Triumphant?

Truth is marching, and truth will triumph.

And as we prepare to leave here today, each 1 of us is already deciding and will continue to decide to decide if we will be marching with the truth.

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.

And we need to continue marching with the truth.

I appreciated the question, 1 of the questions last night about the, you know, this idea of we come to family retreat And then we get inspired, we get energized, invigorated for a few days, for a few weeks, for a few months.

We need not be discouraged if this happens, but it doesn't have to happen, right?

And sometimes we find ourselves only looking at where we're not measuring up.

And we need to be encouraged sometimes just as we need to encourage 1 another in our marriage and 1 another as parents to children.

We need to look at how God is advancing us as we are marching with the truth.

Not to give up, and you've heard us say this before, but to get up.

The reason I like to say that is because we remind each other of that ourselves, to not give up, because do you think we ever feel like giving up?

But I'll tell you sometimes the pressures that circumstances and the devil and self bring upon us at certain moments can make any of us feel like we're just not going to get to the finish line.

But You know, 1 of the other comforting things that comes to my mind is that as we come closer to Christ, as we seek to walk in the way, those pressures do increase and we do become more sensitive to our defects.

We become more sensitive to our failures.

We become more sensitive to the areas that need to be strengthened.

So that can also be viewed not in a negative, discouraging way, but in a positive way.

So our theme text this year was 2 Corinthians 2.14.

We should be giving God thanks for what he has done, what he is doing, what we know by faith he will continue to do because he's promised it first of all and the track record he's led us through up until this point is proved it right?

So we want to be thankful to God and notice the other words, which always, that's an absolute word isn't it, always causes us to triumph in Christ.

So if we are not triumphing in Christ, the always there is not because God's not doing his part, it's because we have chosen to try to self-manage.

We're gonna do it on our own, we're gonna handle this situation, I can, I don't need anybody else and I don't need you God?

We don't say that, but that's what we do when we make those decisions.

So if we find ourselves tripping up, we know it's because we are not really being connected with God in the process, and that he can help us to always cause us to triumph in Christ.

And I like that word always, because it gives us all hope.

It shouldn't be something to discourage us, it should be something that gives us hope.

He will always cause us to triumph in Christ Jesus.

And Soon we're going to see what that triumph really looks like when He comes in His glory.

Well I know that if we're alive to see it, and that is our blessed hope, that we will see an increase of pressure coming upon us.

And does God want you to triumph with the truth?

Will we allow the truth to triumph in us?

We will be continuing to make those choices daily.

And we want to just just share very briefly with you.

And I'm not sure how it got actually put on the program, but we had a question mark and then a bunch of explanation points.

1 gives 1 message, the other gives the other message, right?

We want to be positive that we can be triumphant in Christ.

And the truth is always very clear, isn't it?

Christ is the truth, his word is the truth, and this is what we need to be studying and walking in and following, because if we don't, by default, we're going to find ourselves into areas that we may have thought was the truth but really isn't.

So over the last year, we on many of, and we talk about walking and talking together.

It is 1 of our favorite things to do, and it's also 1 of our favorite times to have very meaningful communication.

Now, I'm fortunate enough, I say I am, we are fortunate enough to be together a lot and we don't take that for granted.

It's nice to be together with somebody that you love being with, isn't it?

And I often thank the Lord that we have this privilege to not only live together as husband and wife, but to minister the gospel of Jesus Christ together.

I count it a great privilege and opportunity.

And so we have other lots of other times that we talk on airplanes and traveling in the car but during our walk and talk time partly because of the setting that we live in and it's very quiet.

It's the kind of place that our nearest neighbor is a mile away and so it's easy.

We can easily walk 6 or 7 miles and see no other human being or any other sign of civilization.

It's very quiet and so it's a nice opportunity because it's just the 2 of us walking.

We don't have all the emails we need to deal with and all the things at home that are always there.

And so we end up talking about things like what we're talking about here, so that the messages that we share are messages that are coming out of the things we are also dealing with.

And 1 of the things that That I shared with my wife And I wasn't sure exactly how she would take this Even though we're together all the time is I feel like I need a deepening rekindled first love with Jesus my Lord.

Because sometimes what can happen is we can become so involved in all the things that we're doing and many of them I hope and most all of them are very, at least for our lives, are very much connected to the work of the Lord.

We come to a retreat like this, and this happens to be the largest retreat because it's the National Family Retreat.

We come here knowing that from the time we get up until we go to bed we're going to be very engaged in why we're here.

And I can say with a wholehearted honesty that we love what we do.

And we know that we're going to be very happy tired.

That's a term that we coined years ago, where our brains are almost flat lined, okay?

And we're very, very tired, but we're very happy tired.

But in spite of all that blessing and all that good work, I still have a relationship with Christ that needs to be deepened and I want the driving force of my experience to be motivated there with Christ.

And I hope that you want more of that, because I believe boiling it all down, boiling the whole Word of God and the whole plan of salvation down is that if we are not in a relationship with Jesus Christ that is intimate and deep, that is motivating us deep within our souls, we probably won't be in the kingdom of heaven.

It won't be because, well you missed this 1 buddy and you should have checked that off your list and you got 9 out of 10 of them, it isn't going to be based on that.

It's going to be based on this deep love connection and I need that to go deeper.

And sometimes it's the love that I have for my wife that actually makes me realize that my love for my God needs to go deeper.

It's occurred a few times, but recently much more, much more deep and much more intentional, much clearer, and it's the need we all have, and it's good to step back and contemplate our need, isn't it?

And it's good to look back and see what Christ has done for us and ask God to fill us with a love in our heart for him and an appreciation for what he has done for us.

But we began this retreat with the question Are we in the truth?

Do we have a relationship with the truth?

And we looked at many different areas of trending, but probably the more important areas of trending are those that come very close to our hearts in how we like to justify ourselves.
