The Remnant Restores

British commander George Vancouver, riding in the HMS Discovery.

He spotted it from the deck of his ship while he was exploring the North Pacific coast.

As he was looking out from the deck of his ship, he spotted the mountain.

So as he spotted it, the first European to do so, he decided that he would name this mountain.

He would name the mountain after his fellow countryman, Alan Fitzherbert.

But he didn't name the mountain after his name.

You see, he named the mountain after the position he held.

Commander Vancouver had spotted from his ship Mount St.

Helens had laid dormant for what many estimate as thousands of years.

But as many of you may know the story, on March 20, 1980, a 4.1 magnitude earthquake shook the earth And this mountain wasn't simply a mountain, but rather a volcano.

That earthquake in 1980 on March 20th was the first sign that the volcano was reawakening.

And so instead of fleeing the mountain, scientists from all around flocked to the mountain.

On March 27th, a small explosion blew a 250 foot hole in the mountain and it released a plume of ash.

Similar eruptions to the 1 on March 27th would continue throughout the next month.

And then in April, something strange began to happen to Mount St.

In fact, the bulge was so noticeable that it grew, pushing itself outward at 5 feet per day.

By the end of April, the bulge had reached a mile in length.

Officials were having a difficult time with the evacuation orders and the road closures as people ignored those signs.

And then on May 18th at 8.32 a.m., A 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck Mount St.

Within 10 seconds, the bulge and surrounding area fell away in a gigantic rock avalanche.

The avalanche created a gap in the mountain allowing the release of the pent-up pressure and Mount St.

Helens erupted laterally in a huge blast of pumice and ash.

Helens was heard as far away as Montana and California.

The avalanche traveled down the mountain, accelerating from 70 to 150 miles per hour.

The pumice and the ash traveled northward at 300 miles per hour, and the blast was around 660 degrees Fahrenheit.

The blast killed everything within a 200 mile radius of the volcano.

Within 10 minutes, the plume of ash was 10 miles in the air.

Thankfully, many people had still listened, but 57 people were killed, many of them scientists who were studying the mountain.

But it is estimated that 7, 000 large animals died and hundreds of thousands of small animals died there around Mount St.

The blast leveled entire forests, burning the trees completely, simply leaving ashen stumps on the ground.

They estimate that the timber destroyed in the blast was enough to build 300, 000 homes.

That is 1, 314 feet shorter than it was before the blast.

It is only in the aftermath of that that scientists began to understand that for thousands of years, Mount St.

Helens had erupted sometime between 1600 and 1700.

But over the course of the thousands of years it was there, thousands upon thousands of times, did this volcano erupt.

All the evidence was there, yet there was no action upon the evidence that they had seen.

Helens is a lesson to God's last day remnant people?

Could it be that we are seeing the bulging of the mountain right before our very eyes?

It is a call with urgency to not only restore the paths, but aggressively pursue those paths that God has laid before us.

Could it be that we are not being alarmed to what we are seeing going on around us?

Yesterday we looked at how Satan had decided and changed his tactical battle plan, and he aggressively was pursuing God's people through a work of deception and deceit by entering through the back door and trying to change the church and the doctrines of the church.

We saw that he aggressively pursued that through a power that Revelation 13 calls the beast that rises from the sea, and then his additional counterpart, the beast that rises from the sea, and then his additional counterpart, the beast that rises from the land.

The dragon, the sea beast, and the land beast.

All of them trying to imitate the ministry of the Godhead.

But here is the fascinating thing that just as Satan changed his tactical battle plan to overcome the prolific growth of the early church, God Himself was not surprised by this, and He had a counterattack, and He has a counterattack to this tactical change.

If you have your Bibles with you, I would invite you to open them to Revelation 13.

There in Revelation 13, the last verse of Revelation 13 ends with this, Here is wisdom, let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beasts, for it is the number of a man.

His number is 666." But then the very next words, then I looked and behold, a lamb standing on Mount Zion.

You see, out of the midst of the tragic apostasy and the attack of Satan, John is given a vision of the remnant in a saved state.

They looked and He sees 144, 000 having the Father's name written on their foreheads.

And I heard a voice from heaven like the voice of many waters and like the voice of loud thunder.

And I heard the sound of harpists playing their harps, they sang as if it were a new song before the throne, before the 4 living creatures and the elders, and no 1 could learn the song except the 144, 000 who were the redeemed of the earth.

These are the ones who were not defiled with women, for they are virgins.

They are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes.

These were redeemed from among men, being firstfruits to God and to the Lamb.

And in their mouth was found no deceit, for they are without fault before the throne." You see, in the midst of the tragic deception and deceit and apostasy of Revelation 13, God transitioned and shows us that even though Satan changed his tactical battle plan, God still wins the war.

The war is won, and The war has already been won, but God is coming again.

We are given a view in Revelation 14 that we see the remnant being saved.

Verse 4 gives us the key descriptor of this remnant people.

The word follow literally means to come after, to obey, to be discipled, to go along with.

The remnant people are followers of Jesus wherever He leads.

Out of the midst of the apostasy, out of the midst of the tragedy of the tactical change of the devil, God First gives John a glimpse and gives us a glimpse that although Satan seems to have won a battle through the deception and deceit in the church, remember, God will be victorious in the war.

And then he rewinds and he says, the reason they will be victorious is because even though the devil has changed his tactical strategy, God never has changed His strategy.
