1. How Urgent is This Message?

This message was presented at the GYC 2016 conference, When All Has Been Heard, in Houston, Texas.

We are going to hopefully minister to personal as well as professional and prophetic understanding.

And I want your hearts to be touched as well as your heads.

So I'm going to speak to you from my heart as well as my head.

I'm going to tell you a little bit about my personal story as we begin.

And I'm going to try not to rush because it's just hard to absorb information if it comes in a flash flood.

So we will see how far I get each day, but I'm going to try very hard to minister to your needs.

And I have a helper back here giving you a set of free 24 health tracks.

People are still coming in, but I think we're about ready to get started and I like to be on time to respect your time.

So let's just bow our heads and have prayer And thank you to my helper back there.

And I don't know at 1 point if at 1 point we're supposed to shut the door.

Can you hear me even though the door is open?

By the way, this particular PowerPoint is 1 of my home-crafted ones, but the ones that you will be seeing here after have been professionally developed, they are scripted, they're editable, they are translatable into other languages.

Because 1 of the anointings that the Lord gave us, I am the Health Ministries Director for the Michigan Conference.

My husband, Dane, and I, my husband passed away several years ago, but the Lord called us to produce soul-winning materials for you to use to go win souls.

And I can't wait for you to see how beautiful they are and how easy they are and we build appeals into these.

We deal with the 24 topics that you have in your hand with the balanced living tracts, the tracts are also in a large size.

And each 1 of those tracts has a scripted PowerPoint that is editable.

So if you go to Albania or Italy or France, you can put these materials in the language, contextualize it to your own culture with your own statistics.

And this is already being done in the Middle East and in India and various places so I'm very grateful to let you know about this in relation to those tracks.

So I hope you open your little package, look at all the topics, We don't just deal with the standard health topics.

We deal with topics such as lessons on loss, growth out of grief.

Is that an important topic, dealing with loss and brokenness of all kinds?

What about who can I trust in a society where we are just hacked all the time?

40 million Americans suffer from chronic pain.

Is there such a thing as a pain prone personality?

What can we do to dial down chronic pain?

So this week you're going to have an opportunity to acquaint yourself with these things.

And in the next presentation you'll be able to get a view of what they of what they look like but at this is my introductory program I'm passionate about it so as we begin I would like for us to bow our heads and ask the Lord to be with us in a very, very special way.

Father in heaven, thank you so much for this time that we can spend together.

Please bless and open the heart of each and every hearer.

Open my heart and mouth to speak your words, because this is our moment together to seek you, to find you, to knock, and to hear.

And so I pray that you will be with us and minister to our deepest needs, create that desire and encouragement in our hearts that will propel us forward to your kingdom.

So the question that we are addressing today is how urgent is this message?

When We are living in a society and in a world where young children are being tutored and trained using dolls to behead.

They're beheading their dolls in preparation to perform beheadings on Christians.

We are living in a postmodern society where we have just catapulted over the hill of despair.

And so in the midst of this, Why should we be talking about health?

Why should we be addressing issues of wellness?

You may be asking yourself, why is this woman doing this?

She's probably 1 of these people that lines their clothes up according to color.

She's probably really disciplined and it's easy for her to tell people what to do.

Well it's, it is easy for me to tell people what to do and I'm really praying about that.

But being disciplined is a gift from God, isn't it?

Temperance is not something, I'm the health and temperance director for the Michigan Conference and have been for 15 years.

I've authored 3 books and we have all these power points and great stuff for you to use in evangelism.

And I'll never forget the time that I was introduced in a church in Alabama by the head elder.

I was doing a program there that weekend.

I don't know who got me into this church, but there was not a groundswell of excitement about me being there.

The health temperance director for the Michigan conference, That's enough to clear a building.

So I remember the head elder standing up front and saying, we're so glad, he was praying, we're so glad to have Sister Griffin here to talk to us about health.

And then he said, now health, that's important, but salvation, that's the thing.

I started running away from home when I was 5.

2. God’s Peace Plan

Somebody tell me what you learned last hour that you walked away with.

Attraction is a good thing, if it's attraction to the right thing.

That wasn't in my class, but that's a good thought.

I'm reading through the Great Controversy again and Martin Luther, before he went to Worms, he spent 3 hours of his choices study time in prayer to prepare for that time.

I just said, God, help me to learn how to pray like that.

And trials help us to learn how to pray like that, for sure.

Was anybody in my class last hour that learned anything?

Without hope, information just hurts and crushes.

That's why Jesus brought hope and strength to all with whom he came in contact.

Alright, well I think, my name is Vicki Griffin.

And today we're talking about God's peace plan.

The next class that we're having this afternoon is Mindset Matters, how to develop the mental metal to overcome obstacles and negative naysaying habitual negative attitude.

And then the 1 after that, I can't remember.

Oh, food, mood, addictions, and the brain.

We did that 1 at Brighton Hospital and it's a powerful program.

So as we begin today, this is pulling the camera back and helping us look at the big picture, the big picture, so that we don't get lost in the shrubs.

Did all of you receive your set of glow tracks?

We also have a larger form of those hands are up and though each 1 of those 24 topics you see these lovely pictures this is the program today we produced my husband and I he's passed away now but we produce materials for you to do evangelism with.

Programs that you can edit and use to win souls and gain decisions for Christ.

So the 24 topics that you have in those tracks these are the first 16, 8 and 8.

The next 8 will be ready in a month and they are fully scripted PowerPoints in a short and long version so you can do a 5 to 7 minute presentation or you can do a 30 minute presentation and that's what these are and that's what the images that you are going to see, this is what they look like.

So that you can make appeals, gain decisions for Christ, they are editable, You can take them to another country and change the language.

I did a program in Iceland and I changed all the statistics.

I did 1 in England, changed the statistics, added, swapped slides around.

And so we have this amazing contract with Alamy that has 65 million images and they have written a contract with us that is unheard of in the imaging digital world and we believe that it is God opening the floodgates for Gospel evangelism for you to do.

And we have people using this in their homes.

That's why we do what we do, so that you can be empowered in your ministry.

So as we begin, I would like to begin with prayer, and we're going to take a look at God's peace plan.

Father in heaven, I thank you for this time that we can spend together.

Thank you for each and every precious soul that is here, and I pray that your spirit would move upon our hearts, move upon my mouth and what I say, and the hearers, that you would open our eyes of understanding and give us a heart to learn.

So God's peace plan, finding peace in your crazy, busy world.

Yeah, there's even something called hurry sickness now that people suffer from.

There's a saying, A Chinese proverb, we hurry, we worry, and we bury.

We are so busy, but our lives can be very barren in that busyness.

You know, people will come to me and I, this is very recent.

People come to me and say, how are you doing?

You know, why, shouldn't we say, the Lord is helping me to be fruitful?

Gandhi said this, there is more to life than increasing its speed.

Can you imagine Jesus with the disciples?

Okay, guys, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up.

Come on, come on, come on, come on, come on.

I have some demonics to meet, you know, stuff to do.

And amazingly, Ellen White says that God is calm upon his throne, calm upon his throne.

And there is a quote that I really, really love because we can become so frenzied, so frantic.

And if I can find this, ah, this is incredible.

Christ can look upon the misery of the world without a shade of sorrow for having created man.

In the human heart, he sees more than sin, more than misery.

In his infinite wisdom and love, he sees man's possibilities, the height to which he may attain.

He knows that even though human beings have abused their mercies and destroyed their God-given dignity, yet the Creator is to be glorified in their redemption." Amen?

So, Heaven and hell are involved in the same circumstances to bring about different results.

God allows things that he hates in order to bring about things that he loves.

4. Making Health Practical

So even if your brain is so full you can't think anymore, the pictures are really pretty.

My name is Vicki Griffin and I'm going to have prayer right now and then we will get started.

Father in heaven thank you for this time that we can have together what an amazing healing God you are and we thank you and ask you to be with us give us heart energy help our minds to work and give me the words I need father for each 1 here that your spirit may just drive home what each 1 needs.

So the PowerPoint that you are going to be seeing is not yet available.

But I want you to know that we have these balanced, I'm Vicki Griffin, the Health Ministries Director for the Michigan Conference, and we have these beautiful tracks, they're glow track size and this size, with 24 different topics, and what the Lord has called my department to do is to produce really beautiful scripted PowerPoints for you to use to win souls and gain decisions for Christ.

Well researched, beautiful, you can use them in your home, they're editable, you can take them to your home country and put them in your native language, which is amazing.

So I just want you to know about that and that these are available to you.

Because what good is it if it's just me running around talking?

No, God has something for you to do for his kingdom and it's my job to prepare materials for you that you can use in soul winning.

So today we're talking about foods for thought.

We're taking a look at food, mood, addictions, and the brain.

And as we begin today, I just will tell you, those of you who are new here, I know that I look kind of like a librarian type, okay, that has it all together, but I was a runaway.

In a crazy life, I developed bulimia for 20 years, And God is in the saving business.

And now I am the health and temperance director hired to put the devil out of business.

And so I want to hire all of you to be subcontractors to go out and win souls for Christ, amen?

Now I want to open today with 1 of my favorite Bible stories and it's found in John chapter 5 and it's the story of the man at the pool of Bethesda and the way that the story opens is pretty amazing.

How many years had that man been sitting at that pool, waiting for his miracle, paralyzed from the neck down with no 1 to help him?

And the story opens with a picture of Jesus coming to this man, and it says that Jesus saw him.

And he saw that he had been there a long time.

So for some of you, any of you who yourself or know someone who's had an addiction for a long time, whether it's a food addiction, whether it's a media addiction, whether it's a behavioral addiction, whatever it is, however long it's been, Jesus knows all about it.

The addicted brain is working hard but it needs to learn to work smart and that's what we're all about and the information here is based on this book, Living Free, Finding Freedom from Habits That Hurt.

It's part of a six-session seminar that we have put together that is available to you to use in your home or in your church.

Now, how many of you know the word Katrina?

And what do you associate the name Katrina with?

Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans In August 23, 2005, Hurricane Katrina slammed 5 Gulf states with 175 mile an hour winds zeroing in on the city of New Orleans and 80% of New Orleans was under 20 feet of water.

This storm affected 15 million people, 2, 000 people were killed, and the damage was 75 billion dollars.

It was the costliest hurricane in US history.

Now a broken city, I have a master's degree, before I got into nutrition I was in public administration, I have a master's in public administration, and I used to enjoy working on revitalization plans.

And so 1 thing that we always looked at when we were working on these revitalization plans was infrastructure So a broken city has 2 problems It has damaged infrastructure.

It's the traffic, it's the communication systems, roads, the telecommunications, it's the access of the city that gives it its synchrony, its economy, its vitality, its ability to grow, its dependent on infrastructure that is properly functioning.

And we saw on television people disconnected because the infrastructure was broken down.

You had contaminated water in the streets.

The rescue vehicles couldn't get to the people in need.

And we saw the devastating results of broken infrastructure.

And as a result of broken infrastructure that leads to what?

And on television we saw vandalism, vagrancy, violence as a result of that broken infrastructure.

Now 1 of the things that I love about the Bible is that in Romans chapter 1 verse 20 the Bible tells us that God uses the things that we can see to help us to clearly understand the things that we cannot see.

So as we think about this, A broken city has ceased normal function and it is now switched to what?

Now, you've seen the posters of the little cat hanging on a branch, and it says, hang in there.

You ask people how they're doing in any country, and people have their own version of the phrase, how are you doing?

And in our Western culture, we brag about this.

Oh, I'm traveling here, and then I'm going there, and I'm trying to produce this, and do that, and visit this, and accomplish that.

And instead of saying, you know, that's pretty dumb, They say, wow, how dedicated.

What if I were to say I'm gonna sit in a chair and do nothing for 3 hours and watch the grass grow?

Come on, hurry up, hurry up, hurry, come on guys, I've got to go help the demoniacs.

Get in the boat, hurry up, you know, like we're late, it's the fourth watch.

So I think we need to start focusing on fruitful instead of hurry sickness, which we're all affected with.

The Bible compares our broken minds, our broken, fallen brains, with a city just like that.

It says a person without self-control has the same 2 problems.

The broken brain is, it's broken down, okay, so the infrastructure is broken down and what?

So when we don't have strong intercommunications in the brain, when we don't have that strong, resilient activity from hemisphere to hemisphere and section to section, when it's not vibrant and oxygenated and full of the nutrients and exercise that it needs, and without the thinking patterns that exercise us to excellency, all of these things make us defenseless against the enemy, defenseless.

So what are these brain influences that we contend with?

Some people are genetically more prone to anxiety, depression, addictions.

Would you agree with me that there is a genetic tendency in some people?

You know, the first environment is the environment of the womb and 1 out of every 5 children born has some kind of alcohol effects in the womb.

So that's the first environment of that baby and it's very interesting that the offspring of an obese or a malnourished woman either or doubles the risk of diabetes and obesity in in the child that is born because of switches that that are are activated genetically that's called epigenetics that are activated that change insulin sensitivity in that baby.

Now does that mean that that baby is doomed to be obese or diabetic?

But does it mean that they have a risk factor that they're gonna have to contend with?

Absolutely, so the Lord knows these things.

5. Leaders Lighting The Way

Well, are you all just full of the spirit and encouraged and inspired to move forward in the Lord's work?

I'm glad to see you this morning for this message and tomorrow afternoon for the final message we are going to have Dr.

Zeno Charles Marcel delivering the message and that is an amazing treat.

He's from the General Conference, he goes all over the world and he's so passionate about Christ and about his soon coming and this message.

So I really want to invite you to come, bring your friends to that.

I asked him at the last minute, I said, what do you want to do?

And I just want to tell you before we start, there are some things on the back table for you to take and enjoy.

It's all I have left that I can give away, but I want you to have it.
