Ecuador Mission Trip Information Session

Father God, we're here, Lord, because You call each 1 of us to be a vital part of Your body.

We're not to take a passive approach to our Christianity, but Lord, You want us to shine as lights in a dark place and shine in such a way that our works are seen as glory to God, and then people would turn to Him and give Him the glory and honor and praise.

And Lord, there is a world out there that by and large is lost.

And there are people among the group of people that are lost, that are seeking, that are just yearning to know about the Savior who came and died for them and loves them and wants to come again and take them to Himself.

And so, Lord, we just pray today that as we prepare our hearts to partake in this mission trip, or if we're just here, Lord, to learn more information and we're unsure, that You would move on each heart individually, Lord, and that You would make Your call clear and Your will clear as to whether or not this trip is right.

And Lord, and I'm praying that it is for each person, but Lord, what component each individual will play in this trip.

So I look forward to the next hour or so together.

And Father God, we just ask that the Holy Spirit be with us in a rich way and that the holy angels would attend to us just now.

I pastor in the Detroit area at the Warren Church.

And for the last 4 years or so, I have been a volunteer team leader slash mission trip coordinator with Quiet Hour Ministries based out in Redlands, California.

Are any of you very familiar with Quiet Hour Ministries?

Quiet hour's emphasis when it comes to doing mission, when that ministry started over 80 years ago, their emphasis was a radio broadcast, and that's why it was called the quiet hour.

But over time, the ministry has evolved to what it is today.

And what that is, is a ministry to send God's people out into the mission field and to equip you to do the work of an evangelist.

Pastor Darrell has been on 1 of the trips with me and now he's been asked to be a team leader as well.

And so he's actually going to be there as my partner and my trainee during this trip.

This is going to be his training trip and then the next trip he goes on after this 1 will be the 1 that he leads.

And so what's really amazing is the ministry is propped up very heavily upon volunteer workers.

Without the volunteers, the ministry would not exist.

So I want to thank you all in advance for your interest.

It's an investment not only financially, but it's an investment with your time as well.

When we invest in the Lord and in His work, as we've heard all week long, He pays us back in big dividends.

And the blessings that you will receive on this trip, and I don't want us to go in to go on a mission trip with the wrong idea, like, what is it in it for me?

I want us to go in thinking, Lord, what can I do to be a servant and a conduit of Your grace to the people that I'm going to interact with?

However, cause and effect, when we go and do this and we put our hearts in the hands of the Lord and we're willing to be used as instruments for God, there is no doubt that when you come back, your life will be changed in 1 aspect or another.

My first mission trip was back in 2015 with the Quiet Hour.

And I can remember when I was invited, it was a youth in my church that I was pastoring said, you know, Pastor, I've signed up for this mission trip with the Quiet Hour ministry.

In my mind, all I'd ever heard of growing up was Fidel Castro and communism and all these horrible relations between the U.S.

And I was very apprehensive, but I said you know what, I think the Lord's calling me to do it.

And I went on the trip, and my life has not been the same ever since.

I've been to Cuba since then about 8 different times.

And even on my own dime and my own time rather than going along with a mission trip because I've gone back to do some follow-up work with the churches there.

And you build relationships with people that will last a lifetime.

You'll have people friending you on Facebook and sending you text messages and things because there will be a genuine connection that will happen over that 10 or 11 days that you spend with them.

So, how many of you are seasoned, meaning you've been on 1 or more mission trips?

Oh my, okay, so I'm preaching to the choir, amen?

There's a few that didn't raise their hands.

So anyway, I just want to know from the crowd, what was the nature?

Were these Maranatha mission trips or self-appointed mission trips?

How many were like a church group or a private setup?

When you went on the private setup, what was your emphasis?

Okay, so another health ministry type deal.

Wow, so a major evangelism blanket of meetings.

So we have a lot of folks that have been involved in health evangelism and health ministry.

That's good because 1 of the components of Quiet Hour ministry is doing just that.

Now, we're not going to be doing surgery, sorry, but our focus, what we like to do, is this is more of connecting.

This is going to be your health fair style thing, like what you would do in your church, in your community, to build relationships with the people there so that you can invite them to the meetings.

And we're going to provide some tangible things.

We're going to be giving eyeglasses away to the people.

And I'll tell you, in these countries, these people go nuts over these eyeglasses because this is something that is not easily attainable.

We can go to the dollar store and buy reading glasses for a couple dollars and they'll suffice.

There in these countries, they're just not that affordable nor that available.

So this is a really great effort, and we're going to be in some pretty poor areas serving.

I don't want to get ahead of myself in this, but like I said, we'll be referencing this card, so those who are just trickling in, come on in and join us and grab 1 of these cards Pastor Wes has as we're talking about.

Now I have several pictures in this slideshow.

As a matter of fact, 99% of them are pictures because I want to show you the areas and talk to you about what's happening there and I'm going to open the floor for some dialogue toward the end so you can ask me specific questions and I'm going to give you details and elaborate a little more on what you see here.

So the mission trip is going to be held in Guaquillas, that's the way they pronounce it, Guaquillas, The double L is a Y sound.

This is on the very southern border of Ecuador, northern border of Peru.

Now I flew in to the city where there are 2 mission conferences there in Ecuador.

So I flew into the city where the conference is located, and that is Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Matter of fact, when I got off the airplane, I looked and I was like, well, am I in Miami?
