We pray that the Holy Spirit will be here and be our teacher.

May we understand what He has done for us.

Help us to grasp the joy of Your love for us.

Chapter 7, the first part is 1 of the most misunderstood parts.

In fact, I've heard it even with Adventists, say it's sweet kindness.

People misunderstand this allegory that Paul is using.

And here's...so let me just go ahead and start.

Let me read it and then I'm going to try to help clarify.

Or do you not...verse 1, chapter 7, Or do you not know, brethren, for I speak to those who know the law, that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives.

I'm not going to get into the divorce issue and remarriage thing.

I'm just going to focus on the illustration.

For a woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives, but if the husband dies, she is released from the law of her husband.

So then, if while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress.

But if her husband dies, she's free from that law, so that she's no adulteress, though she's married another man.

Therefore, because of this, therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another, to him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God.

For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death.

But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to that by which we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not the oldness of the letter." Now, if you're a Seventh-day Adventist, you're bound to run into a friend, somebody, somewhere that's quoted that text to you that says that we have been delivered from the law.

I'm going to put this story and this is a parable.

There was a lady and she married, yeah, Somebody trying to get up with each other.

There was a lady, she married this man, and all went well for just a little while, but after a while she found out that he was just a terrible guy.

And she didn't know what kind of work he did, but she was just really miserable.

And every once in a while, he'd go on a long business trip.

And when he'd go on a long business trip, she'd say, oh, wow, that's nice.

And so he'd do this every once in a while.

1 time he's going on 1 of these long business trips, he went down to the local park, and she ran into another man there that was so nice.

Never made any kind of inappropriate anything, but he was just so nice.

And on the way home, Something said to her, wouldn't it be nice if you were married to him?

And all of a sudden another voice said, but the law says.

Okay, so she put it out of her mind, her husband come back and, oh, life was miserable.

Then he'd leave and she'd go down to the park and she'd run into this guy and they'd talk, have a nice visit together.

And On the way home, she'd say, wouldn't it be wonderful if I could...

And then another voice would come in and say, but the law says.

You know, nobody had any wrong kinds of anything.

Every time she'd go home after Ligonette, she'd hear that voice.

So 1 time her husband left on a long business trip And he was gone for quite a long time.

And she went out to pick up the morning newspaper.

I could say she turned on the internet and looked at the morning news, but anyway, I like the newspaper for this 1 better.

So she was out, she picked up, what did I say this was?

Okay, I just want to make sure that you understood that.

She went and picked up the morning newspaper.

My wife doesn't like this illustration, but you'll understand why in a minute.

She went and picked up the morning newspaper and she opens it up and on the headlines it says, Notorious criminal executed by the state.

And she began to read it and She read her husband's own name.

So she almost smiled, and because she felt a little guilty about that.

So anyway, in the course of time, she went down to the park again, and this man was so nice, and they had become such nice friends.

And on the way home she was saying to herself, wouldn't it be nice if I could be married to him?

There's no voice that says, but the law says.

In the course of time they became good friends and they got married.

He says, there's something I didn't tell you.

I actually am the king and I've been in disguise so I was somehow looking for a wife, but I'm the king, and I have to tell you something else.

I know what you're thinking, and don't think that.

He said, your husband was horrible, And he'd murdered a lot of people, done a lot of horrible things.

And we had been on his case for a long time, didn't know anything about you, but finally we caught him and we put, he's a notorious criminal.

Ladies, forgive me, I'm stereotyping just a little bit for the story's sake, okay?

Before when she was married to this terrible guy that was ruining her life, Was there still meals to cook?

Yes, your husband should help you with this, but remember this is apparel.

I know you may appreciate me making sure that was clear.

So are there still meals to cook and the house to clean and all that kind of...

There's still the obligations between the husband and wife that normally go in life.
