Medical Missionaries and their Work

I'm hoping by the end of this weekend that I can meet you personally and hear some of your stories and some of your interests because it is my studied interest to really encourage true medical missionary work.

And I am delighted that you all are here.

Some of you are faculty, is that correct?

I know a number of you are from, have been to Wildwood.

I teach in a number of places and have met a few of you and I hope to meet more.

Currently, I am retired from conventional practice.

I work only in the area of natural remedies and healthful lifestyle counseling, both in the United States and overseas.

I have a little home health retreat in southeastern Minnesota, about 50 miles from Rochester, Minnesota.

There are a lot of them in my community and I have occasion to help them.

The ones in our area are quite poor and they have many children.

Sometimes I've had occasion to get in on some deliveries.

When I have time, though I tell them I'm highly unreliable for that, I try to do prenatal and postnatal checkups when I'm there.

We just had a stop smoking program just 4 miles from our home at a little restaurant.

And we had, surprisingly, at least about 8 participants in that program.

And this is the first time it's been held in that area.

So, and then when I go overseas, I've worked in Europe, Romania primarily, but also I work mostly in Southeast Asia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and with Vietnamese.

So on Saturday night, I'll be sharing a little bit about that program.

When I asked Mark what I should talk about, there were a number of options that were out there.

But he said, well, why don't you give your personal testimony?

So I said, well, that would be easy enough to do, and if it can be an inspiration or a help to any of you here in this room, I would be happy to do it.

And So I've entitled it, The Making of a Medical Missionary.

Now when you think of medical missionary work, what do you think of?

Someone here said they are medical missionary and your name is?

What do you think of when you hear medical missionary worker or medical missionary work?

Someone who uses Christ's methods as outlined in the Ministry of Healing.

Well, I understand from Mark that some of you are studying the Ministry of Healing.

Who is in that group that is studying the Ministry of Healing?

And if you aren't, I guess that should not be a best kept secret and it should be.

Well, that's kind of a general thing, but what is in ministry of healing?

Or maybe someone else can help me out here.

Pure air, sunlight, abstinence, rest, exercise, proper diet, use of water, and trust in your life power.

And it covers, it's addressed to a huge audience that goes from the simple person to physicians and mothers, and this is just a companion for life?

Well, a lot of you know a lot about that.

Well, you know, I have to confess that when I was in your shoes, I didn't know all that.

Does anyone else have some other ideas there that maybe they, from their perspective, what is a medical missionary worker?

I think it's to help people realize that God is the source of healing and to help people to turn their, their scare away from themselves, like trying to find an answer in God, and God has outlined the way that it works, you know, through the laws, so.

I tell people, my partner is the great physician, the great heavenly physician.

That's who I work for and I tell that to many audiences And I share with them that he's on call 24-7.

Furthermore, he never gets tired of hearing our complaints.

And as earthly medical workers and others, we know that that is not always the human tendency.

Well, now we have heard that and sometimes they get called under the category of difficult patients.

But you know, I am convinced that the heavenly physician does not have difficult patients.

He has patients that are needing, patients that need help, people that need something.

Because for God, nothing is impossible and there's no difficulty that he cannot solve.
