A Final Appeal to Advent HOPE and the Last Generation

And as Javid says, it's not just a rumor, it really is true.

This really is my last sermon to Advent Hope while I live here, and perhaps the last 1 ever.

And that's not for me to say, but just by way of update I have used the beginning of my sermons to kind of let you know what's happening.

The call has finally gone through for us to go to Trinidad.

And we will be going to Trinidad 1st of March.

We will be in Loma Linda through the end of January.

And I'll be gone the next 3 Sabbaths after today and Then I may be here 1 Sabbath in January and then I'll be doing like hospital rounds on the neurology service the last 2 weeks of January.

So really this is 1 of my very last Sabbaths here as well, so 1 of my last opportunities to share with you.

And you know it's been a great privilege and a blessing for me to be part of this group.

And I have a lot of things to say, probably not enough time, but more time than usual.

We've got up here at 1015, so thank you to everyone.

And thank you for the music this morning.

While the seventh trumpet is sounding, the mystery shall be finished.

And it was written in 1844 describing the experience of the Advent movement.

Those people understood the experience of that song.

And We need to understand the experience of that song as well.

So thank you for singing some of my favorite songs today.

Why don't we have a word of prayer and we'll get started.

Father in heaven, we thank you for this Sabbath day.

We thank you for the privilege to be here at Advent Hope 1 more time.

I pray that you would be with me, bless me, and speak through me.

May I be lost, side of Him, may Christ be lifted up.

You know, it's been 8 years since Admonit Hope started.

Adamant Hope started January of 2002, first Sabbath of January, and there were 20 of us who met over in the Schumann Pavilion, room 605B.

We had a hard time finding it because there was room 605 and we didn't realize that you could put a partition to make part A and part B.

And we found out on that Sabbath that there was another group meeting there as well, so that made for an interesting first Sabbath.

We met there maybe 2 or 3 weeks, and then we moved over to West Hall.

And we stayed at West Hall until about spring of 2004.

We were kind of bulging at the seams in West Hall with about 80 people coming by them.

And so after about 2 plus years in West Hall, we made the move to Burden Hall, where we were at from 2004 through June of this year.

And obviously the Lord blessed in a great way during our time there.

And We transitioned from having just a lesson study to having a lesson study from 9 to 10 and a sermon from 10 to 11.

Since that time we've been having close to 300 people coming on Sabbath.

And obviously numbers are not the most important thing.

It's the quality of the characters of the people that come and that are produced that we care more about, but it's been so good to see how the Lord has blessed and how this group has grown.

And it's interesting, I was on the original group of leaders that started Advent Hope.

And I believe that I am the last 1 left on the leadership team and now I'm leaving too.

You know, that's the nature of Loma Linda.

Loma Linda tends to be a place of turnover and transition.

And I never dreamed that I would be in Loma Linda for nearly 10 years of my life.

I moved here in the summer of 2000 and I was just, I had just turned 23 years old, and boy, I thought I knew so much.

And then I hit med school, and I realized I didn't know anything.

And by the grace of God, I became a doctor and became a neurologist and have been able to participate in helping relieve suffering and continue the teaching and healing ministry of Jesus Christ here at Loma Linda.

And I am thankful for that opportunity that I've had here.

Coming to the end of my time in Loma Linda, coming to the end of 8 years here at Advent Hope, you know, it's nice to leave with a very positive feeling about Advent Hope.

Sometimes people leave under a cloud of whatever.

And to be able to have so many friendships here, to have had so many positive experiences, to have created so many lifelong friendships, lifelong memories.

You know, I don't know, I just feel so blessed how many people have had the opportunity that I've had and that many of us have had here to be here, to see the moving of the Holy Spirit, to see God work in a powerful way, to see that God still wants to come back, and that he's going to have a group of people that are talking about his coming and that are proclaiming it and that are living in preparation for that.

To have had that opportunity here at Loma Linda, boy if you had told me the end from the beginning when I moved here 10 years ago I probably would have fell over.

I just cannot believe, humanly speaking, the privileges that I have had while living here in Loma Linda.

You know, I can trace the major conversion of my life to my freshman year of medical school back in 2001, going to a church retreat, and I was challenged by the messages of Peter Gregory.

And that was a turning point in my life, and it was ironic.

It happened for me several months before September 11, 2001.

And when September 11, 2001 came, that was just like the explosion for so many of us that, you know, it's not just enough to be on fire for God, we've got to do something about it.

We need to share the message of a soon-coming Savior with the world and we need a place on campus to share this message.

And so a group of us got together and by the grace of God within a few months after September 11, Advent Hope started.

And within a year after that the first GYC happened at Pine Springs Ranch, and the conversion experiences that came from there, I know talking to Paul and Janie, Paul who's 1 of our leaders here at Advent Hope, just how they can trace the moving of the Holy Spirit to that experience way back December of 2002.

I can remember the first restoration when Peter Gregory came to campus for 2 and a half weeks at the Campus Hill Church, and how it was just a further fire in my bones for doing something for God, hearing the messages, seeing the lives that were changed.

And then the following year, the next restoration, more people were converted.

Jason and Janelle Shives, who are no longer here, they came in strong.

Now they've gone to Orlando and started a similar group over there.

I remember the first Southwest Youth Conference, which for better or for worse I had the opportunity to help lead out with.

Boy, it was only by the grace of God that we made it that year financially, that He provided for us.

And the way the Holy Spirit moved at that conference, Brad and Amber Strother came in through that, they became leaders here and now they're active in a church in North Carolina.

You can see how people have come here, how lives have been changed and people have gone from this place to serve God in other places.

And I hope those of you who may be new to Loma Linda, maybe this is your first year of medical school or dental school or 1 of the other allied health professional schools, you will take the opportunity while you are here in school to get training to go out to other churches when you leave here to share this message with the world.

You know, there's 1 of the other very positive things that happened to me in my time here in Long Island.

In my senior year of medical school, I had the opportunity to spend a few weeks with Peter Gregory in his Iona school, going to school with him every day, and we were going through the book of Revelation.

And as many of you know, I have a deep love for Daniel and Revelation.

And I really gained it from going through those classes with him.

And 1 of the other things, good things that happened to me while I was at Iona.

I became very good friends with Alistair Huang and I see his family is here today.

Alistair and I became really good friends during that time and it was during that time that he introduced the idea to me of a young lady who would become my wife, and I will forever be grateful to Alistair for that.

You know Proverbs 18, 22 says, whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing and obtaineth favor of the Lord.

And I can truly say that I have found a good wife.

And I feel the favor of God because of that.

And that's, I guess I'd have to say that was easily the best thing that happened to me while I was here in Loma Linda, getting married to Joelle.

And I'm thankful for Advent Hope, because Advent Hope is my family and I will miss you." And this was not part of the script.

As I considered what to say in my last message to you, the thing that came to mind is talking 1 more time about our prophetic identity and mission for us as a people.

You know, it'll be interesting to get to heaven and see through God's eyes what happened here in Loma Linda the last few years.

And it's been a blessing to be here, and I'm just thankful for all the experiences that we've had.

And I wanted to talk a little bit about God's message to His last day people as we come to the end of our time, As I come to the end of my time, and as I come to my opportunity to move on and do mission service, and you know, 1 of the great things that I appreciate about Loma Linda is the opportunity to be part of the mission program.

And I had the opportunity to sign up for the deferred mission program back when I started medical school.

And when you sign up for that, it's like, oh, someday when I finish medical school and someday when I finish residency I will someday go to the mission field.

And all of a sudden nearly 10 years later the imminent departure to Trinidad is here.

And I'm really thankful for the opportunity to go and to go to the mission field and to be able to serve the Lord in that capacity, but I definitely will miss the fellowship that I've had here with all of you.

And you know, we do have a mission to take to the world, and so I'm thankful for the opportunity to take this message and mission to Trinidad.
