Science of Salvation, Session 1 (Part 1)

Father God in heaven we thank you so much for bringing us here this day and to study your word and especially the topic of the sanctuary and the message of the sanctuary father and we pray that you'll help us you'll lead us and guide us and open up our minds that we may understand a deep truth so thy word and that we may apply it to our lives and live according to your will.

Father, we look forward to the soon coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

And I pray that through this study will help us to be ready when you come again in your clouds of glory.

And we ask this all in Jesus' name, amen.

How many of you have ever had a time when your mother baked something sweet, like cookies or pie?

Now, she places that in the refrigerator and she says, don't touch it.

Now, suppose that your mom said, here's that pie, and I just made it, and I don't want you to touch it, right?

And then it goes on to say, she says, you're saying to yourself, it looks so good.

And your body is compelled to agree with you.

But then, you think you got it all figured out, and you're just about to make contact with that pie or those cookies, and all of a sudden you hear the footsteps behind you of your mother.

At that moment in time, do you want your mother there?

Sin is that drives us to the point that we do not want God there.

He came up with the sanctuary to solve the great problem of sin because ultimately God wants to be with us.

He wants to be in contact with us, to have a relationship with us face to face.

Sin separates us from having that face to face communion with God.

Now I have to tell you right from the beginning my intent is not to go over the sanctuary as far as the furniture and the symbolism.

And believe me, you need to do a study of that, but this class is not gonna be on that, and you will truly be blessed by studying the symbols of the sanctuary, because it is ultimately the illustrated plan of salvation.

But there's a message that God is bringing to us in the sanctuary that we need to understand.

And we're gonna be dealing particularly with the 2300 days in the investigative judgment.

And what we need to do to prepare for the second coming of Jesus when our prince stands up and the judgment complete, where will we be found and will we be ready?

So 1844 in the Great Advent Movement, It was a very, very interesting time.

And we find a quote in Great Controversy, page 488.

It says, the subject of the sanctuary, can everybody see?

The subject of the sanctuary and the investigative judgment should be clearly understood by the people of God.

All, what, need a knowledge for themselves of the position and work of their great high priest.

All need an understanding of this time period.

Otherwise, it will be impossible for them to exercise the faith which is essential at this time or to occupy the position which God designs them to fill.

Every individual has a soul to save or to lose and each has a case pending at the bar of God.

And we're going to be touching on this a lot more in this class.

Turn with me if you would to Revelation chapter 10.

Now I'm going to be dealing in a later session, Revelation 10 verses 1-9.

It says, and I took the little book out of the angel's hand and ate it up.

And as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.

There was no SDA church at this time in 1844.

There was a worldwide movement and the second coming of Jesus was based on Daniel 8.14.

That's what this movement in 1844 was about.

On the 2300 days shall the sanctuary be cleansed.

And they thought Jesus was coming in 1844.

And Councils for the Churches, page 347, says, the correct understanding of the menstruation in the heavenly sanctuary is the foundation of our faith.

Correctly understanding the ministry of the heavenly sanctuary.

And the book, Acts of the Apostles, page 14, it says, through the teachings of the sacrificial service, Christ was to be what?

Uplifted before all nations, and who would look to Him should live.

Christ was the foundation of the Jewish economy and the whole system of types and symbols was a compacted prophecy of the Gospel.

A presentation in which we're bound up to promises of redemption.

Jesus, throughout His entire ministry, if you read the Gospels and listen to the words that Jesus was saying, He was always, always trying to recall the people's minds to the sanctuary and to his mission.

As soon as he was baptized, what did he say?

He was referring to the time in the time prophecies in Daniel chapter 8 and chapter 9.

And when Peter asked Jesus, Lord, how many times should I forgive my brother?

Now, how many of you are mathematicians here?

He was referring to the 490 years of probation that was given to the Jewish nation.

He was always trying to recall their minds to this time period.

In Great Controversy, page 423, it says, the subject of the sanctuary was the what?

Was the key which unlocked the mystery of the disappointment of 1844.

They were, these people were studying their Bibles.

They misunderstood some of the applications to it, but when they realized and understood about the sanctuary, it all came clear.

It says, it opened to view a complete system of truth.

This is very, very important to understand because as Seventh-day Adventists, our message is based upon the sanctuary.

And our message is a complete system of truth.

It goes on to say, and connected and harmonious showing that God's hand had directed the great Advent movement and revealing present duty as brought to light to position and work of his people.

It was also not only revealing the complete system of truth, but it was revealing the work and position of his people.

Friends, we are his people and we have a very distinct message that we need to carry to the world and we're going to touch on that later as well.

So what is this work and investigation for us today?

Father God in heaven as we begin to investigate this topic of what's so important about the investigative judgment may you be with us Lord that you will lead and guide us that we may have a better understanding of this very very important topic and that our hearts and our minds and our faith may be set upon the rock of our salvation for there is no other name given under heaven among men whereby we can be saved but that of Christ Jesus and through his work that he is doing in the heavenly sanctuary We ask now that you will be with us.

And we pray this all in Jesus' name, amen.

How many of you remember the trial of Saddam Hussein?

This was like the biggest trial of the age, and I only see 1 person that's heard of this thing.

It was 1 of the most powerful world leaders who was tried.

And the scene has become so familiar to those of us that lived in North America.

Unrest in the Middle East, terrorist bombings, people who were connected with the case, mysteriously disappearing, and tension in the courtroom.

The world was focusing its attention on these arguments and the nation was gripped and enormed by what was going on.

The news, we had, there was the news from the media, there was the cameras taking the cap, captivating scenes that made us in the U.S.

And when the final judgment was given, Saddam Hussein's future was sealed on this earth.

And this was the trial of this young century.

1 of the greatest trials of this young century.

And it has gripped the minds of millions of people.

But today, today I want you to lift your eyes from earth, not to the trial of the century, but to the drama of the ages.

Lift your eyes from the earthly courtroom to the heavenly 1, and to the books of Daniel and Revelation.

Over the years I've been in ministry I've heard a lot of people's ideas about the judgment.

Some of them said well 1844 was so long ago what does it have to do with us?

And Some have even said it doesn't matter, does it?

You may have heard a question before about, what does the investigative judgment have to do with me, do with the gospel?

Or what has this gospel of grace alone, through faith alone, through Jesus Christ alone, have to do with anything?

Where does the investigative judgment fit?

Well, you guys got to get out and start doing more Bible studies.

I'm telling you, because there's, people are asking these questions.

Some of you will say, well, Jesus did it all at the cross and it's finished, right?

You know, I was doing a study with someone 1 day and we're going over the 2300 days in the investigative judgment And they asked me, why would God need 160 years to judge someone?

Then they would ask, what has Jesus been doing since 1844?

Where are we going to be covering this in the next 2 sessions to find out what exactly and where exactly Jesus has been since 1844.

It says that, I saw the quick work that God was doing on the earth would soon be cut short in righteousness and the message must speed swiftly on their way to search out the scattered flock.

You can't be a messenger without a message.

And we have a message, a very, very important message.

There are many precious truths contained in the word of God, but it is present truth that the flock needs now.

And I have seen the danger of the messengers running off from the important points of present truth to dwell upon subjects that are not calculated to unite the flock and sanctify the soul.

Satan will here take every possible advantage to injure the cause.

When you start getting yourself tied up in all these offshoot ideas, you're taking away from the message of the present truth that needs to be presented for this time and for this age.

It continues to say, but such subjects as the sanctuary, in connection with the 2300 days, the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus are perfectly calculated to explain the past Advent movement and show what our present position is, establish the faith of the doubting and give certainty to the glorious future.

These I have frequently seen were the principal subjects on which the messengers should dwell.

What was she saying we should be dwelling upon?

The sanctuary and the 2300 days connected with the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

And these are the things that we need to find out.

You know, we dwell a lot about the commandments of God and not about the 2300 days.

So often, even in our evangelistic series, We don't dwell enough on the 2300 days, any investigative judgment.

And these are the very subjects that we need to be dwelling upon today.

In Great Controversy page 488, we covered this in the last class, the last session.

All, all need a knowledge for themselves of the position and work of their great high priest.

That's why it's so important for us to understand these topics.

Great controversy continues, says every individual has a soul to save or lose, and each has a case pending at the judgment bar of God.

Each 1 of us has a soul pending at the judgment bar of God.

In the letter number 28, 1906, the correct understanding of the ministry ministration in the heavenly sanctuary is the foundation of our faith.

The correct understanding of what Christ is doing for us in the heavenly sanctuary.

So this preadvent judgment we find in Revelation 14.6.

Instead of me just commenting on it, let's read it.

I saw another angel in the midst of heaven having the everlasting gospel, the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, to every nation, kindred, and tongue, and people.

It's a worldwide message, saying with a loud voice, the loud voice signifying urgency, With a loud voice, for the hour of his judgment is coming in 2012.

And worship Him that made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and the fountains of waters." The second angel message follows in consequence of the first angel's message and the third because of the second.

The first angel's message in Revelation 14, 6 and 7 is based upon Daniel 8, verse 14.

The book of Daniel is a prophecy and Revelation is an opening up of that prophecy.

In our next session we're going to get very, very, very involved in this.

The scripture which above all others has been both the foundation and central pillar of the advent faith was the Declaration.

On to 2300, 2300 days then shall the sanctuary be cleansed." All right, these have been familiar words to all believers in the Lord's soon coming And by the lips of thousands was this prophecy being repeated as the watchword of their faith." It goes on to say in Great Controversy page 410, these prophetic days has been to terminate in the autumn of 1844.

Science of Salvation, Session 2

Father God in heaven, we thank you so much for bringing us here this evening to study your Word.

We pray that your Holy Spirit be with us as we break the bread of life.

That we may have a better understanding of the investigative judgment, the sanctuary message, and the mystery of God that we're going to study tonight.

That we can see your working and your will for each and every 1 of us.

So tonight's topic, what we're going to cover, is called the mystery of God.

Now how do you know that the judgment scene in Daniel chapter 7 has commenced?

I mean, how do we know that it is not sometime in the future that some man comes to the Ancient of Days, that the Son of Man comes to the Ancient of Days?

I mean, how do we know that it is not some time in the future that some man comes to the Ancient of Days, that the Son of Man comes to the Ancient of Days?

So what did Jesus do when He went to heaven?

What I'd like to do before we really get into the mystery of God, is I'd like for you to turn your Bibles with me to Luke chapter 19.

It's gonna be Luke chapter 19, we're gonna begin reading in verse 11.

And it says, And they heard these things he had added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem.

And because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear, what does verse 12 say?

Jesus said, no, this is not the case, because disciples thought that the kingdom of God was coming so the Bible says he said therefore okay because he wanted to help them understand the kingdom of God was not going to immediately appear Okay, but then when he said therefore what is therefore mean?

So What's it therefore all right or better a better way of putting it meaning to coming to a conclusion, or for this reason.

So when you come across the word therefore, you have to ask yourself, what is the reason this is there for?

And This is exactly what Jesus was trying to illustrate.

For this reason, he tells him another parable.

A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom.

He went to receive, went into a far country to receive a kingdom and then to return.

Keep that tuck behind your ear because we're gonna, we're gonna talk about this a little bit more.

Now you need to keep this clear in your heads because this is very important for you to understand exactly what is taking place in the Most Holy Place right now.

And whatever Jesus is doing now, he's in a far country, and before he comes back, he's gonna receive a kingdom, and then he's gonna return.

Jesus is going into a far country, He's gonna receive a kingdom and then He's gonna return.

Some language that draws on a parable, some of the language that we're gonna see here draws on the parable of Matthew 25.

Jesus says that I want your, in the parable, waist to be girded, lamps burning, and while you're waiting for your master return from the wedding.

So the Master has gone away and will return from a wedding.

So we have the fact that He is returning and receiving a kingdom.

First, and then he's going to return to the wedding.

And we know that we're talking about Jesus here.

Revelation 21 we're going to be reading in verse 9 and 10.

And talked with me saying, Come hither, I will show thee...

And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great high mountain, and showed me that great city for the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God." Who's the bride?

So the master goes away to a far country to receive a kingdom and comes back from the wedding.

We know that the Lamb is Jesus and the bride is the kingdom.

So this is a prophetic picture that is being painted here.

Jesus is not getting married to a city, but the significance of the kingdom is that in order for a king to have a kingdom, there must be subjects in it.

All right, so the idea of the marriage is that it is inclusive of making up the subjects in that kingdom.

So the idea of the marriage is that it is inclusive of making up the subjects in that kingdom.

So the idea of the marriage is that it is inclusive to making up the subjects of that kingdom.

And these things are going to help us to understand exactly what's taking place in Daniel chapter 7 when the judgment is set and the books are opened.

Alright, very, very important for us to understand.

So now we get this scene that's going on in heaven.

We're going to take a look at this scene in Daniel chapter 7.

Daniel chapter 7, we're going to be reading in verse 9.

It says, And I beheld to the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of Days did sit.

Did sit, whose garment was white as snow and the hair of his head like pure wool.

His throne was like the fiery flame and his wheels as a burning fire." Let's go on.

Verse 10, it says, "...and a fiery stream issued and came forth from before him.

Thousands and thousands ministered unto Him.

10 thousands times 10000 stood before Him.

The judgment was set and the books were opened." Let's jump over to verse 13.

It says, And I saw in the night vision and behold, 1 like the Son of Man, who is the Son of Man?

1 like the Son of Man came with the clouds of heaven.

The clouds of heaven and came to the Ancient of Days and they brought Him near before Him.

And in verse 14 it says, And there was given him dominion and glory and..." What?

And where is he receiving the kingdom, I should say?
