Do You Love Me?

We're laying a foundation, laying a foundation.

Do you realize in this section that Peter has been given supernatural powers?

Matthew chapter 10, Matthew chapter 10, and we're looking at verse number 2, and we're just doing a Bible study.

I'm not gonna do any flips for you if you were looking for that.

Matthew chapter 10, and we're looking now at verse 1 and 2.

The Bible says, and when he had called unto him the 12 disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits to cast them out and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.

Now the name of the 12 apostles are these, the first Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother.

Now I want you to notice that in the order of greatness, if you will, the first disciple mentioned in the order of great apostles is Peter.

Luke chapter 8, Luke chapter 8, Luke chapter 8, we're looking now.

Luke chapter 8, we're going to begin reading at verse 41.

Luke chapter 8, begin reading at verse 41.

And behold, there came a man named Jairus.

He was a ruler of the synagogue, and he fell down at Jesus' feet and besought him that he would come into his house.

For he had 1 only daughter, about 12 years of age, and she lay dying.

And a woman having an issue of blood 12 years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, came behind him and touched the border of his garment, and immediately her issue of blood staunched.

There's now we're about to see a little bit about Peter, a little bit more about Peter.

When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude thronged thee and pressed thee, and sayest thou, who touched me?

Now my friends, I don't know if you've ever imagined yourself walking with Jesus.

Anybody ever imagine yourself walking with Jesus?

I imagine myself walking with Jesus, like me and his friend, going everywhere he's going and talking with him and sitting at his feet.

And in my mind, when I think of Jesus, I think Jesus is God.

You ever talk to somebody and as you're talking to them, they say something stupid?

They say something stupid and you look at them like, what do you mean, why are you asking that question?

This is what humanity is doing to God right here.

They're like, what do you mean who touched you?

How can you ask such a dumb question, Jesus?

Humanity questioning the divinity and wisdom of God.

But Peter, now mind you, all the disciples asked the question, but Peter is the more loud mouth 1.

So I want you to see the character of this man.

When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, master, the multitude thronged thee and pressed thee and saith thou, touch me?

And Jesus said, somebody hath touched me.

For I perceive that virtue has gone out of me.

Now my friends, that passage, and this is not my sermon, but that passage is so deep.

It's almost like when people come to church, right?

And when they come to church, they all hear the same message, but not everybody feels the power of the reception of that message.

They're all pressing, they're all touching Jesus, but they're not all receiving the blessing God intends in that touch.

Now we're gonna jump down, and she's healed.

Everybody knows that part of the story, but I want you to jump a little bit further, and I want you to go to verse number 50.

Now some people came to the ruler of Jairus and said, your daughter is dead.

Verse 50, but when Jesus heard it, he answered him saying, fear not, believe only and she shall be made whole.

And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in save, now watch who he saved, save Peter and James and John and the father and mother of the maiden, and all wept and bewailed her.

But he said, Weep not, she is not dead, but sleepeth.

And they laughed him to scorn." Wait, who are they laughing to scorn?

Please recognize that humanity has this problem where we either question God or we laugh God to his face.

This is not relegated to these people in these days.

They laughed and they scorned knowing that she was dead.

And when he put them all out and took her by the hand and called saying, made arise.

And the spirit came again and she arose straightway and he commanded to give her meat.

And her parents were astonished, but he charged them that they should tell no man what was done." Now pause for a second.

Who's in the room when this 1 young lady is brought back to life?

So Peter is front row seat to see Jesus raise somebody from the dead.

He sees something that doesn't make sense, he even questions God himself.

And in John chapter 6, this is 1 of that straight testimony chapter when Jesus said, if you don't eat my flesh and drink my blood, you have no part in me.

And when he says this, a great multitude leave Jesus and never follow Jesus ever again.

The Wise

Our Father in heaven, thank you for the privilege that we have again to just study.

In these few short moments, Lord, we ask for wisdom that is beyond our years, especially as we peruse scriptures that are familiar to us.

Help us to take that which is most important to all our hearts.

Daniel and John are my favorite characters outside of Jesus himself.

And we're going just to look at his character and how his abiding with Christ is an example to us.

You have your Bibles, open to Daniel chapter 1.

Daniel chapter 1 and we're going to begin reading at verse number 1.

And I'm going to try to be aware of my time.

Daniel chapter 1 in verse 1, the Bible says, in the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, came Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, unto Jerusalem and besieged it.

And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand with the part of the vessels of the house of God, which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his God.

And he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his God.

And the king spake to the Ashpenaz, the master of his eunuchs, that he should bring certain of the children of Israel and of the king's seed and of the princes, children in whom was no blemish, but well favored and skillful and wisdom and cunning and knowledge and understanding science and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.

Now, what I did was I was observing the text as I normally do when I read the scriptures, and this earthly monarch, this king, Nebuchadnezzar, has several requirements.

The first 1 was that he was looking for children of Israel that had no blemish, no blemish.

The second was that they were looking for people who were skillful in wisdom.

Thirdly, he was looking for folks cunning in knowledge.

Fourthly, he's looking for people that had an understanding of science, fifthly, that they had an ability to stand in the king's palace.

And we're gonna come to that point, explain that point further as we go along.

They were able to teach them the learning and the language or tongue of the Chaldeans.

Now I thought it was interesting that an earthly monarch would have such high standards.

I find it interesting that an earthly monarch would have such high standards for who he would want to stand in his court.

But as I look at these 6 points here, I think to myself, well, these 6 points are no different from what our King in heaven would want, is that right?

Our King in heaven wants people that have no blemish.

He wants people that are skillful in wisdom and cunning in knowledge.

He wants us to understand the true science of nature.

He wants us to have the ability to stand before his throne.

And He wants us to be able to learn the language, not of the Chaldeans, but the language of heaven.

So, these 6 things are very important, but I'm going to introduce a seventh, and this seventh 1 was demonstrated and amplified by Daniel himself.

He purposed, should be with a D, in his heart.

Go back to Daniel chapter 1, and I want us to look at verse number 8.

It says, but Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank.

Therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself." Now I thought this was interesting.

Now I'm going to ask you a question and we're going to talk a little bit more in this group setting here.

So what does it mean to purpose in one's heart?

Anyone else, what does it mean to purpose in your heart?

Okay, I have a question for you, another 1.

Have you purposed in your heart to live a life wholly consecrated to God?

Like a resolve, a pure 100% I will not compromise my stand on whatever it might be?

Have you made that decision in your heart?

Because once you make that resolute decision, I tell you, this 1 decision led Daniel from being a captive in Babylon to being a prince in Babylon.

This decision right here, because if Daniel never purposed in his heart in verse 8 he would have never been the top of all the princes in Daniel chapter 6.

There's a resolution, there's a purpose in one's heart.

And again, I wanna ask you, personally, have you made a resolute decision to follow after God with 100% of what you are?

So in verse 8 it says, Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with a portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank.

Therefore, he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

Now, that word defile, when it's used, is directly connected with sanctuary language, you know, defiling the sanctuary.

Why do you say grace before, is it a, what kind of grace do you say?

Do you know that the only reason why you do that is because you're offering food to the God of heaven?

And the body temple, the food that you're offering, you're offering to the God of heaven.

It's a thank offering that you're taking into your body.

We don't take blood sacrifice into our body.

Blood sacrifice is the animal with the blood and fat in it.

What's normally in a thank offering in the Bible?

Do you realize that Daniel says, I'm gonna eat pulse?

He's taking thank offering, he's bringing it and he's offering it to the God of heaven.

He's putting those holy things into the body temple.

He resolves and purposes his heart not to defile the temple.

Now, please keep that in mind, because as he's purposing his heart not to defile the temple, why are they in Babylon in the first place?

They are in Babylon because they defiled the earthly temple.

So God says, because you have desecrated the earthly temple, now you're going to be captive in Babylon.

Now Daniel says, well, I am a sanctuary myself.

The Mantle

Our Father in heaven, we thank you for the privilege that we have again.

The sun is shining, the breeze is blowing.

And we have this opportunity in nature, Lord, to open the Bible and to study.

We ask, Father, for the gift of the Holy Spirit, which is the only effectual teacher of truth.

And we pray this in the name of Jesus and claim the marriage of his blood, amen.

So this morning's subject matter is the divine mantle.

And subtitle is, when you cannot see him, you must trust him.

When you cannot see him, you must trust him.

So I looked up what the word mantle meant in the online and I just wanted to get someone else's perspective.

It says, question what is a mantle in the Bible?

The answer, although there are variations of the meaning of mantle in the Bible, the main idea is that of a covering such as a cloak or other article of clothing.

The New American Standard Bible uses the word mantle in Joshua 7, 21 and Hebrews 1, 12.

In the former passage, the ESV translates the word as a cloak, and in the latter, robe.

In biblical times, a mantle was typically a large, loosely fitting garment made of animal skin, probably sheepskin.

Several people are mentioned as wearing a mantle including Job and Ezra.

Prophets, pay attention now, prophets were known for wearing mantles as a sign of their calling from God.

The prophet Samuel wore a mantle, the prophet Elijah threw his cloak or mantle as a symbol of the passage of his ministry from Elijah to Elisha.

The prophet's mantle was an indication of his authority and responsibility as God's chosen spokesman.

We're going to open our Bibles now to the book of Revelation if you don't mind.

And the question that has been in my mind, because we've been talking about abiding in Christ, right?

But my question is, who did Christ abide in?

We talk about abiding in Christ, but my question is who did Christ abide in?

So we're going to look first in the book of Revelation chapter 14, and we're going to read the third angel's message.

Revelation chapter 14, and we're going to read the third angel's message.

Revelation chapter 14 and we're going to read the third angel's message beginning at verse number 9.

The Bible says, And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, if any man worship the beast and his image and receive his mark in his forehead or in his hand, the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation.

And he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb.

And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up forever and ever, and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

Verse 12, here is the patience of the saints.

Keep The commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

Now, I've read this passage many times over.

All 3 angels we've memorized, but this 1 in particular, the third angel, we're told that the third angel's message is righteousness by faith in verity.

That's what we're told about this third angel's message, that it is righteousness by faith in verity.

Yeah, if you read the quote, the quote says, the third angel is righteousness by faith and verity.

And I can show you afterwards if that's all right.

So in my mind, as I was reading the third angel, I'm reading through the passage, and let's read through it once more.

I'm gonna read verse 9, You tell me what you see.

And a third angel followed with a loud voice saying, If any man worship the beast in his image and receive his mark in his forehead or in his hand, the saint shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation.

I'm curious how this is righteousness by faith in verity.

And then it says he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the Holy Angels and in the presence of the Lamb.

Again, I'm curious how this is righteousness by faith in verity.

And then it says, and the smoke of the torment ascends up forever and ever, and they have no rest day nor night who worship the beast and his image and whosoever received the mark of his name.

I'm curious, how is that righteousness by faith in verity?

The last verse says, here is the patience of the saints.

Here are they that keep the commandments of God and have the faith of Jesus.

Now please note in verse number 10, it tells us the results of those who received the mark of the beast and his image.

It tells us the same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God.

So I want to identify for us what the wrath of God is.

But before I do that, go with me to Revelation chapter 6.

And we're going to begin reading at verse number 12.

What we're doing again, we're just laying a foundation.

Revelation chapter 6 and we're at verse number 12.

And it says, I beheld, when he had opened the sixth hill and lo, there was a great earthquake and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair and the moon became as blood and the stars of heaven fell to the earth even as a fig tree cast of her untimely figs when she is shaken of a mighty wind.

And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together, and every mountain and every island was moved out of their places, and the kings of the earth and the great men and the rich men and the chief captains and the mighty men and every bondman and every free man hid themselves in the dens and the rocks of the mountains and said to the mountains and rocks fall on us and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne And from the wrath of the Lamb, for the great day of his wrath has come, and who shall be able to stand?

It's not something that you normally see.

And also, I think there's something very strange about this passage as well.

You see that you guys have mountains out here.

Can you imagine humanity running to the mountain and begging an inanimate object to fall on them?

There's something great and momentous that is transpiring here that is causing the people to run to the rocks instead of running to the Lamb.

We're going to run to the rocks instead of running to the Lamb.

There's something that has transpired that has caused them to be in this place.

I want us to go now with me to the book of Matthew chapter 26.

Matthew 26 and here we're going to see our Lord.

In Matthew 26, and we're going to begin reading at verse number 36.

Matthew 26 and verse 36, and we're talking about abiding.

Matthew 26 verse 36, it says, Then cometh Jesus with them into a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here while I go and pray yonder.

And he took with him Peter and the 2 sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.

Then saith he unto them, " watch what he says, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto, " what's the word my friend?

And he went a little farther and fell on his face and prayed saying, O my father, If it be possible, let this cup pass from me, nevertheless, not as I will, but as what?

So I want you to notice something here, my friends.

And again, we're going to take a long look at Jesus today.

When you look at Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, it says that He's exceeding sorrowful even unto death.

Jesus is dying without 1 whip, without 1 nail.

Jesus is already suffering the penalty of sin in the garden.

I want you to keep this in mind because sometimes we focus on the physical pain of Jesus when reality my friends is he is dying right here in the garden with no human hand touching him.

It says in verse number 37, and he took with him Peter, 2 sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.

Then saith he unto them, My soul is sinning, sorrowful, even unto death.
