Mercy and Truth are Met Together

Father in heaven, we are before you at such an early hour.

For some this is not an early hour and for some this is a very early hour.

But Father we want to calibrate our minds and our hearts towards you, towards spiritual things, towards heaven.

And that, Lord, we can't do by ourselves.

So Father, we ask for grace to cover, to pardon, to forgive.

And Lord, we ask for grace to empower, to change, and to sanctify.

Bless the speaker, bless those who are in hearing of this message, bless the recordings, the technology.

We pray that you be glorified in you and we pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

In 2012, March 9, researchers from the University of Glasgow observed 4 groups of solar flare loops that contracted rapidly during a flare.

The loops had a staggered start to their collapse, showing delays of 60 to 80 seconds from the inner to the outer loops.

This event, which was recorded on video by the way, is a great example of quote simultaneous implosion and explosion.

Energy is transferred from the magnetic field to power the flare, leaving a pocket of reduced magnetic support that causes an implosion.

The staggering between the loop contractions is caused by the time delay needed for the information about the loss of support to travel outwards.

The loop contractions are triggered at the same time as the flare begins, emitting intense X-rays and microwaves.

3 outer loops show clear oscillations even as they contract with distinct periods and phases.

After being compressed by the collapsing loops, the flaring loops oscillate until they find a new equilibrium as indicated by the X-ray emission from the hot plasma.

During the contraction, a wave blast revealed by the extreme ultraviolet radiation spreads away from the source of the flare.

I do not understand anything I just read.

All I know is that they recorded something bright in the sky.

But it was a phenomenon where as something was exploding, it was also imploding simultaneously recorded on video This was found on the surface of the Sun and as the word says implosion something going in explosion something going out is happening at the same time, and you don't find this phenomenon commonly throughout nature.

The greatest simultaneous explosion-implosion in the universe, I submit to you this morning, is found not on the surface of the Sun but in Psalms chapter 85.

So if you have your Bibles, not if, not if, this is GYC, amen?

You should have your Bibles if it's in print better, if it's in digital that's okay.

You are making the sermon way too long for some people.

Okay, that was just the introduction, you understand.

If you're still looking for it, hurry up.

Psalms is the- is the largest book in the Bible.

It should be after 84, if you're from some civilization with numerical digits.

Quickly, quickly, quickly, quickly, quickly.

The Bible says, the Bible says, Lord, Thou hast been favorable unto Thy land, Thou hast brought back the captivity of Jacob.

You have forgiven the iniquity of Thy people, You have covered all their sins, sayeth Allah.

Thou hast turned thyself from the fierceness of thine anger." Verse 4.

Now, verses 1 through 3 is on the past tense.

Now we see a transition into the present tense, and it is now a prayer request.

"'Turn us, O God, of our salvation, and cause your anger toward us to cease.

Verse 5, wilt thou be angry with us forever?

Wilt thou draw out thy anger to all generations?

Wilt thou not revive us again that thy people may rejoice in thee?

Verse 7, Show us thy mercy, O Lord, grant us thy salvation.

1 key to Bible study is to look for words or for meanings of repetition in a particular passage.

You can do that, and these words are not the words of and, and the, and thy, but conceptual words.

And the word that's repeated here, the word that is repeated here in this passage in verse 3, verse 3, 4, 5, and 6.

Verse 3, the Bible says, Thou hast taken away all thy wrath, thine anger.

What is the phrase or the concept that's being repeated over and over again?

And this is concept of anger This passage is talking about the anger of God the wrath of God and before you freak out before you freak out These are verses and this is a concept that many people don't like to talk about, and you don't hear this kind of preaching anymore.

Or if you hear this kind of preaching, it's kind of in this weird Baptist sense that God is holding us above the hellfire, that it is His mercy that's about He's angry with us.

Anger, in this sense, is not human anger, amen?

Now some of you, you know that intellectually, but we need to understand that when God is talking about anger, this is divine anger.

There is no illustration here on earth that is commensurate with the anger of God.

Your fathers do things that are illegal in North America, Yes?

Some of us, we have this concept of anger that we get from our parents.

Divine anger is a divine property of God, if you will.

And I don't like to say that in that sense, it makes it sound like we're studying an object and this is the property, but it is an attribute.

Some of you have had bad experiences with people, bad experiences with anger.

Maybe you have an anger problem yourself.

This word anger or word for wrath, another word for it is justice.

And so every time you see the wrath of God, the anger of God, you can take that word out and replace it with justice or just or righteousness.

Testimony: Woman on a Mission

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you Lord for this opportunity to spend time together with you.

We ask, O Lord, for forgiveness of our sin, especially my sin, Lord.

You know what I have done against you, what I have done wrong to others, and I ask that you will hide me behind the cross.

Thank you, Father, for the forgiveness that you give and the reconciliation we can have with each other.

And Lord, as we open your word this morning, I pray for eyes from the Holy Spirit that you will help us to see your truth.

Thank you, Father, for answering this prayer.

As mentioned by sister, she said that I graduated from a Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences.

And my father, he actually also has some science background too.

He has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering, a Master's of science in explosives engineering, and a PhD in nuclear engineering.

My mother, who sat just there, she graduated with a bachelor of science in chemistry.

So science and the love for discovering more about the world around us is in my blood.

1 of my favorite quotes from Sister White is the very last sentence from The Great Controversy.

And it says, from the minutest atom to the greatest world, all things animate and inanimate in their unshadowed beauty and perfect joy declare that God is love.

So I have some photos for you and I want you to say out loud the first thing that comes to mind.

Double helix I heard some of you are also science students.

What comes to mind when I see DNA is the immense amount of information, the sequence of adenosine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine, and all that coded in DNA.

It's amazing that God can use such a small structure to develop such a complex being such as humans and bananas.

The amount of patterns just behind making the structure of a snowflake.

I wish someone else would open it for me.

This is an adaptation from an article I read by the editor of Savisco Quarterly, Clifford Goldstein.

He wrote about a grapefruit, but I like pomegranate.

And when you open the pomegranate, you find the seed.

And when you open the seed, what's inside?

If you look inside the seed it's just white nothingness but you are all smart.

So if you take the seed and you plant it in dirt and you water it what happens to the seed?

No you have to wait And then these bulbous fruits form.

You have to open it up and you get the delicious, juicy pomegranate.

And this is cycling through my mind when I look at a photo of a pomegranate.

How amazing is God that the cycle from seed to fruit is right there before us.

What comes to my mind is how does the tree bring up the water from the ground all the way to the top.

Another thing that comes to mind is where did the tree come from?

It's so small, but the mustard tree is so big.

Now if you think about it, surely there's not a big hole in the ground that all of the mass from the soil became a tree, right?

But the tree's mass actually comes from carbon dioxide.

And the last photo we have is of Earth and the outer space, what comes to mind.

I think of how these giant spherical bodies are orbiting the universe or our solar system.

He has provided these natural laws and all of nature abides by these natural laws.

God created us, so what law do we abide by?

What's the theme actually for GYC Canada?

So when I first saw the theme for this convention, law and love combined, I did what any sensible person would do and I looked up the words law and love in my Bible and some of the verses that came up were from Psalm 119 verses 97, 113, 163 and 165.

Oh how love I thy law, it is my meditation all the day.

I hate vain thoughts, but thy law do I love.

I hate abhor lying, But thy law do I love.

I hate abhor lying, but thy law do I love.

Great peace have they which love thy law, and nothing shall offend them.

Another translation reads, nothing shall cause them to stumble.

So as I look through these verses, I'm trying to think of someone in the Bible who stumbled because in my personal testimony, I stumble as well.

How many of us stumble in our walk with the Lord?

So let's find someone in the book of Matthew chapter 26.

We'll look at an individual who stumbles as well.

You can Open your Bible to Matthew chapter 26.

I will have them on the screen with some highlighted words just to jump out at you.

Then saith Jesus unto them, all ye shall be offended because of me this night.

For it is written, I will smite the shepherd and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.

The Story of Redemption: The Love and the Law Combined

I hope that you have come to this conference with a very special mindset.

I know for some of us, maybe you're like me, you've been to a lot of events.

You've attended a lot of revival meetings.

Listen to messages on YouTube or AudioVerse or whatever platforms you choose.

You have copies of sermons downloaded on your phone, CDs in your car.

But there's something different when the people of God decide to get together to seek God.

And that difference starts in the mindset of those who attend.

There's a reason why there are not thousands of people here right now, because it's not their mindset.

Their desire is not to be ready for the coming of Jesus their concern is not to make sure that they are firmly grounded in who God is and his purpose for their lives.

And so if you're going to come to this place, you need to be 100% here.

And not only 100% here, 100% committed to obtaining whatever God has in store for you this weekend.

But it's interesting, if a sermon is boring, people will complain.

But if the sermon is fire, they don't want to surrender and come up for the appeal.

If the message is average, we go home and talk about it at potluck.

But if the message is radical, it's for someone else.

So my challenge to you, as I challenge myself, speaking at every single event that I have the privilege unworthy though I be My prayer to God is that God would change me.

How can you come into the presence of an almighty God and leave the scene?

Then you haven't been in the presence of God.

There were many people touching Jesus when the woman with the issue of blood touched the hem of his garment.

Many people were touching Jesus but not all were coming with the touch of faith.

Not all believed that in this small little band of youth and young adults, here in Ottawa, that the God of the universe would show up and that he would do something special for those reaching out after him in faith.

I don't know what you need from God, but you know.

You know where you are spiritually you know what lays before you when you leave this place it's nice to be around fellow believers who are on fire for God, but not all of us come from churches like that.

We know what's waiting for us on the other side of Sunday.

A church where everybody is not so committed to spreading the gospel.

Some asking that you would be praying in your mind.

God, don't make this a regularly scheduled program.

Now, the 1 other thing I have to ask you is this.

How many of you, honestly from your hearts, You say, Lord, I need to take my spiritual life higher.

So now that our hands are up, we know what we're praying for, right?

We say, I need to take my spiritual life higher.

So now you know what to pray for, for me tonight, even as I'm speaking.

Now you know what to pray for every other speaker every other seminar every other activity that's going to happen this weekend Lord put something in that man or woman's mouth to take me to the next level with Jesus.

I know amen is not a black word, you know, it's not even an American word.

Because when sin is done, I know I'm going to say amen.

You could have paid, you could have been average for free.

You could have been lukewarm for cheaper watch this live stream online it's true why pay and come and go home to sing so if that's not the case brothers and sisters we got to come with the cupboards of our hearts wide open for whatever God wants to put in the pantry.

We got to come with a willingness to say yes, Lord, when he's calling us to a radical form of surrender.

In some part of our lives that we've struggled to let go.

So allow me to open with those remarks from my heart.

I've been attending GYC conferences for 17 years.

I may be dating myself, because some of you are probably 17 or less.

But it's also unfortunate, because when I was your age, I didn't think I would be able to say that.

And maybe heaven knew that we needed you, this generation, these youth, at this time.

Father in heaven, our time is short, but we are thankful for any moment in the presence of our Maker.

We have not come to hear the words of a man, But we have come to hear the Word of God.

Our desire, as we raised our hands to heaven, is that we want to take our spiritual lives higher.

To just be almost persuaded but not fully.

But Lord we didn't come to GYC Canada for an easy experience.

We've come for revival and for a deeper experience with our precious Lord.

So Lord we pray that the sweet sweet Spirit of Christ would abide upon this place.

May He speak through me and may He speak to me that Jesus may be seen is our prayer in his name.

In Plato's master work, The Republic, Glaucon, who in real life is actually Plato's older brother, he tells the story of a man who found a ring that could make its wearer invisible.

His name was Gyges and he was a shepherd.

Now after an earthquake, Gyges ventured into a chasm deep into the earth where he found the corpse of a giant who was wearing nothing but a single golden ring.

Gyges snatched the ring And he returned to the flock.

Now as soon as Gyges realized, as he played with the ring, the ring's power, he arranged to become 1 of the messengers sent to report to the king.

On arriving there, he seduced the king's wife.

And then he attacked the king with her help, killed him, and in this way, took over the entire kingdom.

Glaucon finishes his story by saying, I believe that everyone, when it comes down to it, would behave like Gyges.

Everyone, no matter how apparently good, no matter how seemingly just, would ultimately succumb to the temptations of the ring.

The story raises questions about the dark side of humanity.

You see, what if a person knew for certain, you see right now we may say, well, invisibility ain't gonna work, we got DNA evidence now.

So what if you knew for certain that you could get away with anything and face no consequences?

Is there anything that you would do that you might call evil.

And even if you wouldn't do it, would you even contemplate the idea?

Would you flirt with the idea of what you would do with the ability to be invisible?

It speaks to the fact that in each and every 1 of us, there is a dark side.

The Joy of the Cross

Our great God, our dear, loving, heavenly Father, Lord, we give you praise and we give you thanks, for you are worthy of our praise and our thanksgiving.

And, Lord, you are also worthy of our trust.

Father, today, may we see a clearer picture of you, of who you are and what you can do in our lives.

Father, I pray that you please speak to our hearts, and may you pour upon us a full measure of your Spirit.

Lord, I ask that you please hide me behind the shadow of your cross, that I may not be seen or be heard, and even a desire to be seen or to be heard, Lord, please take that away.

That Jesus and Jesus alone be seen, be heard, be lifted up, and exalted.

This Lord we pray and we ask in the loving name of your Son Jesus all your children say, amen.

The Lord gave me the privilege to be a missionary for the past 8 years and 10 months.

And God has been so good because he has led me through each and every trip and he somehow compelled me to rely fully upon him.

No salary, no stipend, only depending on him.
