We Have Not a High Priest who Cannot be Touched

Heavenly Father, we're so blessed you've given us so many evidences of your love and this morning Lord We like to once again draw from the wells of salvation we'd like to see Jesus in a very personal and intimate way a way that touches our lives that changes our lives and inspires us with hope and it gives us the motivation to persevere through obstacles and difficulties and helps us Lord to keep focused on the bigger picture.

Father touch us today and I pray your Holy Spirit will use me this morning in Jesus name I pray, Amen.

This morning I'd like to share with you the story of the woman with the issue of blood and also Jairus.

In fact if you look in the scriptures you'll find that this story is always connected together.

The story of Jairus and the story of the woman with the issue of blood, and also Jairus.

In fact, if you look in the scriptures, you'll find that this story is always connected together.

The story of Jairus and the story of the woman with the issue of blood is always mentioned together.

It's mentioned in Matthew chapter 9, Mark chapter 5 and Luke chapter 8.

Mark chapter 5 is the chapter that we'll be mainly focusing on because it seems to have more of the details of all the other stories mentioned.

So if you'd like to turn with me to Mark chapter 5, and we'll be reading from verse 21.

And it reads, And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him, and he was nigh unto the sea.

And behold, there cometh 1 of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name.

And when he saw him he fell at his feet and besought him greatly saying My little daughter lieth at the point of death.

I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed and she shall live.

And Jesus went with him and much people followed him and thronged him.

I'm a teacher so I like asking questions so I'd like to get you looking at some of the details here.

Did she have a chronic or acute condition?

It was acute, she had a fever, fevers, although you can have a chronic fever, It appeared she had an acute fever.

They just last for a few hours, sometimes a day or 2, but then they go away.

Yes, it says she, according to Jairus, he says she lies at the point of death.

And so she was hovering between life and death.

The word Jairus means, it comes from 2 words, the first word Yah or Yahweh actually, which is the name of God, and then the last part of his name, Rus, is basically enlightened.

Now you probably are familiar with the fact that many of the priests believed in Jesus, we're told, but they didn't come openly because of what?

Fear of being kicked out of the synagogue.

And so, Jairus had a lot to gain for his daughter, but he had a lot to lose also for himself.

Now let's have a look here at what happens.

There's a story here that is encapsulated in another story.

And so we're gonna see how these 2 connect and then draw lessons from that to us personally.

And it says in verse 25, And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood, how many years?

Okay, now is an issue of blood a pretty serious thing?

What did it mean to a lady in those times who had an issue of blood?

In fact, if you turn with me, hold your finger in the Book of Mark, but if you turn with me to Leviticus chapter 15, it's a chapter on uncleanness, and it doesn't just relate to women's issues, but also men's issues.

It starts with men and finishes with women, with the woman.

But it says here, and we'll read from verse 19.

And if a woman have an issue and her issue in her flesh be blood, she shall be put apart 7 days and whosoever toucheth her shall be unclean unto the evening.

And everything that she lieth upon in her separation shall be unclean.

Everything also that she sitteth upon shall be unclean.

And whosoever toucheth Her bed shall wash his clothes, bath himself in water, and be unclean until the evening.

And then it also goes on, verse 25, and if a woman have an issue of a blood many days out of the time of her separation, or if it run beyond the time of her separation, or the days of the issue of her uncleanness shall be as the days of her separation.

She shall be unclean." In other words, every day that she is bleeding, she also is considered unclean.

Now of course that usually just happens for a few days, but in this case if you were that woman you would have to leave your family.

And if, and we don't know this, we don't know any details about her family, but if she had a husband at that time, it could have been grounds for him divorcing her because of that issue.

And then she would also be away from her children because if she had children, she couldn't visit them, she couldn't touch them, everything she touched would be unclean.

Just wasn't quite as serious from a leprosy standpoint.

It was a very loathsome disease to look at and of course the physiology was worse than this.

You had basically social isolation and if you had bleeding for a long period of time, what happens physiologically?

Sometimes it affects digestion, sometimes it affects even the way we think.

And so, just from a physiological standpoint, it's very debilitating.

She has to leave her family and she does not know how long it is.

If she has a family, she doesn't know how long that time period is going to be.

Think about it from a spiritual perspective.

She couldn't step foot in the precincts of a temple.

Now, did she have an acute condition or a chronic condition?

What happened 12 years before in Jara's household?

I just met 1 back here and she's studying.

So in 1 house you've got Jairus, he's joyful.

He's got a new daughter that is coming to his household, a precious time of rejoicing.

But then in another household, what have you got?
