Trials and Tribulations

Our Father in heaven, we thank you for this afternoon.

We thank you for every soul gathered here this evening.

We pray that you please be here with us, that you please forgive us of our sins, and please help us to overcome, to be overcomers just as Jesus overcame sin, just as Jesus overcame his persecutors.

Lord, help us to be more like you and help us to be men and women after your own heart.

This is all about trials and tribulations, how to overcome in your life.

We will attempt to answer these important questions.

What kinds of people experience hardships in life?

And finally, what are the results of utilizing Bible principles for managing crisis situations.

This is what we're going to go through and this is what we're going to find out this afternoon.

The world's maxim is simply this, ordo ab cao, or order out of chaos.

Those in the world sometimes have this philosophy that sometimes order can come out of chaos.

Our lives can sometimes be like this, full of clutter and mess.

But there will be changes in our life and a cleaning up in our life if we give heed to the Word of God.

The Bible tells us, this is the Christians maxim, David he went through trials and persecutions in his life.

The psalmist said in Psalm 119 verse 133, order my steps in thy word and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.

He said in Psalm 119 verse 9, Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way, by taking heed thereto according to thy word.

Again the psalmist writes, plead my cause and deliver me, quicken me according to thy word.

The Christians maxim is the Bible, Bible alone.

For every answer that we need in life, for every issue that we have, the Bible has an answer.

We're going to go through 3 case studies, some character studies.

We're going to look at Job, Jacob, and Jesus Christ.

When we look at Job, we see that there was a man who had all and he nearly lost it all.

He dealt with tragedy, Jacob, sin and suffering, the role of doubt and the role of repentance in the life, and Jesus Christ.

He was perfect, yet He was beset with trials, temptations, and trouble.

And we're going to see how He met trials.

There's going to be 12 principles we're going to look at in Jesus' life.

So let's look at Job in the Old Testament.

We read in Job chapter 1 and verse 1, There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job, and that man was perfect and upright, and 1 that feared God and eschewed evil.

And we're going to find out what happened to Job, to this perfect and upright man, a 1 who feared God.

Verse 2, And there were born unto him 7 sons and 3 daughters.

His substance also was 7000 sheep and 3000 camels.

And his sons went and feasted in their houses every 1 his day and sent and called for their 3 sisters to eat and to drink with them.

And it was so when the days of their feasting were gone about, verse 5, that Job sent and sanctified them and rose up early in the morning and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all.

For Job said, it may be that my sons have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.

Thus did Job continually." So what kind of man was Job?

He looked out for other people's interests, even his own family.

We could say he cared for other people, didn't he?

So he was perfect, he was upright, he was 1 that feared God, he was also 1 that cared a lot.

Verse 13, and there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house.

And there came a messenger unto Job and said the oxen were plowing and the asses feeding beside them.

Verse 15 And the Sabians fell upon them, and took them away.

Yea, says the messenger, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword, and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

You see, the servant, he says, the fire of God has fallen from heaven and has burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them.

This is what happened to Job and his stuff.

Verse 17, while this messenger was yet speaking, There came also another and said, The Chaldeans made out 3 bands, and it fell upon the camels and have carried them away.

Yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword, and I only am escaped alone to tell thee." We skip down to verse 19.

"'And behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness and smote the 4 corners of the house.

And it fell upon the young men and they are dead and I only am escaped alone to tell thee." So when we look at the red words here on the slide, Job had sons and daughters, he had a family, He also had a wife.

They fell upon him, took him away, killed his servants.

Have any of you had any hard times in your business?

And then we read something tragic in verse 19 that what he lost, he lost his children.

So you could say he lost his business, he lost his children, and we keep on reading.

So we keep on reading why this happened, or what happened.

Job chapter 2 verse 7, So went Satan forth from the presence of the Lord, there was this great meeting and Satan was present.

And smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.

And then verse 9, to add extra wound to his injury, his wife says, Dost thou still retain thine integrity?
