The Prophetic Relevance of the Medical Missionary Work

Father in heaven, we are very, very grateful for the privilege to come together as a family, to study your words, to hear heaven speak while we on earth remain silent.

And Lord, we know that there are many things that you desire to share with us, your people.

And so we're just praying that you would forgive us of our sins, that you grant us the presence of your Holy Spirit, who's really the only effectual teacher of truth.

We pray, Lord, that you'll give us a mind that has the capacity to hear, to understand, and to live the very words that you will give to us.

And Lord, I pray that you'll press very strongly upon our heart the blessed privilege of this gift that you gave to this movement, December 25, 1865.

That wonderful gift of the sanitarium work and medical missionary work, Lord, make it plain to our hearts, we pray, for we ask all these things in Jesus' name, amen.

The best way to get your blessing is number 1, to make sure that you have your Bible, all right?

You want to find that, you know, we're going to get to a place where our batteries are going to run out and all these things.

You want to make sure that you have a good sword in hand, that you know how to navigate through it, that you can mark it and let the scriptures connect 1 with the other.

I want to make that clear, but of course it is good to have the good old book.

But if you want a double blessing, then I would also recommend that you have pen and paper.

You can write down the references that are gonna come before you.

And then that way, by God's grace, we can be good Bereans, go back in our private quarters and study everything out that's been said and make sure that everything is according to thus saith the Lord.

If there's 1 major issue that we have in our world today, it is none other than this word spiritualism.

When you think of the word spiritualism, this is what it means, if you look at it from just a plain old dictionary explanation.

It says, a belief that departed spirits hold intercourse with mortals by means of physical phenomena, as by wrapping or during abnormal mental states, as entrances or the like, commonly manifested through a medium or spiritism.

Well, spiritualism is something that we have to pay attention to, not from the standpoint of studying it, but to be able to identify it.

And that way, when you identify it, you understand that you've come in contact with an enemy.

And spiritualism is the enemy not just of us, it's the enemy of God, it's the enemy of God's truth.

But the thing that I want us to understand even more so is that spiritualism is not limited to this definition that we're reading here.

It's not limited to that, Because this would be kind of an easy thing to avoid if you are a Seventh-day Adventist.

Is there anyone that is here that is not part of the Seventh-day Adventist community?

Is there anyone here, you are not a part of the family of Seventh-day Adventist?

If you're here, I just want to give a special welcome to you.

Because of the fact that you're here, it helps me understand a greater relevance of why I'm standing here.

And so I'm very thankful that you joined us today, all right?

Is there anyone else that is not part of the Seven-Day Adventist community?

And if you are a Seven-Day Adventist, well, we understand spiritualism in this context.

You got to watch out for that, you know, talking to departed spirits and these type of things.

But I want to show us something a little bit deeper.

When we consider the Bible, let's go to the book of Genesis chapter 3.

Genesis the third chapter, and I want you to watch this with me as we go ahead and study the word.

In Genesis chapter 3, Eve is talking to a snake.

And I want you to see what the Bible says about this story because there's some pretty deep points that come out of it.

In Genesis, the third chapter, we're gonna go ahead and start right there at verse 1.

When you get there, just let me know by saying amen.

The Bible says in Genesis chapter 3, starting at verse 1, now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field, which the Lord God had made.

And He said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

The woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden, but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it lest ye die.

And the serpent said unto the woman you shall not surely die for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof Then your eyes shall be open and you shall be as God's knowing good and Evil now, I want you to pay close attention to this because what we just read is literally the foundation of spiritualism.

It's a little bit more than so-called departed spirits talking to people.

The foundation of Spiritualism is saying that though God has made explicit command and has made explicit word expressed to his people when we begin to believe that we can violate what God has said and we can still receive the blessings to be connected with God and to be forever with God and have immortality in the midst of our disobedience, this is foundational to this thing called spiritualism.

And the reason why this is important is I'm going to show you how all of this ties back into the great relevance of why the world today, in 2017, needs gospel medical missionary evangelists.

Let's go ahead and let's review what we just read.

Subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.

So the serpent didn't just come out there as a vicious, dangerous creature.

But then it says, and the serpent said unto the woman, you shall not surely die.

Then it says, for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as what?

You shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

When I looked up the word gods, it's that Hebrew word elohim.

And it says gods in the ordinary sense, but specifically used in the plural thus, especially with the article of the supreme God.

So literally, Satan was saying, if you violate the very words of God, you shall actually be like the supreme God.

This is actually what he was trying to perpetuate to Adam and to Eve.

Number 1, we see that the devil first came in an unsuspecting manner that was friendly and unassuming.

Okay, he came because again, ladies if you saw a serpent today, not even talking to you, but if you just saw a serpent on the ground, would you go in the same direction or the opposite?

You understand the danger of that serpent.

And so Eve is walking towards the serpent and hearing this serpent out.

I remember I was studying some different things with Egyptology many, many, many years ago before I was a Christian and I was part of different Egyptian religions.

And I remember that there would be paintings like this that you would see and you would see that the serpent has what here?

These were like scientific readings and studies that they did.

They found out that serpents many, many, many years ago were very beautiful creatures.

And they actually had wings, and of course, the wings would obviously infer that they could fly.

I'm reading 1 of the wonderful documentaries of our history, a book called Patriarchs and Prophets.

And as I was going through it, here's what it said.

In order to accomplish his work unperceived, Satan chose to employ as his medium the serpent, a disguise well adapted for his purpose of deception.

The serpent was then 1 of the wisest and most, what kind of creatures?

And while flying through the air, presented an appearance of dazzling brightness, having the color and brilliancy of burnished gold.

Resting in the rich laden branches of the forbidden tree and regaling itself with the delicious fruit, it was an object to arrest the attention and delight the eye of the beholder.

Thus in the garden of peace lurked the destroyer, watching for his prey." And so obviously Eve is seeing this dazzling creature and she's entering into a dialogue.

The Sacredness of the Laws of Health

Father in heaven, I just want to thank you for the privilege to come with my brothers and my sisters, your sons and your daughters, and we all together as a family can study to show ourselves approved unto you.

Be in work, men, that need not be ashamed, for we have rightly divided your words of truth.

Lord, we humble ourselves in your sight upon our knees and we ask you for the forgiveness of our sins.

We pray for the presence of your Holy Spirit, Lord.

And Father, I just ask that you'll do something special with this clay.

You know the nervousness in my heart that I always have coming before thy people.

But Lord, I know that you can take control of the mind and the mouth and just give what you want to be given.

And I pray that not only would you bless everybody else, I am asking that you'll do something special for my own heart.

I'm praying that while you are truly blessing others, don't pass me by.

Help all of us to leave here refreshed and edified as a result of coming in contact with Jesus is our prayer that we ask today in Jesus' name, amen.

There are a few things that I wanted to say.

It is amazing how often when Jesus would teach and preach that he was misunderstood.

It was not because what Jesus said was confusing, but it's because sometimes we're thinking and listening at the same time.

And sometimes it causes us maybe not to hear things clearly.

And it kept coming in my mind, make this point of clarification.

So because it kept coming in my mind, I said, well, let me go ahead and do that.

I stand before you unflinchingly convinced that there is more that God wants to do into and through his people.

I have been part of this movement for 25 years, and I've seen in my own life, as well as in the lives of many, far more talk than power.

And God is not desirous that we stay in that condition.

We are very smart people, for those of us who study a lot.

I've sat with some of the most brilliant minds in Adventism, those who are popular and in the mainstream preaching circuit, as well as many who people do not know about, but they are some of God's shining stars that we will see them best when midnight comes.

And I know that there's a large amount of intellect that we have in our movement, but I've also seen amongst some of the high-level intellectuals, I've seen character qualities that I know are character qualities of Satan.

In fact, these character qualities were even in my own heart.

It amazes me how we can know so much gospel truth.

I'll give you something so incredibly simple.

How is it that a man and that a woman can know so much of the Bible, know so much of the spirit of prophecy, yet if they have difference with a brother, they talk to other people about it rather than the brother?

I mean, that's like ABC Bible, Matthew 18, 15 through 18.

You got an issue with your brother, do not go around talking and gossiping with other fellow workers, fellow Christians, fellow whatever, go to the brother and go solve the issue.

And when you read Heavenly Places, page 292, Ellen White says she marveled at how God's people have neglected to follow the simple teachings of Matthew 18.

She said, many will say, oh no, it's nothing personal.

And they use that as a means of why they don't go to the brother.

And Ellen White says, the words of God are explicitly stated in Matthew 18, that you are still to go to your brother.

You know, and that's just 1 of literally 1, 000 examples.

And so what I believe is that we need more power.

Now, I have learned to appreciate the simplicity of the gospel, the simplicity of the gospel.

There was a picture that was shown to me, and it was on Facebook.

I believe that this picture beautifully represents what Christ wants to do with his people.

And Jesus has, Jesus is talking to a little girl.

Some of you might have seen this picture.

And when Jesus is talking to the little girl, Jesus has 1 hand like this.

The hand that is like this is suggesting, give me what you have.

So the cartoon, the little girl is holding onto the, and you know, she's holding onto the teddy bear with reluctancy, You know, like, I don't really want to give this to Jesus.

Even though Jesus, with perfect smile, lovely countenance, is saying, give me your bear.

But what she did not see was the teddy bear that was at least 5 times the size of her little teddy bear that she cherished so much.

And it was to make a very simple point that when God calls us from something or God calls us to something, He always has something better in store for us than what we presently have or the present position we're in.

God wants to do exceedingly and abundantly more than we can ask or think.

That is the real key point that I want to get across.

This is the point that I want to bring clarification just in the event that somebody might have had a point of confusion.

And I talked about how, how is it, and I still marvel at this, How is it that Peter could say a prayer to tell Tabitha to get up and he never asked God, Lord if it's your will let this happen, he already knew it was God's will.

How is it that Peter can go to a man and John and They go to a man at the gate called Beautiful, and they literally know how to say to that brother, listen, I don't have money, but I do have something.

There's nothing wrong when a gospel worker understands these are the gifts God has given to me.

And then what he wants you to do is he wants you to intellectually and intelligently, he wants you practically to cultivate that gift.

And so it is, they said, look, I know what I don't have, but I know what I do have.

And so he said, in the name of Jesus, get up and start walking.

Again, they knew that God was in agreement with their statement.

I do not see that in medical missionary work.

I do not see that in a broad sweeping manner in medical missionary work.

What I was not seeing yesterday was that we need to start seeing a whole bunch of miraculous healing.

You heard me say yesterday that I said using the modalities, using herbs and poultices, etc.

My thing is, is how many of us have confidence when we apply the poultice, do the hydrotherapy treatment, or whatever the treatment is, How many of us have the kind of confidence that Peter had?

That we know this individual is gonna leave UT Pines healed.

How many of us have that kind of confidence because our minds are so in tune with Christ in the most holy place?

It's not about just seeing a whole bunch of miraculous healing.

I firmly believe God does still do miraculous healing.

But God, and by the way, it's a miracle you woke up this morning.

If we understood, as the prophet tells us, of the war that takes place when we're asleep, and how those demons want to do everything possible to make sure that we do not rise.

But thank God for angels that excel in strength.

And that's why you're up breathing and listening to me even right now.

So I know for a fact God still wants to do plenty, plenty, plenty miracles.

And if he chooses to do it without an assisting agency or with an assisting agency, it's still a miracle.

What is the Medical Missionary Work and What It Is Not

Father in heaven, thank you so much, Lord, for the wonderful opportunities to speak to your people.

I thank you for this privilege, Father, for it is a privilege.

But, Lord, I also know that I have no power in and of myself to even articulate that which is needed most.

Therefore I commit myself into your hands and I pray that you'll take my life and let it be consecrated, Lord, to thee.

I pray that you'll speak to my mind and speak through my mouth that it might minister to the heart needs of my brothers and my sisters.

I pray that you'll give them ears to hear, and that as a result of our time together in the meditation of your word, we will come out of this place better than when we came in.

I have had the privilege over the past few years to go to different institutes.

I've been to several institutes within the United States of America, and then I've had the privilege to go abroad.

Many of these institutes were either our schools where they train gospel workers.

That can be things like an Amazing Facts or there's a wonderful school like Wachita Hills Academy and College and many, many others.

And then we have places that are medical missionary training institutes like Uchi Pines, like Wildwood, like Meet Ministry and many, many others.

Been overseas and got a chance to see some institutes over there.

And I found that the same problems that we're having here in many respects, you also see them happening abroad because America is typically where everybody loves to look and to copy.

And 1 of the things I really notice is that there's a lot of similar weaknesses and similar challenges.

And you get to a place that God has really transitioned my mind.

And what has happened as of late is I find that when I rose up on December 19, 2016, when I rose up from that surgical table and God spared my life and restored me, et cetera, I was really more inquiring now, Lord, what do you want?

And I love going to young people, because there's a lot of buzzwords in Adventism.

When you say present truth, that can mean something completely different to me than it is to you.

So these become buzzwords that we use a lot that I'm discovering we really don't know what we're talking about a lot of times.

Then on top of that, there's another real major buzz term that's used in Adventism.

You know, we gotta do what's called finish the work.

Some of the questions that I ask both youth and adults is what do you mean by finish the work?

Or what work is it that needs to be finished?

What do we need to do to get Jesus to come back here and take us out of this planet.

And a lot of times we say we need more outpost centers, especially the younger generation, you hear that a lot.

We need more outpost centers, we need blueprint schools, we need this, we need that.

And I'm thinking to myself, we had blueprint schools.

When I was at the Mountain and Mountain Mission working with Toccoa Missions, Elder Sandoval mentioned that I was working with Toccoa Missions.

But there was a time that I was part of Takoa missions and we were over in Harrisville, New Hampshire, and I remember being on Mountain Mission.

And some of you who are of the older generation, you know about Mountain Mission.

And the big old mansion that was on the property there, et cetera, and you know, when I look at that mansion, it's desolate.

And it's interesting because to Coa Mission, it's not there anymore, it moved on to another location, And now there's a non-believing man who owns that very property and is using it more so for glory of self than glory for God.

I remember when I was walking through the mansion, and I mean, you gotta walk carefully in that mansion because the floors are all brittle and everything.

You could literally fall through the floor.

And so we would walk on the beams and what have you, and you would go into a room.

And when you would go in the room, there would be these boxes filled with books.

And we would go in those boxes and open them up, and there would be these old books.

When I opened up this directory, you know what it was?

It was a directory of all of the outpost centers in the United States.

It was a directory that went as far back as probably about 1940, something like that, 1940, 1950.

And when you look at how many Outpost centers we had, how many hygienic restaurants.

When you look at all these things that we had, I wonder how is it that heaven holds back tears?

Because when you count it today, you can almost count it on 1 hand.

And so, in my mind, I'm like, Father, we've had outpost centers.

You go to where these places were, and it's quote unquote Gentiles that own it now, non-believers, heathens, doing whatever they want, when they want, how they want.

The remainder of these schools, you go into them, and you constantly see a gross level of apostasy.

It's like a microcosm of places where you can really find what God is looking for.

When I saw this, this is what began to cause me to say, Father, what do you want?

Because if the work could simply be finished by establishing more outpost centers, well, it should have been finished a long time ago.

It's spelled out in very, very clear language.

In Proverbs, the 23rd chapter, I want you to see what the Bible says, and I think that this is the most important thing.

Yes, it is true, God wants more schools, sanitariums, various outpost centers.

Yes, the Lord could certainly benefit from having more of those.

Some people are now doing it from their homes.
