I want to give you some news to start off a little bit what's going on in the church and then we'll go into Sabbath school afterwards.

I work at the General Conference Sabbath School Department.

It's the world headquarters for the Adventist Church.

Started there about 2 years ago and the General Conference wanted to make a new initiative, not new initiative, but a new push to revive a lot of the Sabbath school quarterlies for the world church.

So it goes all the way from beginners, and beginners is like cradle roll, it's like little munchkin kids who are like not really cognizant of reality yet, all the way up to young adults.

The new Bible study guides are called My Bible Guides, and they're having new, I forgot what the divisions are, but primary and early teen, you know, all the da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da.

And then, the young adults quarterly is called collegiate quarterly, and it's for 18 to 35.

And there's a little bit of a dissonance because it's called collegiate quarterly, but it's for 18 to 35.

So if you are 18 to 21 years old, collegiate quarterly is like, hey, let's get to it.

But if you're about 22 to 35, like, So we're changing the name, and we're changing the name, it's been called Inverse, and it's debuting, the entire series is debuting in 2020.

The Sabbath school department works kind of many years in advance and the adults are working on 2024 and 2025 kind of out into the future.

The other thing is we are changing the format.

I don't know if you're familiar with CQ, the Collegiate Quarterly.

It was started in the 1970s, a long time ago before I was around.

And the format was that it was a devotional accessory to the adult guide.

And so the topics are exactly the same as the adult quarterly, but it's more devotional in nature and it's written by a young adult, a different adult every single day.

We found that format to be good for certain pockets and not good for other pockets.

We did a survey around the world and some opinions came back that young adults wanted really solid Bible material that they could study for themselves and get into some of these things.

There's another result that came back that was a little bit kind of enigmatic, it said that young adults wanted to be treated like adults and wanted to do what the adults did but didn't want to do what the adults did.

And so when we presented this to some of the Sabbath School staff, they're like, oh that's figures, that's what young adults want anyway.

They want to be adult, but they don't want to be adults.

The largest complaint was that the topics weren't very young adult friendly issues that young adults wanted to tackle.

So we found a compromise, and this is kind of a work in progress, But we will be doing 2 out of the 4 quarters of the year, 2 topics will follow the adults and 2 topics we're going to venture out into unknown territory.

It's kind of a difficult project because It's a world document.

I don't know how many of you are Seventh-day Adventists and how many of you are aware, but in the Christian world, Catholic or Protestant, the Seventh-day Adventist Sabbath school quarterly is, if not the last remaining world document.

Meaning 1 Bible study is studied by the entire world at the same time.

And the production and the logistics and the, to get that going is a huge endeavor.

And it's cool because I just got back from Colombia and from Bangladesh and guess what they're studying?

They're studying the same thing that we're studying.

So we want to have a world appeal and have young adults all around the world studying the same thing.

The third component that we'd like to present is that we're trying to make it a dual platform.

Nowadays we have our smartphones or our tablets and there's this battle like, the future is going to be all smartphones, that's gonna, da, da, da, da, da, da.

And there's the other side, we're like, no, we must retain to our roots and use paper.

Paper, screen, paper, screen, la, la, la, la.

And the reality is, it's a dumb argument.

I'm finding that, at least in our research, that young adults are experiencing screen fatigue.

At the same time, we cannot throw our smartphones away because if you do, you will die of anxiety because you don't know what to do.

So, we're having dual platform, meaning There is a renaissance of journaling.

How many been to like hand lettering and experiencing the new art of paper and then like it's like Where instead of the screen that you're like tapping the entire time like a woodpecker.

So we're trying to have a dual platform, meaning on a print book, it's limited because the amount of text can only, has to fit on the paper.

So we're moving all the text onto a mobile format so that we can have video, charts, graphics, as much text and just a lot, a lot, a lot of context.

But all the interactive component will happen on paper.

And we're going to put a lot of devotional material, journal material, you're interacting with the text, the Bible text, reflections and have more devotional journal experience with the paper.

And so it's not either or, you actually need both to study your Sabbath school lesson.

And the reality of it, I think a lot of us are actually dual platform anyway.

We're using a little bit of paper here and a little bit of screen here and then we're trying to use the best.

And then the fourth component, last component, I'm going to give you an update is we have endeavored on a new Bible study show called Inverse, the same exact name, on Hope Channel.

So you can actually look it up on your phones or write this down in your phones, write this down in your phones, tap it out with your thumbs on your phone, put this in your phones.

So my friends, a group of friends and I have a TV show and we sit around and we make fun of each other for about 28 minutes.

And we talk about the Bible and we go over the Bible study Sabbath school quarterly.

And it's 1, 1 to model what a good Sabbath school discussion looks like.

Number 2, if you don't have any friends, we can be your friends.

Or number 3, if your church has no young people, we can be your young people.

Or number 4, if you're just bored and have nothing to do and you're eating in the cafeteria and you have no friends, you can just put us on and we can become your friends as well.

We have a Caribbean, black Caribbean dude.

We have an African, continental African Zimbabwean dudette, we have a white dude with a beard, and then we have a Caucasian girl, and they're kind of like the European version, And then we have the Mexican dude.

And the funny thing is we're very popular in the country of India.

Which we have no representation whatsoever of.

And the island of Fiji, which I don't know how that works.
