Entrepreneurship: Why & How?

Heavenly Father, we just thank you for the day, for waking us and keeping us, for the messages we've heard.

I pray that you would be with us now, that your spirit would guide and direct my words, that they be your words and not mine.

That as we contemplate the parables that you've put forth and What those parables mean and how they apply to us today that you would teach us that we would have an open mind a mind That you could Speak to us That we might hear your voice that we would walk with you But we not just be hearers of these things, but that we would be doers.

It's easy to have a lot of knowledge, to learn a lot of things, but If we don't put them into action, then it is for naught.

So Lord, I pray that You would help us to not just be hearers, but doers.

God, indirect us according to Your will and purposes, I pray in Jesus' name, and for His sake we pray, Amen.

So this is kind of a very common quote you may hear if you ever hear people speak on education.

It says, Our idea of education take too narrow and too low a range.

There is need of a broader scope, a higher aim.

True education means more than the pursual of a certain course of study.

It means more than the preparation for the life that now is.

It has to do with the whole being, with the whole period of existence possible to man.

It is the harmonious development of the physical, the mental, and the spiritual powers.

It prepares the student for the joy of service in this world and for the higher joy of wider service in the world to come." So when we talk about education we're not talking about something that's to help you get a career, Not that it wouldn't help you get a career, but education is about personal development.

It's about preparing us to be fit, not just for the service here, for the service here, but not just for the service here.

It's to prepare us for our heavenly kingdom and do service there, which is an amazing thought that we will be doing service in heaven.

And this is kind of our preparatory work.

So that's a really, to me, a wonderful thought.

And honestly, I think that it's a parable in and of itself.

If we were to pause and think about what education is doing, the purpose of education, it's a parable.

We're learning and we're growing to come into that place to learn what heaven is about so that we are prepared to do the work that heaven is going to be about.

Education page 30 says this, in the highest sense the work of education and the work of redemption are 1.

When we go to school, college, undergraduate, elementary, Do we realize that we're working redemption out?

I don't think we think about that too often and how profound education is.

It's shaping and molding our minds how we think, how we view the world, how we reason.

Do we see Christ in it or is it a means to an ends?

So I took this quote, there's a little book by E.A.

Sutherland, Studies in Christian Education.

And this quote, she takes 2 Ellen White quotes, and what I want to do is read these, how he framed it, and then I want to look at these 2 quotes for a few minutes and kind of see what the context of these 2 quotes were and how he framed them.

It said, now, as never before, we need to understand the true science of education.

If we fail to understand this, we shall never have a place in the kingdom of God." That was a powerful thought.

And that's from Christian Educator, August 1, 1897.

And he goes on to tie it to this quote from 6T, page 131.

It says, The science of true education is the truth, and the third angel's message is truth.

Have we fully digested, have we fully taken in what it is we're doing when we go and get an education, when we send our children to get an education, when we ourselves are raising our children with education, we're educating them to what ends, for what purposes, how are we doing it.

Bob Jorgensen used to have a class and he says, are we doing, how do you say it?

Public school at home when we do homeschooling.

Are we just taking the world's models and adopting them to what we're doing?

Or do we fully, do we really understand what it is we're about, what we're doing when we do education?

I think this process of education is the parable.

Because it's the life lived, what we live in front of our children, in front of our friends' children, our nephews, our nieces, our neighbors.

Do we believe the counsel enough that we actually apply it in our lives and not just intellectually know it?

So, this is gonna be the Christian Educator, pages 8 and 9.

So we're gonna go back and look at what Sutherland quoted from.

And where it's red, that's where he quoted.

So that you can kind of follow what the quote is talking about and where it's placed in the quote.

Where it's underlined, that's me highlighting things.

In this age as never before when the 2 great forces of the principles of heaven and the principles of hell have met and decided conflict our youth need instruction in Bible principles.

Now let me ask you a question, how old is a youth?

So, when this talks about, often times we frame it, and I ask the question because I want you to reframe what's being said.

We often put this in the light of young children or teenagers, college age.

But I think we really need to be taking this to heart of what this is going to do for me and you.

Because where is it going to start if we're going to train them, Where do we need to start?

Our youth need instruction in Bible principles.

Like the branches of the true vine, the Word of God presents unity in diversity.

There is in it a perfect superhuman mysterious unity.

It contains divine wisdom and that is the foundation of all true education.

But this book has been treated indifferently.

That would be to treat it as a doorstop, or a good luck charm on our bookshelf, or something of that nature.

I think this can be a fundamental problem.

If we have a Greek education and you know whatever that means we can all decide for ourselves to some extent what that means, but if we have been taught how to think From a worldly standpoint, do you think when we come to the Scriptures all of a sudden we have a heavenly perspective?

And so we may need to re-approach how we read Scripture even.

Because I think all of us have been subjected to this in all kinds of different ways to the extent that maybe we even just got that kind of education and that's how we think.

Now as never before we need to understand the true science of education.

If we fail to understand this, we shall never have a place in the kingdom of God.

This is life eternal, that they might know thee, the only true God in Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent.

If this is the price of heaven, shall not our education be conducted on these lines?

Christ must be everything to us." Do we fully digest these things?

Now listen to this top line here, underlined and bold, right?

This is the great subject that underlies all true sanctified education.

So we're going to look at parables, and a lot of the parables are obviously Christ parables.

But you know the parables go far more than that.

When Isaiah is talking to us, and he's telling us about a virgin birth.

Do we understand what he's talking about?

Strange Slips: The Parable of the Plant

Heavenly Father, we thank you that you are in control of all of these things.

All the things that are happening in the world, you knew from the beginning what was coming.

So Lord, as we look at some of these things that can be a little intimidating or frightful, I pray that you would help us to realize that you have all these things in your hand and you are in control.

That we can trust you and you have ways and which means by which we can be safe.

And so help us to keep our mind fixed upon these things that you have given us a health message, You have given us tools and resources by which to have a clear mind, that our physical bodies can be healed, that you've made us fearfully and wonderfully.

And so Lord, help us to realize that in spite of some of the information and some of the things that people choose to do in this world around us, that we can still choose to serve you, and that in this service you have made a way of escape from the things that are going on in this world.

Though we may suffer them, we can still find joy.

So we thank you for it in Jesus' name, and for his sake we pray, Amen.

All right, so this is titled, Strange Slips.

You will never, ever sow a seed that's broccoli and get an onion.

Because thou hast forgotten thy God of thy salvation, sorry, because thou hast forgotten the God of thy salvation, and has not been mindful of the rock of thy strength, therefore shalt thou plant pleasant plants, and shalt set it with strange slips.

In the day shalt thou make thy plant to grow, and in the morning shalt thou make thy seed to flourish, but the harvest shall be a heap in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow." There's a lot of stuff going on in this world, and if we're not careful, we will end up with a bad harvest.

And you know, it requires us to sacrifice.

Some of the things you will have to do are inconvenient, they're uncomfortable, and when you're eating somewhere and you Can't eat it.

If you think you've got a choice, herein is your error.

You don't have a choice, but you have to be loving.

You have to be gracious, and you have to have a reason for the faith that is in you.

So when you go somewhere and someone's upset because, oh, you didn't eat the potluck or you didn't eat the whatever, you just say, it's nothing against you.

I have restrictions, dietary restrictions, they're personal restrictions, and if you would like to know about them, I'm happy to share with you.

But I, You know, we're all just trying to just be loving, explain, take time to work with people.

So most people may not know what a GMO is.

So GMO is a genetically modified organism.

Nobody ate any GMOs last week praise the Lord all right Genetic engineering is a key component in modern agricultural biotechnology.

The first genetic engineered plant, a tomato, was developed in 1982.

I mean, agriculture's been going on for how long?

By 1985, the USDA had approved 4 releases of GE, which is a misnomer.

If anyone has ever heard of a GE, do you know what GE stands for?

Engineering, engineers build bridges, right?

Because they're precise and they have science and math that tells you that it can support your weight.

It's guaranteed, you know it can do what it's supposed to do.

If you knew the bridge had about, there's gonna be about 10, 000 tries before the bridge probably will work right, would you drive over the bridge?

Okay, well, in GE, this so-called genetic engineering, it takes about 10, 000 tries to get it right.

So it's a far cry from engineering in my mind, but sometimes it's called GE, genetic engineering.

So these, the GE organisms for field testing that was 1985.

Commercial use of GE crops began in 1996.

So again, since these have been on the market, how many people here were born before 1996?

So this looks pretty Interesting, doesn't it?

Does anybody know how there's there's several ways genetically modified genetic modification can happen does anybody know how any of those ways?

It's about 2 people in the crowd know how GMO is made well the first thing you have to do is you have to identify What you want to do and By what you want to do.

I mean for instance if you wanted to make a plant resistant to an herb a Herb an herb a weed First you would have to have something that wouldn't kill that weed, but would kill most other, like for instance, broadleaf plants.

And so then you would isolate the gene in that plant that resisted being killed, and you would extract that gene, and you would insert that gene into your plant of choice.

Then you could take that herbicide and you could spray that plant and that gene is now in that plant that resists that herbicide, just like whatever other plant you found that had that resistance.

Okay, so it sounds like you would be very precise and you would know just in the DNA strand where you wanted to you would extract that 1 and you would precisely place it into the DNA strand of the other 1 and you It would be very because we know We've mapped the genome.

Baking Bread the Old-Fashioned Way

We've been baking at the farmer's market.

We've been baking at the farmer's market for about 4 years.

I have been baking bread with just regular commercial yeast for about 20 years or so.

But I will tell you that there is never a time when you feel that you got it.

We're still learning I'm right here with you learning still I just learned a new thing that to bake the bread with especially with a The old-fashioned way with 11 you have to use distilled water if you live in the city Because I was visiting and we were using the starter, and it's not working very well with just Chlorinated water because the chlorine has something to do with bacteria, so I'll you will hear more about the starter itself But we will start With a bread of life because God is our bread of life.

And there are lots of things going on about bread, that we should not be eating bread.

If Jesus would think it's not edible he would let us know he would not call himself the bread of life next please I'll have to ask next so leaven in the Bible I'm sure you read this verses before and the people who took the dough before it was leaven having their kneading bowls bound up on their clothes and their shoulders.

Jesus spoke parable unto them, the kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took and hid in 3 measures of meal till the whole was leavened.

Know you not that the little leaven leavens the whole lump.

So what kind of leaven are we talking about?

Did they have this leaven in biblical times?

I'm sure you say no of course they didn't so in Leaven bread in ancient Egypt in ancient Egypt.

I don't know where to go In ancient Egypt the word for bread was the same as the word for life.

Emmer wheat and barley are by far the most common grains of ancient Egypt, while other varieties of these species and some millet have been identified.

In the beginning, the simplest Egyptian bread was made from flour mixed with water and salt, patted into a flat circle with hands, laid on a hot rock next to the fire to cook, like tortilla bread, and nowadays, no leaven.

And it's believed that Egypt produced the first leavened bread, maybe by accident.

1 theory is that yeast landed on some dough left out, the gluten in the flour went to work and the bread puffed up.

A sourdough was employed for leavened bread, That's what people call it, sourdough bread.

And we will go over that a little bit more.

Remnants of a previous batch of dough was mixed with new dough and allowed to ferment or sour overnight.

And what is the difference between different types of East so we'll go into this it's very very important to understand because I am a 73 Adventist and I was when I just came to us my new mother-in-law said we're not supposed to eat sourdough bread.

And then when lots of talks started coming around about Levin or starter, questions start popping in my mind.

And I prayed for 4 months to the Lord to show me the truth.

And I was directed to search the history.

So this is very important for us to start with.

The Egyptians did not have East sealed and foil packs or jars nor did the pilgrims or settlers so we did the families through history get East the answer is simple from family from community they just Like I shared with lots of people, just give them a spoonful.

In the air you breathe, on the bark of trees, on leaves.

And Many times they start leaven with the wild filming.

They just put the whole grape actually in the jar with the flour and water.

So the same film can be found in juniper berries.

For centuries, both berries have been used as natural start for bread yeast.

Natural yeast is sometimes refers to sourdough, but with the right strain of yeast it doesn't have to be sour.

So this is the time when our pioneers lived and started writing the health message.

Until the 19th century, homemade yeast was the only kind there was.

In 1857, Louis Pasteur discovered that living organisms, yeast, were responsible for fermentation.

So in US compressed East cakes you can see that's how the very first commercial East was available compressed East flakes was introduced to the nation at Philadelphia's Centennial Exposition 1876.

So in US, people for the first time saw commercial yeast in 1876, which drew 10 million visitors.

When America entered World War II, yeast companies developed dry yeast for the military, which did not require refrigeration.

And then in 1984, rapid rise in yeast was invented in the US.

1980 also saw another trend, the beginning of continuous spike in celiac disease.

The reason why because the commercial yeast does not break down the gluten.

That's why there are lots of issues with gluten intolerance.

Gluten intolerance, acid reflux disease, diabetes and wheat allergies.

There is evidence that using natural yeast can help combat these problems.

The slow rising process of natural yeast has many critically important health benefits.

Natural yeast, which what I use as a natural yeast, slows digestion to help you feel full longer.

It making it natural and so you don't have to eat so much.

Friendly bacteria, which is lactobacillus, which you buy in a little, in a health food store, in the little capsules.

Neutralized phytic acids that Otherwise prevent minerals found in the grain from being absorbed properly and they also pre digest the gluten and that's the key That's why many people can't tolerate this bread when they cannot tolerate the commercial bread made with the commercial yeast And we in the farmers market we have Followers for 4 years now they even asked me to deliver bread in the winter because that's all they can eat They cannot eat bread that does not break down the gluten next please So this is a glycemic index of various breads and grain products And you can see that this is the sugar if this is a 10 grams of sugar in purple and just French baguette Look at it's almost well not double, but almost 40% higher Glycemic index versus just sugar white plain sugar and the sourdough bread is only 30 So it's much better for people who have diabetes and sugar problem And their blood next please Everybody took pictures, okay So this is a label of regular Wonder Bread, commercial bread.

And you can see, I'm sure probably not many people here eating that kind of bread.

Just wanted to point out it's not very good.

Now this is interesting because this is what you find sourdough bread this commercial.

This 1 is from the health food store and this is from like Walmart.

They call it sourdough bread but look at the ingredients.

There is no way you can find starter or leaven.

They go under different names of wild yeast.

They have yeast and vinegar side by side.

To produce that sour taste they put vinegar.

Now in the health food store this is what you find with organic ingredients again yeast, organic apple cider vinegar and there is no way on the label actual starter.

So okay so unfortunately this is a mislabel the whole idea of sourdough because really sourdough is just vinegar added to our bread but the bread is made with yeast.

So I'm not going to read for the sake of time because we will have demo.

White's resources but I'm sure you probably can just on your phones or computers find out all the resources.

The Lord impressed me that well everything that I read she never said sourdough bread she never said sourdough bread she always referred to sour bread heavy bread Every time you can find reference to this.

So this reference is about throwing, you probably remember reading it.

She threw hired girl made batch of sourdough and it was so heavy that she had to throw it to the swine and it says sour heavy bread will kill swine and so on we should not eat it next please now again there are several of Ellen White's writing and it says bread heavy sour partially baked next 1 poor heavy sour bread poor heavy and so on let's it they let the bread sour before baking and you know if you had it done before when you bake bread you leave it on the counter and ferments too long then it kind of has that sour taste a little bit.

Now this is very interesting this is nothing to do with Christian book it's just I found it online it's called the book of bread it was released in 1886 That's pretty much when our pioneers lived.

And this, Let me read this because this is I think will open the eyes what was going on during that time.

So Owen Simmons, the book of bread 1886 analyzed various breads from bakeries across the whole of England, Scotland and Wales.

A bread made with 8 ounces of malt extract and 8 ounce of yeast, Simmons described as a miserable loaf to be guarded against, worse seen for a long time.

Another local baker's bread was likewise described as poor loaves, overworked, bad flavor, bad smell and cold oven largely contributed to and sponge to lawn.

Other loaves range from atrocious, sour, pasty, discolored.

Fortunately, elsewhere some were described as beautiful or excellent, but finding good bread at the end of 19th century was hit or miss.

Doesn't sound like what you're reading in the Spirit of Prophecy, it's the same thing.
