my dad gets off work, comes home at 6 a.m., light turns on, I rush right in there and it was my little Pomeranian dog on the rocking chair just sitting there, biting his ankle or whatever he was doing.

But I mean light provided a great comfort to me I mean it was soon as I can get to that light switch.

I knew that there was safety I knew things were gonna get okay when I went to sleep at night There was just this tear on this whore that was over me.

But when light came, it bought just this serenity.

Today we're going to be talking about light.

I'm going to ask you a question right now.

Pretend my ears don't work and you have to raise your hand, okay?

Wow, We're getting scientific here, right?

I like that Any other purposes to light What is it energy, okay.

Yes Gary you're the last 1 God what God's glory.

Go ahead Do your work, okay Royce, you're the last 1 I promise you go ahead give me another purpose of light huh dispels depression okay we have all the various reasons we could think about What light is good for now once you think for yourself, what if there was no more light in the world Can you imagine the world like this right now Do you know there's parts of Canada?

Where it remains dark for throughout the whole day.

I Mean just think about that In fact depression rates go really high and suicide rates go high during that time period or that in that place But Jesus says something so interesting notice what he says right here in John chapter 8 verse 12 He says something so remarkable.

He says these then Jesus spoke again saying I am the what?

Light of the what World he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the what?

Light of Life Jesus makes a remarkable claim.
