Points of View- Part 1

Our loving Father, we come to you, Lord, with nothing present but ourselves as your earthen vessels, presenting your word from your point of view.

And we ask, Lord, that you'll help these young people be able to gather together information and wisdom that will be able to guide them and they walk through this life in your name we pray.

So our seminar here is Entitled points of view God we're going to share with you some information this afternoon and introduce yourselves to us.

We're not regular presenters here, we just happen to be parents of 1 of your classmates.

And as you can see on the screen there, she decided to share a fairly recent picture of us so you'll be able to recognize us some other time.

Well, we only have 100 minutes, so, and like my husband said, we have no other credentials except what God has given to us, so, but you are today our children, okay?

Our adult children, our young adult children.

And because you're our children, we thought this scripture would be very appropriate.

My son and daughter, please hear the instruction of your father and forsake not the law of your mother but truly this is the we're trying to present from the Word of the Lord all right the over oh go ahead as we said before our credentials here are simple We bring to you our study of the scriptures, our personal life experiences, both good and bad, observation of our peers, and a lot of knee time.

And the overarching thought that we want you all to get from this is from Proverbs 4.23.

And we'll come back to this several times.

Because out of the things that you let in are the issues of life.

And we have experienced what that really means.

Do you want good issues or do you want bad issues?

So first question, how many of you would like to date?

It's not loaded, it's not a trick question.

Okay, campus security, get that 1, that 1, that 1.

How many of you would like to be in a relationship?

So you guys, if you wanna be in a relationship, I'm just gonna put it out there.

Let's add 1 more point Our first session here will cover Encapsulate this how you can be interesting from God's view and we want to make a disclaimer here that we're referring to dating and courting kind of synonymously here.

Dating we define as making appointments to get to know and spend time with someone.

Courting is called the wing of 1 person by another and can be mutual.

But we're gonna use them interchangeably so we wanna make sure we clarify those definitions.

And we're covering dating initially from the 10, 000 foot view.

We believe dating is a character assessment, a lifestyle evaluation.

So as we've gotten our claims a little mixed up here, does this express for any of you your search for someone special in your life Don't all raise your hands at the same time because I've been there you've been there And I will then now return to our disclaimer as we discussed earlier, dating, courting interchangeably, but moving forward.

Well, my wife and I believe dating is first and foremost a character assessment, a lifestyle evaluation.

We kind of see it as akin to a lifetime interview process.

We're going to give you lots of scripture to support our research and we'll start here with Matthew chapter 7 verse 17 and 18.

And it says, It says, even so every good tree brings forth good fruit, but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

Wherefore by your fruits, your fruits, you shall know them.

So dating is a little bit of an inspection of fruit.

We have to kind of inspect to know what we're getting, right?

Again, dating, we're just using that term, courting, All of it is spending time to assess characters.

So please don't get caught up on the words, OK?

All right, because I know that's a question in today's age.

You know, when my husband and I were dating, This was like way back in the dark ages.

Well, we, 1 day he thought I'm going to surprise her for her birthday.

And he and my roommate, they made plans together and he kidnapped me.

And they blindfolded me and put me in the car.

And I was very energetic, and I was screaming, help!

Of course, the police never turned and saw, but we had fun.

My roommate and my husband got together, and they made this plan so that we could just celebrate our birthday.

So it can be fun, But it is not for the purpose of fun.

It can be fun, but it's not for the purpose of fun.

We also believe from God's view, it's a genuine progression toward unselfishness.

So as we start out, it's about what we want and what we want.

But for you to actually date, you've got to come together, comedy, a meeting of minds, some common relationships here, some relationship building.

And we found very strongly that as that friction goes on, it builds a case where you care about someone you unselfishly give to that other person.

Looking at Galatians chapter 2, verse 20, it gives us a template here.

When we look at a person, you have to ask, is there an establishment of unselfishness taking place in their life is their character building.

But those of you who have joined us, which looks like there may be a few of you, we're discussing points of view from God's view.

Session 2, we're gonna review 1 of the tracks we discussed in readiness when we were talking before.

What does God want me to do to make myself interesting?

Now we want to look discuss what to look for in the other person.

We just thought we'd be really cool and use this expression because I hear that you guys use this stuff on like Instagram and stuff, okay?

What does he want us to value in each other?

So let's start with what a woman needs in a man, okay?

That's always the right answer, but it is true.

Anyone dear to venture outside of spirituality and strong?

Something else that we as women may want in our men.

So I'm going to share with you some of the things that my husband and I gleaned from scripture that a woman might want in a man.

Okay, obviously, number 1 is true godliness, True godliness.

I just kind of liked this scripture from Acts talking about David, where God said, I have found David, a man after mine own heart.

Because 1 Corinthians 11.3, not yet, not in the relationship, but what's the goal of, what is 1 of the goals of a relationship glorifying God and the other is marriage so I what would it says first Corinthians 11 3 But I would have you know that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, the head of Christ is God.

What woman in here wants a man to be the head of them that isn't godly.

And this godly man, we learn from Ephesians that The godly man is representing Christ for the woman, that he might sanctify and cleanse it with a washing of water by the word.

That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that it should be holy and without blemish.

You know, our guys should help to bring out the beauty in us, the inner beauty.

You don't want to stifle your woman, but my husband will talk about the man.

And the gentleness that you talked about over here is also a part of that security because we don't want to feel like someone will abuse us emotionally or physically and the strength is also part of that security.

So Ephesians 5 25 28 and 29 because we know that's a model Christ in his church is a model for marital relationships.

Husbands love your wives even as Christ so loved the church and gave himself for it.

My daughter probably knows, I say, I don't drive on long trips.

I'm capable of driving 14 to 16 hours when he's not there.

But when he is there, all of a sudden, I cannot drive.

And he'll be falling asleep, and he's still driving.

And that's a really great quality that women look for in men.

Of course, I learned I want to say this as a caveat.

So the other thing is good communication.

We want a man to be able to communicate with us.

And when he communicates what we talked about before, that it's not with profanity, that it's not harsh, that all those good communication things, 1 Timothy 2, 8 says, sound speech that cannot be condemned, that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

Because our husbands eventually are, and when we're looking for the person that we're interested in, we want to make sure that his speech is sound.

And the Bible said that it's not good for man to be alone.
