The Loud Cry and Christ’s Method Alone

My Bible studies entitled the loud cry and Christ's method alone.

What's The connection let's pray together Heavenly Father.

We are grateful for this time that we have together And Lord as we spend this time In your word, I pray and ask for your divine guidance that I would speak on your behalf in a way that is pleasing in your sight.

I want to pray for those that are viewing or listening that Lord, you would open their eyes, open their ears, that they would not only see and hear but I pray Lord that you would transform I pray that your Holy Spirit would be with every individual no matter where they are no matter where they're sitting no matter where they're listening no matter when they listen I pray dear God that your Holy Spirit would move with mighty power.

Dear God we want and look forward to eternity and I pray that this group who are helping others prepare for eternity, that each of us would be prepared, that we in turn might go out equipped to prepare others.

This morning as I'm presenting, I want to present to you the possibility of asking questions.

I am disappointed that I won't be able to interact with you afterwards, which would have been natural had I been able to be there at Advent Hope.

And so if you have a question, if there's something that you'd like to ask, feel free to leave a comment in the comment section.

I know there is a moderator there that is observing those comments.

It's not gonna interrupt me in my speaking.

If you want to ask something, feel free to ask that question and the moderator will be able to give that question to me and we will continue moving forward.

And so I wanna begin this morning in Matthew chapter 24 and verse 14.

It is a verse that many of us may know by heart, but Matthew chapter 24 and verse 14 is a verse that I have memorized.

It is a verse that gives a great deal of hope.

It is a verse that is actually the most Definitive time prophecy as to the timing of Jesus return now before you click off or you can float away and Drift away here.

I'm not going to predict a date of Jesus return while there are many people doing that on YouTube Right now I'm not going to be doing that, but it gives us the definitive timing of the return of Jesus in that it says in Matthew 24 14, and this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all nations and then the end will come.

Now when we look at that verse very clearly this is telling us the gospel is going to go forward and when the gospel goes to the entire earth it is at that time that the end will come, that Jesus will come.

But in reading this verse I will tell you that it is a verse that has confused me a little bit.

You, of course, know the context of Matthew chapter 24.

Matthew chapter 24 is the signs of the times.

And when you're reading Matthew chapter 24, you are receiving these signs of the times.

Now you'll remember the disciples come to Jesus and this is coming in the closing moments of Jesus' ministry and the disciples ask him, tell us when these things will be and what will be the sign of your coming and the end of the age.

And then Jesus begins this whole chapter talking about the signs of the destruction of Jerusalem in combination with the signs of the end of the age.

And you have those signs given early on in Matthew chapter 24.

Pestilence, rumors of war, troublous times will come to pass, nation rising against nation, famines in various places.

Then you have Matthew 24 14 and then Jesus returns to the signs of the times and Please understand my question.

I'm not questioning I'm not questioning inspiration when I ask this question.

I'm simply asking the question, it seems almost like this verse is out of place.

How the end will come, but then Jesus gives more signs of the times.

Why does this verse come here, right in the middle of the signs of the times?

And as I begin studying this, and this is what I want to share with you, and it's a study that for me has been going on for quite some time because I seem to find more and more information in this study that helps me understand what Jesus is trying to communicate here.

What is the context, the immediate context of this verse.

Well, verses 12 and 13 give us the immediate context of Matthew 24, 14.

And because Lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold, but he who endures to the end shall be saved.

Jesus is walking through the signs of the times and then he says there will come a time where lawlessness will abound.

Anti sometimes is translated against but is better translated in place of or without.

Jesus describes a time in this earth's history where the world will be a place that is without the law of God or there is a replacement for the law of God or that there is something coming against the law of God.

And then produced out of that lawlessness, if I can call it that, then Jesus says, and the love of many will grow cold.

That word there, love, is the Greek word agape.

Now, typically when we talk about the word agape, people will talk about agape being God's love toward humanity.

And certainly, I don't want to undermine that idea.

Yes, that is a definition of God's love toward humanity.

However, agape is used more frequently to describe the love between humanity than it is to describe God's love toward man.

Now, the word agape is defined as this love that has no expectation of return.

That when we love, we do not know or expect that someone will love us back.

And that's the undergirding of agape, that God loved us while we were yet sinners.

God knew in his divine foreknowledge that there would be many who reject his love.

And so that's the kind of love that agape is.

And Jesus says there is a time where agape love, love without expectation, will grow cold.

And the word there used in the original Greek is a very fascinating word.

It gives this word picture of a fire or flame going out or being extinguished.

In fact, in classical Greek it is this idea, And if you've ever been around a fire and stuck around for a bonfire or a campfire, where all you're left is with these glowing embers and you stay long enough, the glow of that ember will fade, fade, fade until there's no glow and then a puff of smoke rises from that.

Jesus describes a time of lawlessness that leads to a time of lovelessness.

That human love, humanity, the love of humanity, the general courtesy, kindness of humanity, the general courtesy and kindness that has no expectation of return.

The kind of love that leads you to do something for your neighbor.

You shovel their driveway, and I'm speaking to a number of people in California, so you're not doing a lot of snow shoveling.

I'm a Midwest guy, and so we do a lot of shoveling.

Maybe you help someone with something and it is a disinterested love, meaning that you don't expect anything in return.

That kind of love Jesus describes as a time where it will be extinguished.

So Jesus describes a time in this earth's history where would there would be this rise of lawlessness, the absence of God's law, things in place of God's law, things against God's law, then leading to a time where the love of humanity would just simply extinguish.

Then he says, he who endures to the end shall be saved.

God has an answer to the anti-law, anti-love.

He has an answer to the lawlessness and lovelessness of humanity.

But, interestingly enough, it doesn't say the gospel.

Now, I know it is morning there in California, but I want you to hang with me here on this grammar.

Now I need to tell you I'm not an English grammarian.

I'm much better in Greek grammar than I am in English grammar.

It could function as a demonstrative adjective or demonstrative pronoun.

I'm emphasizing this because Jesus clearly wants us to understand something.

He is making a clear distinction between anything else.

He wants us to understand in particular this gospel.

Later Paul would write in Galatians 1 that there are those that are preaching another gospel.

And then he says, it's not really a gospel.

But what's Jesus is trying to help us understand.

And when Matthew inspired by the Holy Spirit wrote this gospel out, He wrote the word this, not simply the word the.

Jesus is helping to try to help us understand that there is a particular gospel.
