Revelation is full of numbers and codes and a lot of symbols, especially the number 7.

On this episode of Inverse, the last subtext we find, the 7 plagues, on this episode of Inverse.

Hi everyone, we're so happy you decided to join us for this week in our study of Revelation on Inverse.

We have our guys, this is the guys, another guys only episode and we're in 1 of the 1 of the tough chapters of Revelation, Revelation 15 and Revelation 16.

When we look at Revelation we've talked about the the structure of the sanctuary and going to the holy place and the most holy place, we saw 7 7 sevens, yeah?

What are some sevens that we've seen throughout the book of Revelation?

7 churches, we got the 7 seals, 7 seals, and then 7 trumpets, right?

And those sevens all paralleling each other in the holy place, but now we're kind of have shifted gears Where I think someone said there was a hinge and now we're in a new section and now in the whole most holy place There's a another septet this septet is different this group of 7 is not connected to the first 3 and we're spend some time today on that so Jared if you can have a prayer for us and ask the Lord for his blessing yeah let's pray father thank you for your word as we study it especially this heavier chapter we pray that you'd lead us to your son Jesus give us wisdom we pray in your name amen amen and then Sebastian chapter 15 of Revelation and I want you read from verse 1 and 2 to 3 all right Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous, 7 angels having the 7 last plagues, for in them the wrath of God is complete.

And I saw something like a sea of glass mingled with fire, and those who have the victory over the beast, over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, having harps of God, they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvelous are your works, Lord God Almighty.

Just and true are your ways, O King of Saints.

Verse 4, who shall not fear you, O Lord, and glorify your name?

For you alone are holy, and all nations shall come and worship before you, for your judgments have manifested.

After these things I looked and behold the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened and out of the temple came out the 7 angels having the 7 plagues clothed in pure linen and having their chests girded with golden bands." Jared verse 7 and 8 please.

Then 1 of the 4 living creatures gave to the 7 angels 7 golden bowls full of the wrath of God who lives forever and ever The temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from his power and no 1 was able to enter the temple to the 7 plagues of the 7 angels were completed." All right, that's chapter 15, 1 of the shortest chapters of Revelation.

Chapter 16 is going to kind of pretty much expound on what those 7 last plagues are.

What's significant about this passage is that before we are introduced to what the 7 plagues do, to their accomplishment, to their effect and impact, we have first a picture that is a picture of victory, a picture of success and of overcoming and you find that specifically in verse...

In chapter 15 and verse 2 It says and I saw something like a sea of glass mingled with fire and notice what it says about this sea on top of that sea you have people who are standing who had victory over the beast 1 over his image 2 over his mark 3 and over the number of his name 4 and then the Bible says that these individuals are standing on the sea of glass with the harps of God and so when you have what you have here described is a group of people that is first of all...

God's people are standing, they're not broken, they're not fallen, they're standing, that means that they've accomplished a victorious end and then it says here that they've been victorious over the beast, over his image, over his number, over like every single element of that power, of that beast.

And so you have here, in other words, you have a picture of God's people being tested, and them being able to succeed in each of those tests that have been given, and so you have you have there that picture of success.

Then it goes into that song that is being sung, and that song is a song of these individuals proclaiming that God is a God of justice, that God is a God of righteousness, and that He's now vindicating His people that have suffered these things.

Yeah, I think that that's a key point, because before the Bible discloses essentially these judgments of God upon the earth before Jesus comes, it flashes forward, and it essentially describes what we will say as those people whom God has saved in looking back and saying, God, you are just, you are righteous.

Like we see everything that you've done, as they have experienced it, as they examine the records and so forth, and they essentially audit what God has done and said, you are righteous.

I mean, if you stand back, it's almost as if the judgment, God has already in His mind and in His wisdom and His omniscience, He's already judged people.

But here, it seems like He's opening Himself up to be judged by human beings.

And human beings are like, look, we looked at the records and we saw, and God, your decisions are good.

Well, think about, he's the kind of person, he's so confident in his ways being true and just that he's willing to give it exposure.

And I believe Christianity, 1 of the things that makes it unique as a religion is it invites evaluation.

It invites judgment and criticism, right?

You don't have to convert in order to evaluate and to test and see is Christianity legit or is it not?

God is the God who set it from the very top and to say, look, you can evaluate me.

You can come now and let's reason together.

See my ways, behold how I did things, and let me know, am I just, am I not just?

And I feel like that kind of removes the seed of doubt that was initially planted by Lucifer from the very beginning.

These are like principles of what, transparency and accountability that successful businesses are advocating, successful governments are advocating, but this isn't...

These are old concepts, these are not modern concepts, God has it in his character to do that.

From the very beginning what Satan has said is false, and that's proven over and over and over again, and for someone, for us as human beings to just to consider God and to look at Him as a God that is unjust, it's just simply not possible when you understand who He is.

There's a few things I think that verse 4 point out.

Yeah, so There it says, who shall not fear you, O Lord, and glorify your name?

And there it says, why, for you alone are holy.

I think that's a critical phrase in this passage.

We have a situation where we, as God's people, want vindication, right?

Like, hey, I followed the method God, I followed the path, I followed you, and because I have followed you, I have suffered injustice.

And we have this feeling a lot of times, right?

Vindicate us, God, because we are right, we are holy, what we have done is we are just, but then at the conclusion of everything it's actually, actually we're not just.

Yeah, and and here he's saying you alone are holy, even in the times where I thought I was right and someone was misrepresenting me or someone was persecuting me or I suffered for your sake actually I didn't I was never right I was never holy the holiness is strictly and only belonging to you and so we have this acknowledgement of God's people that nothing in this life has ever changed God he's been holy yesterday today and forever and we will have the ability to proclaim this is a cool hymn that they're singing because you know in verse 2 they had a victory over the beast a victory over his name And I know in a carnal sense, if you've just won this awesome award, be like, yes, awesome, we just did it.

But they can't say that because at the end, they're like, they're praising God.

They have no self, no self- Glorification.

Or, and think about the fact that the song of Moses, right, that when they sang a song, they were delivered.

Right, so this is not, Moses is not singing a song because like, oh, look what I did and delivered my people.

It's like, no, we're singing a song, which is the Lord is the 1 that plunged Pharaoh and his chariots into the sea right and made a way for us so he is our God and I will prepare him right that habitation my father's God so when you go back to those songs back then it was a song of deliverance from the very beginning that God did for us what we could never have accomplished for ourselves.

I mean, this is, there are some elements if you do a superficial reading, so help me out with this.

Like there's some people they say, you know, who shall not fear you, oh Lord.

And we talked about the 3 angels message fear God and there's these elements of the plagues coming out and all this destruction and judgment Going on like it's kind of kind of scary, you know And so how do we does any balance or does it need realignment and understanding what's going on?

Well, I think as we get into the plagues okay it helps to understand like in 16 verse 1 if we could go there yeah it says the 16 revolution 16 what and I'll just read it then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the 7 angels go and pour out the bowls of the wrath of God upon the earth." So in these plagues, it's like they're containers for God's wrath.

His thoughts, if you apply the biblical principle, is his thoughts and his ways are above our thoughts and ways.

We get into trouble when we make him out to be like us, like we've ticked him off and he's really angry and now he's just gonna give us what we deserve.

Like dark hooded Emperor who's just angry and wants to fry us with his electricity Exactly.

Okay, so so if I could just if you could hear we could turn to the book of Romans chapter 1 Is a perfect example, okay Romans 1 okay so in Romans chapter 1 verse 16, it's talking about the everlasting gospels that the righteousness of God is revealed.

Well then after that in verse 18 it says that the wrath of God is revealed.

In verse 24 it says God gave them over to what they wanted.

In verse 26 God's wrath is them giving them up to their vile passions.

In verse 28 God gives them over to a debased mind.

The crazy thing about God's wrath is it's not that he's coming you know in anger, God's wrath is essentially him saying what you've always wanted, I'm gonna give it to you.

Lewis says either we say your will be done or God will say your will be done.

Hell is a place that's locked from the inside.

You locked yourself in, God did not shut you in and then, you know, locked the door and throw away the key.

And I think that's key, you know, from what you're saying in Romans.

So the context of these 7 plagues then, our humanity has made their choice for these things.

God ultimately is giving them what they desired.

I think that we're gonna see that as we start going through these plagues.

What's important, I think for us to understand is that there is no, a lot of times we try to make balance God out, all right, so God is an angry God but his anger is balanced with kindness and mercy and so it kind of depends what time of the day you have an interaction with them you know like if you get him at 5 that's during his time...
