The Purpose of Prophecy

Well, they say that public speaking is the greatest fear of all humans.

People fear it more than sharks, more than the dark.

The human brain, what it wants most of all is to see a face that is glad to be with it.

A face that shines and says, I'm glad to be with you.

And if that is what our brains crave the most for, which it is, the opposite would be true when we see a face that's not glad to be with us.

So that's why I want you all to put on some big smiles and say together, hi Aaron, welcome to Advent Hope.

No, thank you, I'm really glad to be here.

This is my first time ever at Loma Linda.

Got to meet up with some old really good friends and I was disappointed.

I went to the Village Market and I was looking for...

I said, Chaz, this is Loma Linda, man, take me to the veggie meat factory.

And so he says, I don't know where it is.

So I'm like, let's go to the village market, they'll know.

So we show up and I'm asking people, like, where's the veggie meat factory?

And I asked this 1 lady, she said, well, actually, we don't make it here.

I looked at the can, and it was produced in North Carolina.

You guys have been a blessing to me and everything like that.

Well my name is Aaron Cruz and Carlos forced me into telling you that my grandfather, his name was Joe Cruz, he was a guy who worked at Amazing Facts.

And actually, my name is Aaron Cruz but my first name is actually Joe.

I was named after my grandfather, and so right now, you're listening to Joe Cruz speak.

Well, no, my name has a lot of stuff with it, but I go by Aaron, so don't call me Joseph.

Only my ignorant substitute teachers from back in first grade, They're the ones who mixed up my name.

You've noticed my name is spelled with only 1 A, not 2.

I don't like to waste letters in my family.

I like to say I come out of my mother in 2 ways.

I love my father, Larry, and I have an older sister named Joy Lynn.

She is 2 years and 2 months older than me.

Right now we're living in that 2 month period.

So she gets to rub it in and say she's 3 months, 3 years older than me.

Like I've said a dozen times now, and let's get started with our presentation.

This morning, the sermon is entitled, The Purpose of Prophecy.

Have you ever seen a chart that looks something like this?

Is it so we can make these charts and draw these lines and put these numbers and do some math and do some subtraction multiply and divide all these things?

Maybe that's part of the process, but let me break down the purpose of prophecy into you with 3 words that I want you to walk away today remembering.

The purpose of prophecy is that it gives us confidence.

And most importantly, it gives us Christ.

We're going to be breaking this down and focus, spending the rest, the most of our time, focusing on that third 1 there, Christ.

But we're going to begin by looking at the purpose of prophecy confidence.

In Isaiah chapter 46 verse 10 it says, I make known God declaring, he says, I make known the end from the beginning from ancient times what is still to come." In other words, I can tell the future before it happens.

News anchors can tell you about the present.

But only God can accurately, 100% of the time, tell you about the future.

John 13, verse 19, Now I tell you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe that I am He.

When we study prophecy, when we study in particular the prophecies of the book of Daniel and Revelation, it gives us confidence that the Bible is what it claims to be.

We can trust it where people fail us, where the economy may fail us, where our President may fail us.

Bible prophecy, the Word of God Jesus will not fail us.

If I came up to you and I gave you this book and I said, in this book, there are many predictions, about 100 of them, that predict the next 5 years of your life.

So I give you this book and I said, look at prediction 1, right?

And I predict like something's going to happen to you tomorrow, right?

So then you look at the second prediction, and that comes to pass.

Then the third prediction, and that comes to pass.

And the fourth prediction, I say a month from now, you're gonna be walking down the street and you're gonna trip and look back and there's a suitcase and in that suitcase is a million dollars.

And you're there, this is the fifth prediction, and all of a sudden you trip, are you gonna look back?

You look back, you can see a suitcase, you're just gonna walk away, nah.

No, you're gonna be like, oh, the book said, and You go back and you open it, and it's a million dollars.

So now, what kind of confidence do you have in that book I wrote to you about your life?
