Thank you for how your spirit has been with us this week so far, and I pray that you would continue to be in our midst and to pour out your blessing upon us.

Give me the words to speak this morning that will be what is needed for each 1 of us.

And again we remember those who are in harm's way in Puerto Rico especially right now.

You provide your protecting hand for those who are there.

So be with us now this morning and we pray all these things in Jesus' name.

So for our morning meetings we've been going through the sanctuary message in the book of Revelation and our first presentation looked at the overview of the movement of Jesus from the Holy Place to the Most Holy Place through the churches, the seals, and the trumpets.

Yesterday we spent time looking at the work of Jesus in the Most Holy Place as it relates to the message he gives to the Laodicean church.

Today we are going to look at the seals and the emphasis will be again on what is taking place in the most holy place during the work of the seals.

And so we are going to look briefly at the seals, and then we're going to look especially at the most holy place aspect of the seals.

I'm going to start with a statement that has special relevance for today and for the time we are living.

And this is Testimonies, Volume 9, page 11.

The fast-fulfilling signs of the times declare that the coming of Christ is near at hand.

The days in which we live are solemn and important.

The Spirit of God is gradually but surely being withdrawn from the earth.

Plagues and judgments are already falling upon the despisers of the grace of God.

The calamities by land and sea, the unsettled state of society, the alarms of war are portentous.

They forecast approaching events of the greatest magnitude.

The agencies of evil are combining their forces and consolidating.

They are strengthening for the last great crisis.

Great changes are soon to take place in our world, and the final movements will be rapid ones." Wow, it's as if Ellen White wrote this statement yesterday.

I mean, how much more do we need to see to believe that Jesus is coming soon?

I mean Hurricane Maria is pounding Puerto Rico right now.

Mexico City was blasted by an earthquake yesterday.

There's already been Hurricane Irma, Hurricane Harvey flooding in Houston.

Islands in the Caribbean have been destroyed by Hurricane Irma, now Hurricane Maria is coming, and we see that the Spirit of God is being withdrawn from the earth.

And in that context we see that the seals in the book of Revelation provide a road map to understand what takes place as the Spirit of God has been withdrawn from the earth.

Now Let's go to Revelation chapter 6 as we start our study through the seals.

So there's 7 churches, 7 seals, 7 trumpets.

And the seals provide a historical timeline to know where we are in the history of the world.

I'm not going to spend a lot of time on the first 5 seals.

I suspect that those of you who have studied the book of Revelation have a basic grasp of this, but basically if you look through the first 8 verses of Revelation chapter 6 you have 4 horses, the white horse, the red horse, the black horse, and the pale horse.

And they just describe various phases chronologically of the Christian Church.

We have the conquering pure Apostolic Christian Church described as the White Horse, and the time period for that is from 31 to 100 AD.

Then we have the Red Horse which describes the Persecuted Church, and that goes from about 100 AD to 313 AD, and that culminates with the 10 years of persecution under the Roman Emperor Diocletian.

Then you have the Black Horse, and that starts with the third seal in verse 5.

This represents the time that the Church begins to go into apostasy.

When you study this period of time, this is when the doctrine of Balaam and of the Nicolaitans came into the Christian Church, and it was held by the Christian Church.

Those of you who have studied the doctrine of the Nicolaitans understand, LMI says, that the doctrine of the Nicolaitans is turning the grace of God into lasciviousness.

Or in other words, we use God's grace as a license to keep sinning.

And so the early Christian Church held that doctrine.

And then by the time we get to the fourth seal we see the pale horse.

This is the time where the Christian church is described as a sick, pale horse.

And when you study the churches in connection with the seals, this is the time when the woman Jezebel is in the church.

And so this is the time of great apostasy.

Now I have this going from 538 to 1374 because it was in 1374 that John Wycliffe, 1 of the first reformers, comes onto the scene.

And he turned out to be 1 of the great Reformers.

He spoke out against transubstantiation or the mass.

He was ahead of even some of the Reformers who came after him.

And so the Protestant Reformation began around 1374.

And then you get to the fifth seal in verse 9 where the souls cry out under the altar in verse 10 How long the Lord till you judge and avenge our blood?

Then we get to the sixth seal And the sixth seal begins in verse 12.

And this is where we're going to pick things up.

So we've gone from 31 AD all the way down through the time of the Protestant Reformation.

And then in verse 12 it says, I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and lo, there was a great earthquake.

And the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood, and the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth through untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.

And the heaven departed as a scroll, when it is rolled together, and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains, and said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb, for the great day of His wrath is come, and who shall be able to stand?" All of a sudden, we've just been kind of going along, marching through history, 3180 to 100, and then 100 to 313, 313 to 538, 538 to 1374.

And then when the sixth seal opens there's this great earthquake and we go through this earthquake and we go through the dark day and we go through the falling of the stars and the next thing we see is the coming of Jesus in the clouds and the wicked are calling for the rocks and the mountains to fall on them.

Lest you think we're going to be here for another thousand years, the signs of the coming of Jesus began 262 years ago when the Lisbon earthquake came.

So we are very, very close, potentially, to the coming of Jesus.

We understand from history that the Great Lisbon Earthquake occurred on May 1, 1755.

I'm not sure that they have a Richter scale rating for that earthquake.

There were actually 2 great shocks that hit the city and then a tsunami came in and wiped out the city and then fire spread throughout the city afterward.

The earthquake was felt throughout Europe and as far away as Africa and it was the greatest earthquake that had been seen to that point in Earth's history.

This was a clear sign of the beginning of the signs that would take place before Jesus comes again.

And in fact, these signs are also found in the Gospel accounts of Matthew, Mark, and Luke.

You can find it in Matthew 24 verses 29 and 30, Mark 13 verses 24 through 26, Luke 21 verses 25 through 28, and even Joel chapter 2 verse 31 describes the dark day where the moon turns to blood.

This is mentioned 4 other times in Scripture before we come to the book of Revelation.

God wants us to be aware of the fact that these signs have great prophetic significance.

So the Great Lisbon Earthquake occurs on May 1, 1755, and just 25 years later on May 19, 1780, we have the Great Dark Day, which I preached about this shortly before the Great American Eclipse.

We were fortunate enough to live just about 2 hours from the center line of totality, So we drove to my hometown where I grew up to experience the eclipse.

By the way, did anyone get a chance to see the eclipse in its totality?

You know, just so you know, and this is a side point, if you were in 99% eclipse territory, the difference between 99% eclipse and totality was the difference between night and day.

It was Like if you got 99% coverage, it was still bright outside.

But when we were in the totality, the sun was getting darker and darker and then all of a sudden you could look and it was like the sunset was coming over the entire horizon and then everything went black.

And then we were there, it was about 2 and a half minutes where we were, 2 minutes thirty-five seconds, and about 15 seconds before the sun came back out, the cows started mooing, they were confused.

But here's the thing, eclipses happen as often as every 18 months somewhere in the world.

We enjoyed it and in fact there's going to be another eclipse in 7 years that's going to last for 4 minutes and it's going to go through Texas and Arkansas and it won't be that far from where we live.

But 4 minutes is nothing to what the great dark day was.
