When Waters Fail

And Christ is the central figure, but of the narrative it is Elijah.

So I'm just extrapolating on your comment there.

What are things you remember from last night?

Doesn't have to be as eloquent as Brother Raphael.

So just the state of what Israel has become, it just was, so-and-so did like Jeroboam, and Jeroboam was really bad, So it just kind of built up to that until it was like Ahab was worse than all these other guys.

So it was just kind of really setting the tone of what Israel was like at that point.

There was a crescendo building up into the worst political status of Israel.

Spot on, gold star to the academic student in the back because she's Asian.

An important point that you pointed out last night in the text, it started with and Elijah.

It just brought out that He is coming on the scene as like someone different than all the wicked kings that were of his past.

But he was someone different that God used as a servant to do something different.

That conjunction and connects the first 16 chapters to this character named Elijah.

And he's coming onto the scene at this time in Earth's history.

And the premise of last night is that when kings around you fail is when God calls each 1 of us.

And we need to know the context that we're living in.

So if your pastor's a failure, it's not his fault.

If your professor's a failure, if your school fails you, if your parents fail you, it's for you to step up at that time.

If mayors, governors, presidents fail you, it's for you to step up at that time.

Sometimes we get too involved and drunk in our own lives and we don't live these sober lives and we just plug along.

Tonight's message is entitled, When Water Fails.

Father in heaven, we ask for your Holy Spirit to be here tonight.

Many Friday nights, your people come together and we pray for your Holy Spirit.

And many of those nights, if not all of those nights, you have sent your Holy Spirit to each Friday night Vespers.

Father, we claim the promise, we ask for your Holy Spirit 1 more time.

And if it need to be, Lord, superseded with the knowledge of the Holy Spirit.

Convict our hearts in the way only that your Holy Spirit can.

1 Kings 17, verse 1, the Bible says, And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liveth before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

And last night we touched upon that word, and.

Here you have 16 chapters of like the worst of the worst and then this guy was worse than and then and then this is worse and then this is worse and then this is worse.

So no matter how bad it gets, the Lord always has an and.
