The Secret to Victory

With Thanksgiving I'll be a living sanctuary for you.

I just want to read you this little paragraph about what prayer is all about that I found on the Courthouse Road Church website.

Prayer is the practice of the presence of God.

It is the place where pride is abandoned, hope is lifted, and supplication is made.

Prayer is a place of admitting our need, of adopting humility and claiming dependence upon God.

Prayer is the needful practice of the Christian.

Prayer is the exercise of faith and hope.

Prayer is the privilege of touching the heart of the Father through His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

You know, in the mornings, especially with our prayer meetings at 615, it's just been so sweet, so special.

I thank God for working it out for our sister, Melissa, to come from Canada to help us out, to lead out in the mornings.

You know, this morning, She had shared earlier that God woke her up at 2.30.

And so she said, oh, OK, maybe I'll just pray a little while, and maybe I'll just fall back asleep.

She prayed until the alarm went off, her roommate's alarm, which was set for 5 o'clock.

And when you really learn to pray, the time just flies.

It's about being in God's presence and you understand the words of the hymn, Sweet Hour of Prayer.

And I pray that you'll be able to have that kind of experience.

Prayer is really the place where people are 1 to Christ.

Sharing the good news is just gathering the fruit.

If you want to do evangelism and beat your head, just go forward prayerless.

But if you want to see results, go forward on your knees.

Ellen White says In CM 105, which 1 of our books is this?

She says, we should pray as earnestly for the descent of the Holy Spirit as the disciples prayed on the day of Pentecost.

If they needed it at that time, we need it more today.

At our ministry, as we began the new year, we said, let's host a 10 days of prayer at our ministry.

There was a local church, there's also another home in the area, but we said, let's open up our doors and have our ministry host the 10 days of prayer.

Because in other places, though they're having the 10 days of prayer, usually what they do is they start with prayer, have a long message, and end with a little prayer.

And we said, no, we need to just really pray.

And so we opened up our doors, invited other ministries in the area and people in the community to come join us for prayer.

And the Lord just really blessed us in those 10 days.

We saw many answers to prayers, and it really brought all these different ministries together.

But all these ministries in various things, your story hour, Adventist frontier missions, Pan-David, not Pan-David, but Reach International and Adventist World Aviation, all these ministries, we just came together.

Well, 10 days came to an end and we said, well, you know what, we don't want to just end this.

And it turned into a weekly prayer meeting.

So we meet on Thursday evening once a week.

And every month we go to a different location.

But there was a few of us, we said, you know what, we're not happy with that.

Because we have not received the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

We have not experienced what they experienced at Pentecost.

Before we can receive the latter rain, we need to receive the early rain.

And how can we just say, oh, we're just going to meet 1 day a week?

And so a few of us kept praying, kept praying.

I had to take off to Southeast Asia for a month and a half, but kept praying about this, came back, and the Lord just made it really clear that He wanted us to meet every day.

So we decided to meet from 1 o'clock to 2 o'clock.

We open up our doors and whoever wants to come.

And we believe that praying is not a wasting of time.

And since March 29, every day from Monday through Friday, We're just praying.

Praying for our ministries, praying for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, praying for world evangelization.

And sometimes, you know, we have maybe only 2 people show up, sometimes we have 10.

But regardless of how many people show up, we use the conversational prayer format which we've been using this morning, which is just such a blessing.

I share this with you because I want to encourage you to go back, whether it's just with a few or with the whole church, get together and pray.

Alright, let's pray and we will get into the message for this morning.

Christ, only Christ, no needless busting sound.

Christ only Christ, no self-important bearing.

Christ only Christ, no trace of I be found.

This morning I want to tell you about something that I began doing a year ago that has just blessed my life tremendously.

I have begun to see more answers to prayers.

But not only that, I am experiencing more victory over temptation.

The trials in my life seem much easier and the burdens seem much lighter.

Can you remember the last time you complained?

I'm sure it wasn't at Army Bible Camp, amen?

Can you remember the last time where you complained and you said, you know what, I have a right to complain.

Well, if anybody could have complained, it could have been Paul and Silas.

Let's pick the story up in Acts chapter 16, verse 23.

It says, when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely.

Paul and Silas were unjustly Arrested because they had cast a spirit of divination out of a girl.
