The Man In the Snow

Before we open the word this morning, I wanted to give you a quick shot about what's coming from Glow.

And the General Conference Total Member Involvement Initiative, they call it TMI.

It's an interesting acronym that they chose, Total Member Involvement.

And GLOW is launching a program called GLOW 1 Billion under that TMI, total member involvement umbrella with the general conference.

And the lead tract is Certainty in an Uncertain World written by Mark Finley.

It is, that's actually just a picture of the cover.

But it's just, it should be out off the press in about 2 weeks.

And Elder Finley wrote this tract so that it can be translated in many, many, many dozens of languages all around the world.

Because the 1 thread, the 1 need that every culture, every individual has is for hope and certainty.

You don't know if you're going to get blown up in a restaurant in Bangladesh or what's going to happen next.

So that's 1 and then this is also just going to be off the press in about 2 weeks, What's Wrong With Grandpa written by John Bradshaw's wife, Melissa, just in time for Halloween.

It's basically the idea is a child sees his grandfather die and what's wrong with grandpa?

Well, the dad says he's sleeping and as they're lowering him into the ground, he says, Daddy, he's going to get all dirty when he wakes up.

So there's some confusion that children have about death.

Then it goes on and gives a short Bible study.

This is the total member involvement website there, tmi.adventist.org.

This morning I'd like us to pray 1 more time before we open the scriptures.

Father, we need your help to rightly understand the Bible.

And it is a solemn worship hour, but also full of joy.

Thank you for all that you've done for us.

Thank you for this testimony that we just heard about Jesus and what He can do.

Father, thank you for all that you've done.

And now as we read the scriptures, please speak power to our hearts.

Speak grace, encouragement, love, instruction.

Help us to get what you want us to get this morning.

And I'm going to read verse, starting at verse 13.

The verse just before that is the famous verse, but I want to focus on 13 to 16 this morning.

The Bible says, "'Til I come, " this is Paul writing under inspiration to the young man Timothy, "'Til I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine, or teaching.

Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership.

Give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all.

Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine.

For in doing this, you will save both yourself and those who hear you." I have a question for you this morning.

As I read this passage recently, I said to myself, What in the world does the apostle mean when he writes under inspiration, you will save yourself and those who hear you.

How many here are a certified lifeguard or have been in the past?

So imagine you're the lifeguard and you see the telltale signs of a small child just out there in the pool or in the ocean And she has just, you know, she's going down and waving her hands and there's no sound, you know, those telltale signs, I'm not a lifeguard.

And you jump into the water, you press past all of her friends, and right as you reach her, you say, come on, save yourself, you can do it, I know you can do it.

So what in the world does the scripture mean?

In doing this, you will save yourself and those who hear you.

I'm going to go through a series of scriptures fairly quickly, okay?

So that's why I have them up on the screen, okay?

3 to 5, For we ourselves were once also foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, hating 1 another.

But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us.

We know 2 Timothy 1 verse 9, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus.

We also know that if we believe, we have the assurance of eternal life.

1 John 5, 13, these things I've written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

We know that salvation is a free, fresh gift every morning.

And I hope every 1 of us here experienced that in our time with Jesus this morning.

So then, what in the world does continue in them?

For in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you mean.
